Why does the media always have to go to town on people that don't practice "traditional" heterosexual relationships?! The interviewer kept going on and on about her gender re-assignment. Interview the person and focus on their accomplishments, not their personal life! We humans certainly have a long way to go for acceptance. I'd bet that if the interviewer should in the future need an artificial organ that Martine invented that gives him 10-30 more years of life, he will be eternally grateful and looking back to will feel shameful about his focus on her gender.
Martine and Bina are amazing! What a creepy & incompetent interviewer though. He couldn't even get Martine's pronouns right after a whole conversation about her being a woman. And the way he phrased the questions about her transition was so gross and unnecessary, not to mention barely relevant to what the interview was about.
Ya..the interviewer kept going on and on about her gender re-assignment. Why do we need to acknowledge our genders so much to accomplishments. I don't care if she is a gorilla, look what she has accomplished!! She has done so many things that others deemed impossible. She is a true inspiration to any business person or human. I'd bet that if the interviewer should in the future need a artificial organ transplant that gives him 10-30 more years of life, he will be eternally grateful.
The correct pronouns are "he " and "him." Rothblatt is a good example of why we need to raise taxes to 1950s levels. What HE proposes is outright evil.
Protip: a robot you've designed to look like a specific human, and programmed to mimic said person's actions, is not actually that person, and you haven't "downloaded their consciousness". No matter how perfect the imitation is, it's still an imitation. If a stick insect looks convincingly enough like a stick, does that make it a stick?
***** Making a copy of someone is not proper immortality though. It's really no better than having a child and having them live on after you die. Proper immortality can only be achieved through improvements in genetics and medicine to stop cellular aging, or through direct replacement of organic tissue with synthetic tissue that performs the identical function without breaking down.
JustOneAsbesto If the stick insect is made of wood, and it sounds like wood when you tap it, and it burns exactly like wood, and it smells like wood and its insides are made of wood and.. (you get the idea), then yes it's a stick.
***** Depends on which definition of "immortal" you are using. I think "Invincible" is most commonly used to describe something that cannot be destroyed. "Immortal" simply means that there is no limit on how long it can live, given ideal circumstances (i.e. not getting hit by a car). Making something that cannot be killed with the application of force is effectively impossible, so it makes no sense to even talk about it in this context, thus the "not aging" definition of immortal.
Can’t really let go of the idea of my mind being digitally preserved and therefore there being a computer out there with dyslexia, adhd and autism. Like how would it mimic my memory problems. Would it lock away memory data with very silly keycodes? “This memory only unlocks when you put wasabi on strawberries.”
Martine Rothblatt is as legendary as she is weird. Terasem reminds me of the Epsilon Program (kifflom!) but it seems harmless. And she's saving lives with her biotech work, so good for her.
The relentless determination of this person is fascinating. I could use that in my life, I don't have that. Truly, a lesson to learn, and an inspiration.
Such a phenomenal spirit and energy of life and light in Martine. Energy and Vibration has no gender. More are eventually waking up to the All-oneness there is. We are neither All-one or Alone. Thanks for sharing this. Love the Bina48 project. Martine and Bina are the ultimate examples of "All-oneness" in their personal lives and externally. There is great love for you. Thank you for what you two are doing. BP
I'm pretty sure that she is ok with being called He in a past tense before her transition. The intervier does refer to her with she/her pronouns in the present tense. She still calls herself the father of her kids.
If I could pour my consciousness into a computer and live forever I would in a flash. No hesitation. This woman is ridiculously amazing and my new inspiration.
According to what was said, YOUR consciousness is not actually living forever. Your mind and personality are basically getting programmed onto a computer.

as a trans woman pursuing a career in biomedical engineering, this is so so so inspiring, it really makes me feel like I can accomplish anything, because *she* can accomplish anything
To the commenters below, yeah university is about maintaining status quo. If you can read you can learn anything and change or advancement in any field rarely comes from those in the middle but those who can see the forest from the fringe.
Hmmmm I remember her. The Terasem staff blacklisted me, remarkable. I worked for her a while... She was a great inspiration to me nonetheless, and I changed in to Khannea. She gave me the courage. Be warned though. Martine has a side to her sharp and hard as glass shards. I interacted with Genesis quite a lot, she is amazingly lovely.
One thing that truly baffles me is why people want to be immortal(whether physical or artificial). The idea of living on forever seems terrifying to me. Living on forever, seeing everything that goes on seems to me like it would be boring. But what actually terrifies me is the idea that if everyone is immortal then there would be no more need for children and without children news ideas would slow down because it is the unique experience of that child that can bring forth a paradigm altering idea. Then there is also the idea that old dogs can't learn new tricks; the small problems our ancestors fought over are not as big as the small problems we have today that are big. You need a new crowd to have old problems go away.
defenderfortheEld You only think living forever is boring because your life is boring. Imagine the amount of knowledge you could achieve in a life time, now imagine forever.. knowing every language, reading every book.. becoming professional at any sport.. but your life is boring so you would never understand.
I would find it boring because there is only so much one can do, even forever. Yes you can become a professional in every sport but then what? Also unless we actually make our brains digital(which at that point I do not believe a person is still a person) there is a saturation point that the brain can hold(while yes huge, still finite)[www.scientificamerican.com/article/what-is-the-memory-capacity/]. When that is reached then you have to start forgetting, even if you can actually remember all of that information because it is common knowledge that information that isn't used is pushed back into the brain. So unless you practice every language and use all of those skills repeatedly you will eventually use them. So you could "learn" every language and every skill but to master them takes devotion that even in forever you can't master them. While you have a valid idea, don't insult someone who is just trying to share theirs.
defenderfortheEld 1)I'd love to be physically immortal, or at least long enough to decide when I biologically die (outside of accidents happening). It doesn't scare me at all, but I'm still just 25 so that mentality could change. 2)We'll put it less as 'children' and more as 'creations', to be given just as much or more care, and as far as you or I know, people will always want to create. 3)'Old dog can't learn new tricks' IS BECAUSE OF OUR AGING BRAINS. We LITERALLY can't learn as fast and well because our BRAINS are degrading. The stubborness of the old IS a brain condition. Regenerate the brain, and we regenerate 'eternal' youth and the freedom that offers.
Pretty much every religion claims to promise immortality, but with no evidence. If you enjoy life why would you want it to stop. But i you ever feel you no longer want to exist because you feel you've done everything snd life bores you, then you could opt for euthanasia.
@@Dalekscientist Punctul principal este că această creatură încearcă să promoveze ( agresiv și grețos) o agendă transhumană pe care orice ființă posesoare și de suflet nu doar de carcasă , o respinge în mod absolut și instinctiv !
If a machine looks human and converses with you as if it were human to the point that you can't tell from the outside that it's not human, is the machine actually experiencing anything? What is consciousness? Consciousness is the most salient aspect of a person's life, but do we really understand what it is? At what point, if ever, can we ascribe life or consciousness to a machine? The talk here chose to bypass these questions and the problem of consciousness, seemingly on the *_assumption_* that if an imitation is good enough, then it has the same reality-the same experiential reality?-as the person imitated. It's still a fascinating talk, but, perhaps of necessity, it leaves out a lot that's crucial to such undertakings and their goals.
alwaysuseless Most of the time for a long time, it won't be 'experiencing' anything as we define it. AI developments will just be giving technology the tools to express itself once it CAN 'experience' things. There's still developments that futurists think may happen in the 2030-2050s, not 2020s-2030s. The creation of synthetic yet still organic 'human-ish' beings is one potential that would make us question all we think about 'consciousness'.
Malcolm Swoboda If these technical, synthetic, &/or organic creations proceed to live their own independent lives, contribute to society, write autobiographies, etc., then it will be hard or impossible to deny they have experiential consciousness, but will we be any closer to understanding what consciousness is or how it arises?
My son and I were just randomly talking about genetics and he told me about this and then sent it to me. My God. What a gift to our world Martine is! Thank you!

Thats a male human being and thats a fact you cant argue. Stay asleep or realise how all this has been already warned off. Everything will be sold to you under the guise of love, unity, tolerance and progress...just to destroy you in the end..but you will cheer.
Should look into the usage of algorithms like machine learning and deep learning, as well as focused efforts on emulating the networks of neurons within the brain (it would cost lots of computing power and require really good data analysis, but Martine has a large budget) alongside just storing data to imitate the person.
Everything well and dandy until they got on to living 'forever'. Can we please put a rain check on this type of insanity. We've been alive what? Maximum of 150 years for a human which is how much of infinity? 0% correct! So can we please revise living forever to just living longer to make the statement you will always be in love is like trying to predict something trillions of years in the future which is as complicated and ever changing human love isn't like celestial planets. It changes fast even within our own life times. Live longer, not forever.
The immortality within a mind file. I don't understand. She wants to live on for hundreds of years through a mind file, but how will that work? in its essence a mind file is an exact replica of you and not you yourself. It gives the illusion that it's one person but it's an entirely different person with stark similarities with a living being. A mind file might be able to absorb their human's data immediately upon each experience but the same can't be said from a mind file to a human mind.
they're creating a clone, not an extension of themselves. It's like creating a twin sister to live on under your name but it isn't actually you. I'm curious to know if this mind file will also progress and change as a human brain when they encounter trials, or if it will be linear in its existing personality

This is how any family would care for their children, no matter what the dynamics, it still a loving family.

No boundaries? How about 4 men in one relationship? Or one woman and a horse? Or a child with a grown man? God made boundaries and laws for a reason.

Which ones, the ones pointing out that he is a man? Why is the truth heartbreaking?
Why does the media always have to go to town on people that don't practice "traditional" heterosexual relationships?! The interviewer kept going on and on about her gender re-assignment. Interview the person and focus on their accomplishments, not their personal life! We humans certainly have a long way to go for acceptance.
I don't care if she is a gorilla, look what she has accomplished!! She has done a dozen things that others deemed impossible. She is a true inspiration to any business person or human. I'd bet that if the interviewer should in the future need an artificial organ that Martine invented that gives him 10-30 more years of life, he will be eternally grateful and looking back to will feel shameful about his focus on her gender.
Because its fucking weird. Quit being delusional.

*****
It matters insofar as people think they can download their consciousness after they die.
They're still dead.
JustOneAsbesto Yeah well if you can't have invincibility, having unlimited continues is the next best thing.

Literally a comic book villain.

Malcolm Swoboda If these technical, synthetic, &/or organic creations proceed to live their own independent lives, contribute to society, write autobiographies, etc., then it will be hard or impossible to deny they have experiential consciousness, but will we be any closer to understanding what consciousness is or how it arises?
alwaysuseless Actually, maybe. Let's see.
Malcolm Swoboda Ah, definitely maybe! ;-)

Such a great life story. Telling of the power of the mind to overcome all borders and barriers.
Should look into the usage of algorithms like machine learning and deep learning, as well as focused efforts on emulating the networks of neurons within the brain (it would cost lots of computing power and require really good data analysis, but Martine has a large budget) alongside just storing data to imitate the person.
I had a total Ghost in the Shell moment watching this.
The end is a real-life Black Mirror, Episode: San Junipero. Bina even looks like the old woman at the end of San Junipero.
I'm curious to know if this mind file will also progress and change as a human brain when they encounter trials, or if it will be linear in its existing personality
we don’t know a lot about human conscious, if you copy someone’s brain they might both be the same person until they experience different things.
