- Axalp delivered again! We had some surprise visitors from the Italian air force in their fifth generation F35 Lightnings. They dropped into the humid air in the mountain and showed us how they Vape.
I’ve also included the high speed pass from the Swiss Air Force f18 demonstration with schlieren effect. The memory of 1:59 in the video is something I will treasure.

OMG that F18 did something you dont see everyday except in movies.......crank a hard right at about 400 knots and go vertical up the face of a jagged mountain peak....just about choked on my coffee when I saw that.....outstanding pilots and machines. Great video work.....
Yea for a second there I thought he miscalculated!
The guy who shouts out “Wo ho ho” at the end is how I feel about all Dafydd’s videos! Great action shots as usual! 😊
Thank you, appreciated.
What an amazing place to put an airshow!
Захватывающее зрелище! Прекрасные машины и горы сказочной красоты! Thank you!!
Thank you.
F 18 flying up the mountain face was really Bad Azz , that's right out of Hollywood TopGun stuff .
The still at 2:02 is phenomenal.
Thank you.
Wow! The sound in those mountains must be insane!
It is ✈️✈️👌
1:12 Well, that started out with about 15 seconds of normal fly-by, but quickly turned into about 15 seconds of 'holy crap, look at that!!' 😲
Woah. The footage, the scenery, the aircraft, the vapour cones and vortices! Thank you for this
Thanks for viewing Andrew 👍
Oh maaaaaaan, that final still shot!!! 😳🤯
Absolutely smashing transonic wall shots there. Beautiful work! :D
Thanks Matt.
It's great that you take a share these videos with those of us that can't physically make it to remote areas. Thanks DP
Thank you and happy to share my experiences with everyone 👍
Absolutely stunning Dafydd, top draw mate the spluff coming off the planes and those con trails👌superb. Not to mention the tack sharp pictures👌👌👍✈
ATB Andy
Thanks as always andy.
Your first 2 still photos are straight up awesome captures......the vapor formations and the full-tilt-boogie of those after burners bring those pics alive!!✌👍
Thank you.
Aren't the cones of the exhaust unreal?
0:49 strange vapour formation. Good capture
Absolutely Stunning, thank you for sharing footage of this spanking cool aircraft.
Thanks for watching.
Tremendous debut of the cool F-35A with amazing vapor condensation 🤩😎
OMG! That is amazing footage and those still shots of the F35 are awesome! Why do I love all things aviation? This video sums it up! 👍👍
Thanks Richard. Think I’ve got the aviation bug also ✈️✈️✈️😎👍
Awesome to see the F35s like this. Thanks for the upload ♥ Greetings from Norway.
Thank you. Appreciated 👍
Always a first class show!.
If I had been there I am not sure I would have believed my eyes. But your video and stills capture it. I have never noticed the "barrelling" of an afterburner plume between the shock waves before. The still of the schlieren effect (had to look that up!) is indeed something to treasure. Many thanks.
Thanks nick, it’s a magical place ✈️🇨🇭👌
I’m not American, but those Americans sure know how to build a fighter jet. Beautiful, just plain beautiful F-35 design…
I look forward to your Axalp videos. Thank you.
Thanks Marty.
1:32 reminded me of a movie i saw recently :)
I can only imagine the next-level loudness of the F-35 bouncing off the Alps. May cause an avalanche this Winter!
Especially when they get upgraded engines!
Wow ! Can't beat that !
Thanks joe.
Magnifique! Welcome to Switzerland!
Thank you. It’s a beautiful country 🇨🇭
The bending of the light waves is astounding. As much as I love the F-18, I'm starting to warm up about the Lightning.
Spectacular video and stills Mr. Phillips. Always watch your videos more than a few times each.
Thank you!! Much appreciated 👍
Superb photos!!! can't wait your next shots!!!

Thanks Stuart.
Aaaawwweeesome! We had a great time up there.
Stunning great Job 🔥🔥
Thanks Martin.
All your footage is the top of the class in magnificence. Unbelievable captures of compressions of vapor and the awesomeness of the machines. Was this the first sunny day in a while so all the people came out to take pictures?😃 What a crowd....what a show! Thanks again
Thanks Scott. It was probably a little too sunny as we are shooting directly into the sun in places. Stunning location all the same and well organised by the Swiss 🇨🇭👌✈️
Axalp is a show event held once a year where the Swiss air force shows off their gear (and in this case a hopeful supplier...)
Nicely done dafydd.scenery looks gorgeous there
Thanks Andy.
Amazing shots.
Thanks Andy.
BEAUTIFUL!
Unbelievable balls of steel….
MINDBLOWING!!!!
Despite the Swiss of the past, that is some badass flying!! DP, your work stands alone
Thank you Tanya.

Wow, video of it already up.
Stunning stills.
Was my first time on the Axalp.
Hell of a walk.
For me at least who has never wandered before.
Hope you enjoyed it? The walk is a challenge but we’ll worth it.
Thanks for viewing my channel 👍✈️✈️✈️✈️
Beautiful Mach diamonds.
Very cool, nice shot!
Awesome footage as always Dafydd, the stills shots spectacular. Should have got up earlier though to get on the front row😁
Thanks Charles. Front row sadly is a lot lower down. We got up the hill
Pretty early but as people turned up the views filled in.
Thank you Sir for sharing!
A pleasure, appreciate you watching.
Great video thanks
Thank you.
Fantastic video 😃👍👍
Thanks Andy.
Fantastic buddy 👌💪
Thank you. Catch up soon ✈️✈️✈️✈️👍
Nice video ... Airshow & training mission all in one! I really liked that aircraft that went up the side of the mountain. Did it turn to go over the top or straight up?
Thanks bill, this one came back down and gave another low pass. When they live fire they overbank over the top. I’ll post another vid of that in the next few days.
Thanks!
Thank you.
✈️✈️✈️ Amazing
The "elite" I love it 🤙
Amazing video! Was the F-18 at 1:45 on the verge of Mach 1.0? Or why was it getting quieter and the plane leading the wavefront?
Thank you. I believe the speed was approx 730mph (Mach .95)
AWESOME!!!!!!!!
Thank you.
Gee - what took so long 😉😂 - EPIC FOOTAGE !!! 🙌
Axalp was today and tomorrow…gladly the weather is just perfect! 😉
Thanks to Dafydd to edit it so beautifully!

Well done DP...could you describe the steps taken to attend event, lodging, transport, crowds...I may join you next year! Vermont USA
Thank you. It’s worth the effort ✈️✈️🇨🇭👍
My god, what an idiot I am, I thought this was the mach loop for half the video, was about to start crying as it was too busy!
Great footage and amazing photos... and that sound... woooooooow
Thanks Ben. For three days of the year it has a similar air to the loop✈️✈️
Sweet!

Thank you so much for sending me the details I certainly will do. But seriously you are absolutely amazing please don't stop what you're doing, because you are 100% the top guy. But you must take care keep safe & time out for yourself too.
🤩🤩🤩
I remember when I first saw it I thought, wow, how ugly!! but now, after I actually saw it, I have to admit, he looks very impressive!
Outstanding!!!
Thank you.
Technical question, are you are recording video with an DSLR or mirror less camera and then doing a frame grab in post?
@@HV71851 I mount a video camera on top of my dslr Lens and capture whatever I’m pointing at. I also use various other cameras on tripods etc to capture extra clips from different angles as well as clearer audio.
@@DafyddPhillips You have a wonderful production going. Keep up the great work!
Hi Sir, are you planning on uploading pictures in high res online? May I have a link?
Thank you in advance
❤️❤️❤️ wow
Awesome
Thanks Stephen.
More great shots! I imagine the Air Force would like to post these, as would Lockheed. Since the F-35 emphasizes multi-mission capability and has internal weapons storage for stealth, its wing loading is higher than fighters like the F-18. So, the F-35 can't be 'flicked' into a turn as abruptly as shown at 1:23 Hopefully most spectators appreciate that what it sacrifices in aerobatics is more than offset by other capabilities. Still, I hope that next year they'll also have an F-35 climbing close to the contours of a huge, and very steep mountain.
Thanks Gregory. It’s a great plane despite what the critiques say
@Phillip Banes Thanks for providing that perspective. I remember that a similar description about the fuselage providing lift was attributed to the F-15's ability to fly with just one wing (an accident which occurred during an Israeli training exercise in the 1970's). Also for aircraft like the F-18, there is a section of the fuselage running in front of the wing, advancing all the way forward towards the cockpit that look like mini wings which aid lift (I forget what these are called)
I once saw stats which showed the F-35 ran high wing loads per square foot. But the fuel load was not specified.
@Phillip Banes Thanks for identifying 'Strakes'. And, thanks for your service.
Vapour! 😎
what camera and lens was used for this ?
Canon 1dx2 with 300mm f2.8 lens plus 1.4 converter. Thanks for watching.
I'm new to your channel. This is just my opinion, but I would rather look at your photos than look at the Mona Lisa.
Thanks Bobbie, appreciated 😁👍
The irony that this is posted the same day a USAF pilot had to dump one at Hill AFB.
I prefer watching the low-level stuff. 😉
This is kind of low at 7,500 feet 🤠👍
Swiss F5s 🇨🇭 and F35s
Wow your're photographs are JUST SO COOL /////////////////////////////////////////// JOHN NZ /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Thank John. Appreciated. 😎👍
