GoPro Ski: Backcountry Skiing in Chile - The Magic of the Super C
HTML-код

- Join GoPro athlete Chris Davenport as he takes us to one of the best lines in the world. Nestled in the Chilean Andes is Ski Portillo, an old mining town turned world-renowned ski resort home to some of South America’s best terrain. Just outside the ski area boundary is a couloir called the Super C. It’s a huge climb from the ski area, but it all pays off with a 1,706-meter (5,600 ft.) descent.
Many film crews use helicopters to get to lines like the Super C, due to heavy camera gear. But it’s a rite of passage to earn your turns on the Super C and in fact, taking a helicopter isn’t an option. By shooting 100 percent on GoPro, our media team was the first professional production team to climb and document the Super C.
Huge thanks to Ski Portillo for showing us some of the best skiing in the Southern Hemisphere. With significant early-season snowfall and the continuation of El Niño, Portillo is shaping up to have another great season. www.skiportillo.com/en

This i think is the first time ive watched a gopro vid and thought: "i wouldn't die doing that"
I'd fall and tumble to me death
Until the snow gives way and you get consumed by the avalanche.
exactly my thought 😂
Looked like a pretty average line
Hey guys! Just started a brand new channel dedicated to mainly GoPro and IRL videos that ive captured. Please do check out my channel and Subscribe! Here's my first upload - /watch?v=CLfEdyJMs8k

Thanks, Matthew. You keep watching them, we'll keep making them!
Yo Matthew!
Awesome vid !
Exactly.
Better than SEX!!!!!
Random trivia: the big, distant mountain you can see just above and left of center at 20 seconds is actually Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Western and Southern Hemispheres. :)
oh sweet! That's pretty cool! Thanks for pointing that out :)
Plus a sweet wave cloud!
wipeout2098 i’ll take useless youtube facts for 800!
Aconcagua: The highest mountain in the world, outside the Himalayas.
Not even close to true
Almost more impressive that they climbed that in their ski boots
They have special clips on the bottom of them that come off they actually get there foot melted into the boot for such a perfect fit
They used a helicopter and walked 100 yards
The magic of walk-mode

Portillo is probably my favorite place on earth. Well done, Chris! Cool video!
WONDERFUL, AMAZING. THIS IS CHILE, GREAT CONGRATULATIONS.
Love it - thank you! I probably had 1/5th as much fun watching this in my living room as you had doing it, and I didn't have to take the risk of ending my life.
Brilliant video, thank you for sharing the experience. There are some truly beautiful and amazing places, still unseen by most.
We need a winter olympics in Chile, sometime in the southern hemisphere.
Good luck with that---they like to do it in February. Perhaps Antarctica would have enough snow then...
OlDoinyo we just could make it in july. The main problem is that those countrys arent interested in wintersports
thank you for share it...thank you for inspire others!!!! great tunes by the way!
As ususal, an epic story, an epic video! Thank you GoPro!
I love this so much
That looks amazing....what a gorgeous place. 😍
man so that was so beautiful, i haven't skied since I was a kid but this brought back memories of spending time in the mountains as a kid!
NOOOOO this was too short! I want to see more!!!!
Come to Chile and ski with me this summer and there will be plenty more to see!
+Chris Davenport I love skiing but I live in the east coast 😭 if I could I would ski every day
You're a lucky man, it's the best snow season since a long time on that area, also Penitentes and Las Leñas. They say we'll have snow untill the last days of september.
Look up sherpas cinema
The last time I skied in my life, it was with that same descent. Exciting memories!

What gimbal was being used with the hero 4 on the chest mount? And we're can I get one?
Sieera my homie 🤣🤣🤣 love that
COME TO CHILE AMIG@S!!
WOW
awesome video! any way i could find out what mount was used on the car in the opening scenes?
Looks like a good old time.
sound sounds like outro from m83!
the art of flight
2:24 when I first saw it I thought they were in some kind of cave/indent in the ground because of the angle and when the camera angle changed it looked like they were warping space
#earlysquad
Viva Chile!
GoPro you should do something in India too. We need you. We have everything you need. And also gov might allow us to do something crazy ;)
See yah there chris
Amazing video - Is this all stabilised in warp (Premier Pro) ? More like this please!! :)
No, they use gimbals (you can see one at 2:08)
Also you can see something on the man's head at 3:28. But, honestly I don't know what is it. Maybe that's some kind of stabilizer or camera mount (sry for any mistakes in text)
that is the 360 degree camera
I think it's for making 360' videos
Ok - I'll take a look - Thanks :)
Chilean Andes + Sk + SnowBoard + Dakar + Downhill Valparaíso + Atacama Desert + Geisers of Tatio + Volcano + Hot Springs... Come to chile !!!!
+ patagonia + glaciers
Chileee
I am not able to find Glory Pop "Touch My Heart (Instrumental)" anywhere. Are you sure about this one? I am looking for the beginning music until ~38s and then you can hear it again from 2:05 to 2:40
I can't find it too! I think there is a mistake, it's not the good title I think. But I really need this song!
Its here: itunes.apple.com/us/album/glory-pop-2/id1023060813

I don't know the avalanche risk there but mostly you should drive one by one and not all at the same time to keep avalanche risk low and make sure only one gets stuck in the avalanche.
what editing program did you use to stabilize the video?
cualquiera puede llegar hasta esa cima antes de bajar? o se necesita conocer el camino?
Sad i live in the tropics, damn no snow :(.
:(
Same.. But we do have some amazing beaches!
Cenpido Elker Yeah! In Spain, luckily we've got both
Ramon Merino Villamil I'm currently in Florida next to Clearwater beach
Cenpido Elker Florida is a beautiful place
it must be painful hiking in ski boots, i mean i can barely walk on flat ground in ski boots so i couldn't imagine walking uphill.
totally agree
Segma Gaz Touring boots. Hike like mountaineering boots.
This would be the most fun thing ever
don't see in the comments, I'm curious of the hike time to the summit?
The hiking is hella scary
2:30 would be 32°50'08.9"S 70°09'11.7"W if anyone is interested
Can anyone answer why these guys hiked the mountain? They could’ve easily skinned the way up until the rocks, which was only a minor part of the climb
on my way...
+GoPro What stabilizers are being used in this video?
you can see at 2:39 the stabiliser has the "fy" trademark of Fei Yu gimbals
Yes ! it's the fei yu gimbal
#waterskiingsuperuoritygang
Why didn't they have the new backpack? I thought it is a nice thing to do sports?
I’m going to Portillo soon is it worth the hike?
Three people simultaneously skiing a terrain trap couloir in the backcountry, no waiting... That's some good avy safety...
Hi Joe, we actually skied the top part one at a time and then skied the bottom part together once the stuff had dispersed. The maritime snowpack in Chile makes it very safe even right after a storm and really the only hazard is stuff. So once that is managed, it's usually game on. But thank you for your thought to safety. Always important to think about.
Fair enough, I'm glad to know you're considering avy safety and not taking the attitude of "it's only sidecountry" that occurs much too often. Does this resort still control outside the resort boundaries? (Most resorts don't unless inbounds runs are in the fall line).
Looks like an amazingly fun chute to ski, I hope I can make it down to Chile at some point and enjoy some of that prime terrain.
It takes courage to descend the slope
these people crazy af
4:30 Is that lake frozen? If not, can anyone tell me how it's still liquid at that temperature? :D
When was this filmed ?
i feel like i could jave done this. then again it is hard to tell how steep it is
