Why are spearfishing-specific gloves worth it? As opposed to, say, hardware store work gloves, which is what most spearos I know use.

Dyneema weave with nitrile rubber, Tough fabric with good grip when wet.

@@RobAllenSpearfishing Mahalo! Do they last long enough that one ends up spending less money on them over time vs cheap work gloves? Or at least does one end up wasting less natural resources (rubber etc.) over time? (I'm willing to spend more to help the earth.)

@@quinnculver4336 No idea, I have never done a comparison. Very difficult to do accurately. The inner Dyneema fabric is stronger than Kevlar so should show very little wear com[paired to cheap work gloves. If the nitrile rubber wears, you can touch them up with contact adhesive.

@@RobAllenSpearfishing What do you think of just measuring average total dive hours for different types of gloves? The statistical analysis would be easy with some data. (I could do that for you.) For example if you had some people use each kind of glove and record (estimated) dive hours of each. Of course, more data is better.

@@quinnculver4336 Way too many variables to do it like this. I can dive 100 times and hardly damage the gloves but, on one dive where there is a bad sea with big surges and, the reef is covered in rough shells like oysters, mussels and or barnacles, the gloves can take a much greater beating on that one dive.
