DIY Dehydrated Food: Worth It or Waste Of Time?

    Thanks for sharing how you did the meals. Would love to see a follow up which you may show from your trip and of course would love to see a video of Yosemite!

    Hmm. Looks like the proportion of food that you dehydrated compared to the proportion that you bought, already sealed, was fairly small. The proportion of time you spent slicing, dehydrating, and sealing compared to the time spent purchasing sealed food and dropping them into your bear canister was probably fairly large. To me that would tip the scales and I would just buy the dried fruit and freeze dried meals. But it's all personal preference. My wife and I dehydrated chicken breasts once thinking it would be fun to cook up on a backpacking trip, and much easier to carry. Hmm. Didnt turn out well. We fed them to the dog. She loved them of course.
    Jerky is a different story. I love making jerky and sharing it camping.

      I completely understand where you're coming from. I am someone who really loves to prep and cook my own food. So I really enjoyed it.
