That middle aged police officer writes great riffs!
😂🔥
Get him and James Het in the same room lol
I like that they’re releasing these AFTER the album release this time around. Gave us time to have some songs sink in before the context is given.
Hangman😍😍 ruclips.net/video/oLoMD_k7UQM/видео.html
Bill is the riff lord. Brent crosses the Ts and dots the is. Troy is the heartbeat. Brann fucking slays the drums, and has a golden voice.
Hell yeah I couldn't have said it better myself!!
1000% agree
Exactly, no one in this band is replaceable. They work so well together
There is no stopping Bill Kelliher. Riff Lord extraordinaire 🤘🤘🤘
Ya left this description: Most talented in band; Brent, who doesn’t get to write songs on this album.
This album is grand. I am floored by how much emotion and content was put into it, and I can’t get enough of it. Thanks so much for being who you are Mastodon. Much love! Peace 🤘
Gojira does rule!
Why wouldn't they ? 😄
Well it's a really personal one since it deals with the passing of their manager and it shows. Alot of songs on this album makes me feel melancholic. Especially Eyes of Serpent. I already thought that Emperor of Sand had alot of feels but this one is definitely another level. That's why I love this band. Every album is an experience
I saw Gojira 10/29 and indeed they did rule!
nice pfp, best gojira album besides the link
*sickle & peace🤘
The shortest review of this album would just be a tear emoji
🥲
moist
I tried listening to this album in reverse song order for my 3rd playthrough and boy was it a good decision. When i first heard it, due to album’s length, I guess by the last few songs i was a bit tired. It was only when i listened to Gigantium and Eyes of Serpents with “fresh ears” that i finally grasped their brilliancy
Eyes of Serpents slays me
I had a similar experience with Savage Lands. On my first few listens it felt like one of the weakest tracks. Then I had stopped the record to get out of my car and when I went back to it, that was the first song that played and it worked a lot better for me.
the record has really grown on me, i had mixed feelings on my first listen and then i just kept coming back to it, its solid and the emotion definitely comes through
Pretty much all of Mastodons work needs a few listens before final judgement. This new album might be my favorite.
Same here. I was really thrown off by the slower, somber feel of some of it. Over time it’s really grown on me though
Same here,
Yep, first couple of listens I wasn’t sure but now I’ve got my head around it and it’s awesome. Really great album
Same. Hated teardrinker & the lack of Brent hinds' vocals on the album. But all & all it's so solid. Also Teardrinker is my favorite song right now.
Teardrinker came out the moment I was really going through it, while being far away from my home. It genuinely helped me cope with my situation, come to better terms with what choices I've made, and drove me to get back home at all costs. Don't know if you dudes realize it, but you've touched a lot of people! Consensually!
Same as Disturbed. These guys touch the lives of so many people in so many ways.
I believe there's not a single band that doesn't change people's lives for the better.
As cliche as that sounds ofc.
As a devout follower of thier career from the beginning. They never cease to amaze through their deep talent and growth for the nearly last two decades. I just love when band members can ne mature enough to realize that it is their collective effort that brings them success. When egos interfere, it usually has undesirable consequences. When there are replacement members, the dynamic changes. Fabulous work boys! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Even though I've been into death, thrash and black metal for many years, I find the early mastodon albums a bit too chaotic. I much prefer the newer albums with brann doing alot of vocals
Cant wait for a longer making of.
4 of the chillest guys making fkn amazing music. Love them.
I’ve been on a Mastodon binge for 3 days. Now all I can hear is brann and Troy when I’m about to go to bed.
I miss the making of content 😪 love seeing behind the scenes stuff please keep em coming 🙏
Where is the difference?
And besides that, there will be a similar making of as the Emperor of Sand one.
@@user-bf6gz8ej4o I believe they had a couple of cds with bts on a separate cd
@@seancompton5393 But they're uploading a full documentary on youtube
@@user-bf6gz8ej4o I didn't know that 😳 thank you 😊 I'll definitely be watching 😄
Everybody : Creativity, composing!
Brent : I come at the end and put some sick solos.
Like they said, everybody's got a role. I'm NOWHERE NEAR as talented as Bill, but I love being the "riff writer" in my group. And if I don't write the riff, dibs on the harmony! Other guitarist writes solos and the occasional riff, drummer writes the bulk of the lyrics, bassist has a real knack for arranging. Both guitarists sing, and drummer screams.
Album of the year EASILY!
Mastodon takes so much care of us as fans, its just humble and amazing at the same time.
I wish this video was 90 minutes. I love how Brent is just politely and idly identifying his job as quality control and songwriting repair. I've been hoping for a video like this.
Looks like Brent took the passenger seat with this one which is cool and part of being a solid team 👍🏾👏🏾👏🏾
This album came out during the last weeks of my mom's life after a long battle with cancer. The whole album hits, but Dagger is both perfect and absolutely devastating for this time in my life.
Lost my mom after a long cancer battle, much love brother!
These dudes have so many tools in their tool box now, I can’t ever see these guys settling into a rut of ‘sameness’ between tracks and albums. They play to their strengths, they continue to improve their weaknesses, they’ve only gotten better with each album.
Mastodon makes me happy
Some fucking hard working dudes right there. Still tearing it up after 20 years. We are truly blessed to have them making music for us.
Man I’ve seen you in every H&G song on this channel and every time I read your comments I was like “this guy gets it”. Cheers for verbalising what’s up.
Stoked on that Silverburst ESP! New album is great 🤘🏼
Truly one of the best albums of 2021. I don’t know how these guys keep doing it but I’m forever grateful for more tasty Masto-jams.
"If you're making a living doing music you can't think that your idea is the best idea" someone needs to tell this to Billy Corgan.
Dear Santa,
it was a damn hard year and all I want for Christmas right now is a full documentery about the creative process behind Hushed and Grim!
Cheers from Germany , insane album!
I get confused when I listen to Mastodon. I sit and listen so dumbfounded as to why this band is not lifted up and praised so much more than what they already are. Mastodon’s music transcends so many bs limitations that have been placed on music. I absolutely love this new album, 10/10!!
Bands like this are like secret treasures and we are honored to have even found them. I've always stuck with obscure bands because they have not sold their souls. And it shows, especially with what we are seeing from the music and entertainment industry right now. Bands like this know what's up and steer clear of the mainstream meat grinder!
One of my favorite albums ever. You guys did an amazing job!
I mean just listen to the final act of Gigantium....so simple yet so strongly delivered, the conviction, the overwhelming wall of sound, the sense of pride beaming from the lyrics and Brent's ripping solo throughout....It's actually for me his best ever solo and this album has some SOLOS.
Troy's looking more like a wizard every with new album.
Love the jam session part. U hear the raw, unproduced, naked mastodon. And it's beautiful. Glad they kept it going till the end.
I really found this album more emotional, it's like a deep travel into feelings like missing or dissapointment. Congratulations Mastodon, for another masterpiece!
He said it best at the end there's no shortage of material that we're coming up with. Understatement of the year! Every album is just incredibly different you guys are the best !
The boys did it again! H&G is an absolute masterpiece, one of my favorites already. Between the 15 songs, there's not a single bad one, and songs like Gobblers Of Dregs, Peace And Tranquility and More Than I Could Chew are among the best songs Mastodon has ever written...
Best Mastodon album EVER!!!
I think I have seen too many comedy videos from Mastodon, I kept having to remind myself that they are a serious band.
I love this album
Haha I love the Star Wars thermos-looking thing with a label that says "Artistic Amplification". Definitely the coolest weed jar I've seen in a while.
I've listened to More than I could chew an unhealthy amount of times. Still going
Love the Kvelertak shirt
No shortage of material is definitely true! Not many 90 minute albums make every song feel special and import to the record. So many unique and exciting songs it makes the album feel like journey! Truly an achievement!
loving these videos, cool to see what my heroes are thinking when writing
Pretty sweet setup there - good balance between jam space and recording, probably pretty cozy sessions good for keeping spirits high - good freakin stuff.
Really dig the new record. Hope to see you live soon!
Stoked for the behind the scenes. I loved the album. 💚🤘🏻💚
This album is amazing. first metal album I've heard in ages with back to back great songs. Love it
Can't wait to see you guys Dec 4. Counting the days down
More of these videos please
This is one of the best albums I've ever heard in my entire life. And I really mean it... 🤗❤️
I think that your great power, Mastodon, is your incredible artistic "democracy" and your team balance. You develope your ideas together, you work with a true collaborative spirit. You all use your voices in your songs, after all, and this is emblematic. You're a remekable example for every rock band. Long life to Mastodon
Brann kicks ass on the drums, sings, AND chews gum, what a pro!
Troy is looking more and more like a wizard every day.
This kinda confirmed my suspicions that Brent wasn't really as involved in the songwriting this time out. I love the new record, but it has a real lack of Brent that's kind of a bummer since he kills it in the few spots that are decidedly his work.
I agree. As much as I love Bill's work, Brent to me is the most interesting part of Mastodon and we've been getting less and less since Crack the Skye
Seems to be his choice, he said he held back material he’d written for his band with Matt pike. Still some of his best guitar work on this album. More vocals would’ve been cool but Brann and Troy stepped their vocals up and the album is great so it’s whatever
@@puppetmaster8551 tbh I wasn't as blown away by his guitar stuff on this album as I have been with every other. Especially after the solo-fest that was EoS. Seemed like he kinda phoned it in on this one. Brent phoning it in is still more interesting than the average guitarist's playing, so I'm not too upset about it, but it definitely feels like he didn't really care much about this one.
@@voodude1074 Eh I think some of his best work ever is on the album, gigantium and gobblers of dregs are some of the best solos he’s ever written Imo, solo wise I think he showed up big time on this album even if his role in the writing wasn’t very big for the album. Overall songwriting a think he Definitely didn’t really care but I very much enjoyed his solos and thought he showed up big in that area. Outside of the 2 I already listed I thought eyes of serpents/teardrinker/more than I could chew/peace and tranquility/pain with an anchor/Skeleton of splendor all had awesome solos too, I pretty much enjoyed every Brent solo on this album
@@voodude1074 Yeah, you can really tell there isn’t a lot of thought out into the solos. It sounds like he went into the studio for a day, they just handed him a guitar, and they went through a track going, “Okay, solo here.” and then moved on to the next one. The only solos on this record that don’t just feel like Brent one taking it are the ones on The Beast and Peace and Tranquility, which makes sense considering those are the two songs he actually wrote. But nothing here compares to the solos from something like Roots Remain or The Czar.
Hoping that the "making of" comes out soon. Love y'allz.
Been looking forward to this, legends 🖤
I was pleasantly surprised by the drum intro that opens the album...Sounds really good, and totally unexpected...
I'm going see these guys next Friday night I cannot fucking wait🎸🎸🎸
Aamazing document about how to work remotly and listen another perspectives of music, thanks Mastodon!
I love that Bill is wearing a Kvelertak shirt.
Absolutely spectacular album
In a sea of mediocrity Mastodon crests the wave and brings all aboard for an epic journey. Love the new album. Keep it up guys. 🤘🏻
A very fitting analogy.
Just got the Hushed and Grim edition Crosley record player in. Just need the vinyl and four signatures to go with it now. 😉 Really ties the room together.
Totally in love with the new music 💘💘💘
"Our writing process has definitely differed from what it was back in the past."
Divining the subtext of that, combined with the seeming disinterest during the making of Emporer of Sand, it seems Brent's interest in writing for Mastodon is waning greatly. I still love the band, but there's a reason Leviathan, Blood Mountain and Crack the Skye are what they are. The majority of the music of those albums was written by Brent.
Best album I’ve ever heard, hands down. Start to finish, every song is full of power and emotion
the backing track is really making me want to a hear an instrumental version of this album.
Bill is such an underrated guitarist...RIFF LORD!
Man I’d love to be a fly on the wall in Bill’s studio.
I love Mastodon!!! I bought a shirt before the album came out to represent the new album! 🤘🏽
Brilliant album as always.
The most complete album so far.
Thanks a lot - you guys build a legacy that will be heard in the next decades to follow. WOW
Love this band.
Fuck yeah boys! Mastodon forever!
Love the album! Love these videos!
give us a whole doc!
I don`t know who does what but there is always awesome stuff coming out.
Magnificent. Seen this band twice and once drank with B. Great times
Which B? Brent, Brann, or Bill? Lol.
@@notsure1969 yes
@@notsure1969 lol, sorry it was Brent. Guess I was typing too fast
hell yeah

It is fantastic. 🔥
That kvelertak shirt. ❤️
Brann is the only guy not making me feel hella old right now haha
The fucking legends
Fuck I love Mastodon.
0:55 stuffed & mounted turkey in a chair, wtf?! nice.
Bill looks like my uncle Stu. Endearing.
Favorite type of Mastodon content-Cheers BC
Please keep making this videos! 🤘
I'm sure I read there was a 'Making of' being filmed like Emperor of Sand. I hope that's the case
Can't wait to see you guys in Asheville!
Que gran disco🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Fuck yeah to the KARP shirt.
i want that new esp sooooo baaaaad
Another great album. Love this band so much. Kind of think of them as this generations Metallica. New album kind of sounds like what could have come after Crack the Skye. That same kind of emotion.
Metallica hasnt put anything good out since the black album though, so hopefully they are NOT this generations metallica.
I love old metallica though
I would cut off a toe to be at these writing sessions
Surprised Brent doesn't seem very involved in the writing process
he's got a new side project coming soon, apparently most of his songs got reworked for that
@@ninjax9675 and this is how Mastodon really falls apart after releasing 3 pretty uninspiring albums in a row
@@jacobwilson7030 nothing about this album is uninspiring, it’s been extremely well received. All of their albums are good too, nothing they’ve done is uninspiring and they keep doing new stuff.
@@jacobwilson7030 i get not liking emperor of sand or hushed and grim, but how can you be a mastodon fan and dislike omrts?
