- Music Stages is an ambitious production company run by musicians of the Concertgebouworkest (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra) in Amsterdam.
In a series of podcasts its artistic director Michael Gieler talks to some outstanding personalities of the music world.
In this episode Michael Gieler talks to the young recorder player Lucie Horsch. Lucie is an extraordinary young woman, full of wisdom: "The audience plays an important part in a performance".
In spite of her young age (21 yo) she has already been awarded the Dutch National Music Prize. She is signature artist for Decca and has performed as a soloist all over the world with renowned ensembles and orchestras.
Possibly her biggest achievement: she has been acknowledged by the Australian comical duo Twoset Violin, which brought her world fame on youtube ;-).
Quotes from the conversation:
Performing: "Playing concerts is all about the moment: you have to surrender to what is happening."
Covid-19: "I have been working on my mental state to accept the uncertainty".

Erst Heute gesehen! Wunderbares Gespraech. Danke!
Sou apaixonado por você , Lucie...
When I accidentally launched a video on You Tube featuring Lucie Brahms ’5th Hungarian dance, I listened to it several times
one after another, it was so beautiful. I saw Her at this time first, but then I tried to look for Her everywhere, and as a performer of a lot of music I found it. I am interested in everything that happens to Her, and this is also true of the issue of his privacy in this conversation.
In Her play, the emotions show up beautifully, especially when I listen to a video, almost every night since. I wish Her many more successes.
Thank you Zoltán. Lucie is very special indeed.
Thanks for taking time to share your thoughts Lucie.
I am a physician and have recently become more interested in playing music in my small amount of free time these days. I play piano at intermediate to advanced level. Your music has inspired me to learn to play baroque recorder. I have learned fingering on soprano recorder and just working on better control of notes. I think you are very natural at RUclips and I would love to hear more about how you approach well known pieces of recorder music. Also I would like to learn more about how you structure your practice time for the recorder.
I look forward to hearing more of your performances and hearing more from you on RUclips.
Great interview! Yes, recorder can be mainly a solo instrument but I hope Lucie will someday perform Vivaldi’s chamber concertos with recorder 😊
We will pass your request on to Lucy. Cheers!
@@musicstages6032 gracias ☺️ 🙏
Great insight into the life of musicians in times of lockdown! I hope the RUclips algorithm spreads this video to some more people! :)
Indeed the extra time is very useful to invest into the whole online presence, which I believe can be an important part of your career also if you're following the more conventional path of being a musician [Fun fact: I actually first heard about Lucie from the TwoSet video].
It is not a replacement, obviously, and I can't wait until live music becomes possible again the way it has been before, but at least it is a platform that helps us stay creative in the meantime.
Thank you for your kind response. We are optimistic that live music will happen again soon.
I think as a musician that when teleporting is not just in device s and computer s and you can teleport to other countries then I think musicians will feel more realised. In other words, life is changing so much ... we must expect the unexpected.
Would be wonderfull if Lucie becomes conductor of the orchestra of the 18th century.
As she said herself she already studies italian language and culture too! So if she would also commit herself to orchestra direction and conducting she shall be able to direct, conduct, sing, play continuo and recorder in early italian baroque opera's. Would be a magical event when that happens. She can do it!
I will suggest it. Who knows ;-)
Mmm, id to look at his computer hes a little creepy, sayin and your good looking mmm, not really neccesary to say that!🤔🤔🤔🤔
Agreed
Awkward... What a lost opportunity
I agree... what a wasted chance, and weird comments
