- The end of the road in Bolivia is approaching. But before our van life adventure finishes, we still have one last epic drive to come. The TRECHEROUS laguna route.
Often described as one of the toughest, but rewarding routes to drive in all of South America, we knew we couldn't miss it.
But will Ruby make it across in one piece? Join us to find out.

Great video and stunning scenery 👍🚐
Glad you enjoyed it.
It was a stunning drive 👌
Fab work by Steve , them flamingos are well funky with the stripes. Amalgamating tape is awesome, comes to the rescue again, and glad the Wallas is doing good too! Well done Ruby! And both of you 2 as well x
That and duct tape can get us out of most situations temporarily 😂
Sadly, the stress of working in those conditions buggered the glow plug. Not a major problem, just waiting to find a space to sort the clutch issue, then we can get a replacement sent out 👍
🎉 Firsties?🎉 Nooice! 😎 STOC
Fastest again. Great job 👏
@@vanlifetipstech tee-hee, woke up early...sipping tea watching the sunrise :) cheers you two 😎
Wow! Awesome video
Awww glad to hear you enjoyed it.
Crazy landscapes right? Looked like another planet at times 😲
Cool video
Cheers man.
It was an insane landscape. Felt like we were on another planet at times.
The desert reminds me of Arizona a little. You really do push the limits of Ruby don't you. Nice ariel shots and thanks for the subtitles.
In places, I can see that. A lot higher and colder mind 🥶
She has a tough life, but she always gets looked after afterwards ❤️
Glad someone found them useful. Take forever to type as Willow always talks a lot in cab videos apparently 😂
Steve and Wallace doing a great job 👏🏻👏🏻 And the flamingos look amazing!
They did excellent. Sadly, shortly after getting to the beach in Chile, the Wallas has stopped working again. Nothing major, just need to replace a glow plug.
The flamingos looked fantastic, Steve did a great job! And the geysers were so cool!
It was so rewarding to finally see pink flamingos. All the ones we'd seen in South America had been white up until that moment 😂
It was a truly spectacular landscape, wish smellavision existed so people could have smelled how bad the geysers smelt 😬
Don’t always get chance to watch much you tube these days. But when I watch one of your videos it just astounds me how intrepid you both are. Amazing to watch you guys do what you do
Haha you have to think on your feet on this trip. Willow's skill set obviously helps 😂
Awesome video guys
That track certainly looked rough !
Beautiful views though, and the Flamingos 😮
Nice one Geyser 💨 😆
Cheers guys.
It was a stunning place to drive through, although the washboard roads were horrific 😬😂
Really felt like we were driving on another planet at times.
Another great video you two! It was good to see Steve again 😎 STOC
Steve really earned his keep in this video. He's enjoying a little break whilst we try and find a garage.
Amazing video guys. Totally stunning 😍 What a rough road though! Safe travels 💜xx
Thanks guys, it was a brutal four days of driving, but the views more than made up for it ❤️
It was like driving on another planet at times 😊
Bogus that the CVBoot only lasted 2 weeks! At that point you're Gonna have to order them by the friggin dozen😢
It was very frustrating. Gonna put it down to cheap parts.
Ya know that duct taped CV joints will only last so long. How will you resolve the potential damage? Do you carry an extra CV or axle?
We stripped and regressed the joints as soon as we arrived in Chile. Thankfully we had a few spare boots as well. See if these last us a little longer 🤞
@@vanlifetipstechNooice ! I knew you had some majic in your stash 🤣
@@SundryTalesOfConstance79WESTY always gotta be prepared right 😉
@@vanlifetipstech only if you want to keep going 😀
@@SundryTalesOfConstance79WESTY I think that it's clear we do at this point 😂
Nice to see some HiAce action! Bolivia looked great (apart from fuel, which HiAces drink a lot of 😮 )
Yeah, the fuel situation in Bolivia was tricky, but if you could get it and for local price it was super cheap.
Love this video style. Folks spend too long with all kings of excessively fancy stuff. Your video is more real to me.
Ahh man, that's so cool to hear that our videos are relatable. We've always shared the highs and the lows, but not many people really connect with the limitations of doing a trip like this in an old VW without many luxuries.
Nice landscape but brutal roads, it creates havoc on mechanical components. 😢
Oh yes. We’re paying for it now, but at she got us out! 😜
Just put a Wallas Nordic dt in my rig but haven't used it. What kind of fuel are you burning at that altitude in the Wallas?
It’s hard to say exactly, but to give an idea. We filled up our 10L tank before we entered Bolivia and it ran out in Chile, 20 days later. We cooked on it everyday and ran it as heating for around 5 hours a day for around 15 days of that time. Three times in this period we also left it on all night. So at a rough guess we used it about 120hrs on 10L.
Good information. My 2006 Sprinter burns diesel so I hooked into the chassis fuel tank. At your consumption, that's 15 liters a month, which 15% of my 100L capacity. That's exciting that the Wallas ran so well at that high altitude!
19:29 Wamazing! Pink Flamingoos 🦩 🦩 🦩 🦩 🦩 🦩
Proppa ones... Not those rubbish white ones we'd been seeing before 😂
What a trip! Great video as always. Hope you can keep going and things get sorted. Sooo want to keep seeing your adventures.... Oh and from my experience all good T2s are held together with duck tape 😂
Thanks buddy. Was one of the most spectacular drives we've done on the trip.
Shortly after arriving in Chile, we suffered some clutch/gearbox related problems and just arrived at a garage yesterday.
Might be a bit much for duct tape this time 😂
