in my personal opinion, this is one of - if not the best game ever made, especially for the fact its only made by two developers
Small team games hold a special place in my heart; more so when it's under 5 people.

Finnish indie games are the best
I'm Finnish and I always love hearing people talk about My Summer Car, since it's the only game that shows a well parodied version of Finland. Also, everything in the game, from the small town (since I lived in one in the early 2000s), to the products for sale, to even the car culture and obviously the swearing is relatable in a way that no other game gets. Although real Finland is nowhere as cool as the one in MSC.
I clicked on this video thinking it was a typical "watch me be Finn and get drunk and die constantly while calling Finnish people drunks or, what's worse, swedes), This video was really well made. Humoristic, but still to point. I was surprised of the quality of the video and overall the well written narration, as well as the comedic uses of the swearing function in clips.
I've been playing it again (been playing it since early days) on permadeath and on both times, I've built the car and been getting the last GT parts (like the RPM gauge) and died randomly, either getting stuck in a Hayosiko and dying because the game thinks you are moving at 100kmh when in reality you are just spinning the tires, or driving a moped, falling over at a slow speed, getting up and randomly dying out of nowhere.
Also I feel bad that the people not Finnish don't get the beautiful puns of the game, like Hayosiko. In Finnish, Hajosiko is a way to ask if something broke in verbal communication. Like "Hajosiko autosi" would be "did your car break down" (or the 90s joke "Hajosiko Toyotasi" meaning "did your toyota break down", but making it sound like a Japanese name). It's basically just puns and jokes all around. I think everyone gets Kekmet (mix of Valmet, a Finnish vehicle and other stuff manufacturer, and KEK) as well as GIFU (Uses SISU truck looks, and has a name of a Finnish candy of the same name.)

My Summer Car, unironically, inspired my entire career path. I knew borderline nothing about how a car worked when i first started playing. (I admit i eventually relented to an online tutorial to assemble the car the first time around).
When I got her running, started tuning, and upgrading, something inside me clicked. I learned my love for cars thanks to My Summer Car.
Fun. What both real life and the game share is: Yelling curse words at your car can fix it. At least I tell myself it works.
My first time playing this game, I hopped on the moped and drove towards the town for some beer. The thing about the moped is that if you're too slow, it just turns off, so I was stopped on the road, when all of a sudden, the dude in that green car came screaming down the road in my direction, and it took me three tries to ignite the moped to get the hell out of his way, and I did so... Only just barely.
Anyway, I bought the beer, drank too much, and passed out in the middle of a field.

@@patrickrbx7825and a life saver too when your car gets stuck in a ditch at 2am in pitch black darkness and then i try get the car unstuck with a box of beers and then it glitches through the map, all hope is lost until pena passes by (i was about to did from hunger)
My summer car is the game that got 13 year old me really into cars. Tought me so much and made me buy my own my summer car at 14. Still love the game and have way too many hours on it
Me who knows basically close to nothing about cars but i love mechanics and how things go together so imma be getting this to finally understand gearheads
My summer car is so nostalgic for me. I’ve played it since around the time it came out. Watching it come as far as it has is just mesmerizing. Hearing the songs it plays, cruising in the van down the roads, listening to Teimo run on about whatever is on his mind at the shop, and that sound when you first hear the car crank up after working for hours on it, brings back so many memories and emotions I’ve had with the game over the years. Yes I still play it, and I still love it. Every few months or so I’ll start over again and do it all again to get that same feeling again. I cannot wait for MWC, I’m very interested to see how it turns out.

I built my car, drove it into town, filled it up and then got it checked and passed registration. Driving home with license plates was one of the best gaming moments and feelings of accomplishment I’ve had in a long time.
The Datsun from the movie you said the Satsuma may have been inspired of has the exact same registrationplate as in the game. So... yeah, I think it´s accuret. Great video btw. :)

This game is THE most realistic car culture simulator that no other game has come close to. Just like in real life its not about the car, its about the struggle the failure and the lessons that building and maintaining and enjoying the car bring. Forza and need for speed could never.
It's as close to real life as I think I'd want. Having to set the gear ratio yourself would be such pain.

the Datsun 100A in Finland is like the VW Golf 4 in Hungary. It's junk yet everyone still wants one
there is a subculture on youtube where they tune suzuki pv 50cc (jonez es) the numbers they make them push are pretty impressive I seen one claiming to make 18hp keeping the original block from the engine too

as a person who played msc for the first time with 0 car knowledge, it was actually somewhat of an infuriating but learning experience
also another reason your car jumps to such [bounce wise] is because you need to tune the 2 nobs on the rally suspension stiffer is better but not too stiff i myself have forgotten the tune but it makes rally racing so smooth and easy

im tempted to buy the game just to see if I can maintain the car with a "how cars work" book. My guess is that some pedestrian will give my hood and bumper a fresh dark red paint job while reading about the cooling and wondering if piss will actualy be a good substitute

Lmao I barely know about how engines are put together, but I understand partly how they work. After a while, I figured everything out. The game is great but life draining haha, I've learned how to enjoy the long parts of the game, like having to take apart the engine because a piston blew or such. I've spent weeks getting the parts for the satsuma to work, after putting it together first the head gasket blew and I got two flat tires. Eventually though, I got all of the new parts and tires. I'm going to the rally soon.
Cool game, spent hours trying assembling engine, bit glitchy, it's early acesss I know.
Hope Devs don't abandon this project!

use steering help you can turn it on in the settings menu

If you drive the moped without a helmet or a car with no windshield a bug can fly into your eye and blind you also.

and take note, even if you're building the satsuma again from scratch with 100+ hours on record, you are BOUND to make mistakes or miss a part. I was test driving the car one time and a shock absorber fell off. Simply because it wasn't fully screwed in. My Summer Car is NOT for the weak. It's not noob friendly either.
100% true. I was once playing when I was sleepy and forgot to bolt the door down. When I went to open it the door fell off like that scene in Tommy Boy.

@@DopaminedotSeek3rcolonthree It actually wasn't his fault. Some idiot ran a stop-sign and hit the front of the car causing the Datsun to spin out into oncoming traffic where another car hit it.
My dad probably would've been dead or at least seriously injured if he hadn't been wearing a seatbelt although the seat he was in broke and he was on his back as the car was spinning out.
