This generation don't know him. This was the man that inspire Jay Jay Okocha. He was the best in his time and very skillful. He was termed the equivalent of 3 players on the pitch. Yet youthful exuberance killed his game. A great learning point for young footballers today.
What I saw him doing in 1984/85 with Calabar Rovers, especially when he scored a goal directly from a corner kick was unbelievable. Sad that his career was flushed down the drain the way it was.
Finally, I have seen who this much talked about Etim Esin is today. Grew up hearing stories of how good he was on the ball. Well done Sir. Your memories live on.
We are very connected to one another than we think, today Etim is narrating what a northerner did for him years back. Please politicians should stop polarizing we Nigerians.
Why are they interrupting him. He seems to be more articulate than the journalists. I love the way he wants to put everything out and clear the issues surrounding him.
Watched the flying eagles team Etim played fir at the national stadium during that World Cup qualifier they where incredible. That 87 team with Adeolu Adekola, John Eneh Okon, saw all there qualifying matches at the stadium it was one of the best team we had. We need that autobiography and where to buy it
There is SO MUCH more to Etim Esin's travails that meets the eye. From the spiritual, to, as he says his youthful exuberance, to the family and "enemies', to emotional, to ignorance on issues like this, to political (both national and international football politics) etc.this is October 2019 but I wonder if he has finally released his book. I would like to read his accounts of events..
This guy is a product of Methodist Boys High school, Oron, Akwa Ibom state. He was discovered during Chronicles cup and was quickly recruited by Rovers of Calabar, before moving to New Nigerian Bank, Abiola babes then to Belgium. He lost assets worth 12 million dollars as at the time he got into trouble
He was skillful but not as skillful as JJ Okocha. Let’s be truthful. I watched him too and I watched Okocha. I watched all the qualifying matches of the 1987 flying eagles. JJ Okocha is the most skillful player Nigeria has ever had till date.
I grew up watching Etim"Thunder thighs"Essien.... Big player but lavish spender... Thank God for his life.... The most skillful player I've had the pleasure of watching besides Henry Nwosu and Adeolu Adekola👍😊
These interviewers are terrible. Stop making it about yourself. You brought the man, let him speak and stop speaking over him and monopolizing the interview. Jeez!
One of Naija finest, he denied the world his vast talent due to his foolish antics. Youthful exuberance my yansh. We celebrated this buffoon, he denied us his brilliant dribbling skills. Foolish is as foolish does.
Indiscipline, sexual immorality, recklessness will always destroy a shiny start. Samson and Delilah; Joseph and Masters wife stories are serious warnings...!
Fortune HHH Good enough he said he was stupid and naive. That’s Etim ‘s problem because he had older players like Keshi, Eguavon, and Siasia around him as role models but he disregarded them. He even confessed that Keshi queried him concerning his lavish life. All that is history, he has to live with it. That’s the fact of life, “each person will reap what he or she sows in life by the decisions and choices we make
You don’t speak like you have real life experience of the world. Is anyone meant to take this statement you dropped seriously? You’ve never sinned in your entire life? I doubt it
This story wasn't tell for you to judge him. Mr Angel without sin. At least he's genuine enough to own up to his mistakes instead of blaming on others like you'll do@@danielchukwu4212
Oh yeah, he thought was untouchable, the universe has a mysterious way of intervening to humble the person, teach him a lesson. He must have learned it by now, but the hard way abi!
@Mampe Lesetla...He did not think he was untouchable. Can’t you reason. He accepted his mistake and was truthful that he slept with an underage girl. Some people would have denied but he did not. He was ignorant of the laws of the land. In Nigeria a lot of people do those things and get away with it.
He made mistakes and accepted his mistakes and wants the world to learn from his mistakes. What else do want him to do? Be a bit constructive in your criticism please. Our Maradona of the late 1980’s
what the heck have u archived being a commissioner the whole time since about a thousand years? Do u not have a goal? U should have moved to bigger things instead of occupying space there.
May God continue to bless you for your kindness towards players which has caused your name to be mentioned in this interview. I imagine you have done and are still doing more than has been mentioned in this interview. God bless you, sir.
If it was an adult woman, he would’ve had kids with her and been a very successful Nigerian player from the 80d by now. But it was just the lack of understanding European law at the time which led to his predicament.

He was a baller and a very good and entertaining one at that.
I didn't know Etim was this open and honest. May God bless him.
I saw that too very sincere and never covered any past sins
Etim i am from jigawa state not borno and i am still a commissionet
Wow... Meet up with him
Incredible sir

Thank you African legend. I am not a Nigerian but thank you for the advice on youthful exuberance.
Thank you Etim for the humility with which you relaid your story
Etim maradona of Nigeria 👏👏👏
Eti boy, I'm glad to know you're good and kicking, you should be in a coaching academy by now. Bravo

...very poor, Gabe Segun - I thought I was the only one that noticed. 'Beer parlour mode' is not the best approach for good TV.
You guys tried by giving Etim this platform to educate us and the youth on how they might not comport themselves if given such opportunities 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
If you wrote a book sir, I will read it from start to finish. Great story. Thank you for sharing

Well spoken. Respect
O my God!! Etim Esin still my best
Etim Esin - The "Enfant Terrible" of Nigeria football of those days.

I’m glad he blames his bad choices for his misfortune. A typical Nigerian put the blame on spiritual forces and village witches.
Etim Esin was the "Enfant Terrible" of his time .....and also Tarila Okorowanta!!!
Etim "Super Brat" Esin
Etim Esin, enfant terrible of Nigeria football. Good to see him on this platform
You were a star in your days Etim.. I hope this generation will learn one or two things from your mistakes... I watched you during Saudi 89 or so..
Not saudi 89. It was in chile 87
Very honest in his self criticism.
This man was at the very least at par with JJ Okocha as far as skills go. He was a joy to watch.
Oh Etim . Oh Etim 'Maradona' Essien . Ohhh . Na who no know your skill no ho know. Ohhhh.
Great player in and out of the field.
The Enfant Terrible as he was called. Etim Esin was my hero as a young child . He was so good that he was likened to Diego maradona .

Exactly
I think this is a phenomenal infirmity, not only with the soccer pundits, but also with the news anchors here in USA.
What a story
I like his frankness

I like how they talked about sets and all that....this was when there was true transition

the love of women is his and still remains his undoing till date

Hmmm... Something must kii a man. Abi??
I call it roughness, not love. If he had love for women he won’t be mean to them, he was just promiscuous
