Cleanup animation on paper at 8:59.
After the rough animation's done, animators scan the drawings into the computer & cleanup digitally using 2D animation softwares like Toon Boom Harmony with a graphics tablet before inking, coloring & compositing in the final shot (that's in my opinion).

Today, 2D traditional animation is drawn on computer tablets with digital pens as Tradigital animation. That means we no longer want to use paper or scanners for this medium. I hope the US will make 2d animated features again by using computer tablets with digital pens. Not only that. Most 2d animated features can be converted in 3d for 3d formats including Real D 3D and IMAX 3D.
