Coming from a 76 Series cruiser to the same N80 as Ronnys. The Hilux wins it for me. More comfort, better economy, similar capability. It's worth noting that to get a 70 series cruiser to be as comfortable and capable as the Hilux costs a ridiculous amount of money. ( I know from experience ) Tune, clutch upgrade, exhaust, new seats, sound deadening, wheel track correction, head unit upgrade, speaker upgrade, steering wheel upgrade are just some of the things to consider if you wanted your 79 likes Torbs. Big big $$$$$
OMG...that is a super entertaining video...l like how the challenges were made in a funny way...you nailed it guys...well done and special thanks to the camera man
Hilux for the win for me. Does the same job as Landcruiser basically with more comfort and burns less fuel. With the locker coming and the air pressure unit in the tub, it's close to perfection.
Fantastic plastic shopping cart ::: lolllllllllll not fair ; still this REVO is a beauty. Great video; nicely complied ; useful information with loads of fun
Awesome challenge/not challenge :) I do think it´s hard to beat the looks of the 79, and it sure has more power. However, i think power is not very often what you need offroad, and solid axles sure feels old in a car these days. Hard decision to make. I have to decide based on the beach obstacle course. Even though Ronny won that technically, I think hitting all those markers are a bad thing - maybe the mirrors in the Lux are facing forward or something ;). The 79 wins by a hair in my book. That said, both are obviously quite capable vehicles, and so are the drivers - and it looked like you had a fun time, so maybe all of us won, ´cause it was sure fun to watch!
Well from every angle the Camera man must win. He had to run along all those challenges and he never missed a beat. Well done on the challenges. Torb's got the thumbs.
Great video guys!! Great sense of humor and most entertaining...put a smile on my dial...own both and love both...but when it really gets tough..it will be the LC. Hilux is a good daily runner and most versatile. Greetings from South Africa..toyota country as well.
I’m like you Ronny in the sense I have both a Hilux and 79. Every time I get the keys it is to the 79. The wife now drives the Hilux. So I will have to give the win to Torbs. Great video guys.
I know which ute I’d pick of the too .... 😬😉👍 It’s funny how people obsess over getting their roof top tents dead level - when I’m tired, I’d sleep on a barbed wire fence ! 🤣🤣 Another threat clip Ronny, thoroughly enjoyable mate and great to see the two different perspectives of vehicles / camp setups.
In all honesty I would choose the Hilux. I would never be in a position to keep 2 cars running so therefore I would need something that I’m happy with as my daily drive. Although the cruiser would be cool I think that the Hilux would be better to drive in the city
Great episode. I think it comes down to personal preference. Pluses and minuses on both. As far as the Windmill photo. Yea, Ronnie your screwed. Looks like there was a lot a good fun making that one.
79 wins every day of the week, this is like comparing a delica to a unimog. A good test to do is for both vehicles to hook up to each other and pull the back one up a hefty off road hill.
Great video! The most you can compare are the Toyota logos on your grilles. Two completely different vehicles modified to serve the same purpose. I have a Tacoma ( Canada ) but If I had the option, I'd take 79 on the spot. Either way, both are great.
Haha, paused it at 1.20, I'm gonna love this. I live in Victoria and I can tell you straight out from the start, that hilux will easily out drive that 79 on Victorian tracks. No contest (I know from actual experience). Something tells me this might not be about off road ability though... time to watch! Edit, haha, Torbs was better, I wouldn't let Ronny reverse a shopping trolly
@@jimmyrecard6021 Most of the 4x4 tracks in Vic are steep, shaley , rutted and off camber. The hilux is lighter, has a lower centre of gravity, better front clearance and no rear springs below the back axle. Climbing is a no contest
2.8L hairdryer 🤣 since I came from a full independent AWD and ended us choosing to buy a Fortuner I respect how good A-Track can actually be and the comforts of IFS so I like hilux but it's not because of a points basis, it is mainly because of technology and what I prefer. If it was like 80 series vs 90 series I'd pick 80 series for full live axle over half half because 90 has missing tech that balances everything out for an weekend enthusiast off roader vehicle. 👌🇦🇺👍 Funny video.
As someone who has broken solid axles off road and never been let down by IFS (yet), I still don't buy the argument. Sure individual components of the IFS are lighter than a solid axle but the assembly together in the triangular load bearing patterns (like the Eiffel tower) are strong enough to take a proper beating. I know many of you will say "I broke IFS off road..." etc and that's fine. Just giving my 2 cents of experience. (Edit: Radius arm and a tie bar broke on Defender if anyone asks).
How smart is Torbs getting someone else to cut and carry the firewood? Both great 4x's but for me, 70 series all the way! Sorry Ronny. That was well done, the funniest you made so far.
I think ultimately, weekend warriors. N80 everyday of the week. Going for the big trips, nothing can compare to a 79 series. But it does come down to choice. I have a N80 and I think they are an amazing ute and a great step up from the n70 just lack that great diesel sound.
Little Bear😁 The electronic wizardry in the Lux is just not bush proof in Africa where I live. You can break down any place in a Cruiser and be able to find parts, the new Lux not so much.
Both reasonable vehicles. I question the comments on strength and reliability concerning the IFS Hilux. I work at a mine site, and while we do use cruisers, they are NOT long life (reliable). CV's, ball joints, broken leaf springs, sagging springs all round, knocking holes in the sump from the front diff hitting it, etc. Yes, they were better overall (slightly) than a Ranger, but did we set ourselves up to fail with the mine site vehicle set ups with the Rangers? I suspect we did. Are there issues with the strength and durability of the independent front ends on the Hiluxes? I haven't heard of any.
Gosh, as far as a vote either way...I have to admit Little Bear is heavier then I'd like/enjoy for an off-road rig but at the same time talk about a wicked power plant. Also everyone here in the states wishes we could get 79 Series, they are truly iconic. The turning radius however, and size of Little Bear, makes me learn more towards the Hilux. And idk if thats mostly because of what I'm use to (tight and narrow roads) but it would be much harder to maneuver said larger vehicle around where I live.
Great vid boys... Always look forward to Sunday's video. Just a comment on the fuel consumption. I have a 79 which I've owned since new, its about 18 months old. For the most part its a work vehicle loaded with tools, weighs in at 3150kg's. I would generally get around 10l/100 sometimes better if I'm only driving around town. It does have a custom tune which obviously makes a big difference. When I tow my van which is about 2600kgs I would usually get about 17l/100 unless I'm doing plenty of hill climbs. Seems like a massive difference in the figures you guys are talking about here... On the winner, pretty biased opinion here but you can't go past a cruiser! The best decision I've made when I got mine. :-)
The Classic 79 has my vote, can't beat leaf springs for all around off road ability! Though I'd put my 1.3L 87 Samurai up against both of them! Why you ask, because it's mine!! LOL
@@perpelle You're absolutely RIGHT! Though it's quite obvious, I should have mentioned it! Same difference between a Tracker and Samurai! Obvious, but not!
They both definitely have a place, the 79 is in front, but just because of the strength of that solid front axle, I’ve always loved the sound of a V8, but.. technology on these new motors and the fuel consumption, the 2.8 is a weapon, should of done a drag race with the 79 on its lowest tune, just to bring it back online with standard.. but.. winning with a Toyota badge is still winning
That prado is the winner…lol but in reality in off road situations solid axle flex beat afs, real lockers ready when you flip the switch beat any other electronics which need mostly certain speed to engage while air lockers are on demand when you need them.
Both awesome vehicles but I gotta give Torb’s the win on this one.
Hands down best over all (and best looking) Landcruiser... Way to go Torbs.
@Harper Amelia 🤣🤣🤣

79. That’s why your channel’s so successful
Both are great 4WDs but for off-road ability Torb's wins hands down , and i like his new roof top tent :-)

That was alot of fun Mr Dahl and Sir Torben. 79 Landcruiser hands down with the Prado a distant second! The cameraman is a funny Dude.
Feel your pain as Australia's 70 series Land Cruiser only comes with a old 5 speed manual so no option for Auto
They're comfortable after you've spent $50k!...Lol...
Love the Luxy!
LandCruiser = Batman
Hilux = Superman
Nice little luxie Ron, but that ol' 79 with a big burly V8 wins the day.

Both the 79 series and Hilux are good vehicles, just different classes……. But the79 series wins me.

IFS is strong enough if you don’t go overboard on tyres and lift. But nothing cops abuse quite like a good solid axle setup
