I was more of an AC 1 fan, but the one thing I will give AC 2 is it had it's own atmosphere I've never encountered in any other game. The lonely world, the ambient music, it always gave me a sad kind of nostalgic feeling. Granted, you probably don't actually want your MMO to feel lonely...
a lot of AC1 players were not fans of AC2 becuz it was such a drastic departure from the original , but since i had no experience with the original , i have some big nostalgia for AC2 , the world is so unique and weird , from the races/classes , wardrums , to alchemists , to armordillos , etc its all just so different from any other generic fantasy setting , and the dungeons/raids/bosses/etc were all done well for its time imho
Yeah, you know I think Turbine was in a pretty bad spot with AC2, to be honest. They probably should have made another game first. The reason I say this is because what AC1 really needed was a graphical overhaul. I think if AC2 would have been a copy of AC1, but with better graphics, the games would just be competing with one another rather than competing with other MMOs. My assumption is that they were trying to pull over more of the EQ crowd, but I think they failed at both doing that and appeasing the AC veterans. At the end of the day they probably should have just waited till there was more demand. But I guess from their point of view they were probably worrying about losing players to new games.
Yeah, I'd say give it a shot right now - the emulator still has a lot of work to go, but they added in some backend commands like giving yourself experience and teleporting to anywhere on the map. Not really great for getting the real player experience BUT you can check out the world pretty freely.
Hey there Void! Thanks for the insight! Is there a small community of players or is it desolate? I never got beyond lvl 35 in AC2, may have to come back one day
There is a community, but they don't actively play - I would say that the game is not currently in a playable state, sadly. The community is mostly on discord, and they do a lot of playtesting and such. In its current state you can even type commands to give yourself XP, so maybe that kind of illustrates where they're currently at a little better.

Mine was working but just stopped this weekend keeps saying trying to connect to login server maybey it's busy. How do you apply patches or does it do that automatically?
Patches are done server side -- I just checked out the discord as well, and I don't see anything regarding any new patches or the server being down. If you still can't connect, maybe go through the process of reinstalling and try again?
@@Voidmoney yea stranger still get a login next play a new character level 5 but evertime I try to log into my toon mathewthomas it locks up and then won't let me login WIERD but next time I log in I'm just gonna delete him make him again.
So the way to play AC2 in present day is to use the same method that people used to get the real good stuff back when the game was new. I don't think that process needs to be polished at all.

Might have to give this a shot one day. Never got to try AC2 back in the day. Played a tonnn of AC1 though.

I would say give it more time - maybe explore a bit just for the heck of it. But it still needs a lot of work.
