Jeremy Clarkson is one of the few or not the only car journalist that can launch a BMW, with BMW launch system.
I don't think he did, look at the dash, Launch Control Active wasnt displaying on the screen, it usually does until you let off the accelerator again, also the fact that the rear wheels spun up in the snippet before he launched it leads me to believe he didn't activate launch correctly but the M5 did indeed save him with the raw power of it and it's 4wd system

@@azaboy2 M5 doesn’t have conventional launch control because it has a ZF Auto gearbox, rather than a DCT. With the Auto box, it’s up to the driver to properly launch the car, as the computer won’t give you the same assistance for launch control as a car with double clutch gearbox. That’s why this M5 doesn’t give consistent 0-60 times
He didn’t launch it he did brake gas old school .
Still remember back when Jezza reviewed the E60 V10 M5, hated it right until he pushed the M button.

@@MyLife2020 well you are right, it just means, that they compared wrong cars. they rather should compare a E63s or something like it, because the GT is concepted for a racetrack. (just as funny information, the m5 has 100HP more, 4wd and more torque, thats why the m5 won)

My Life E63S any day for me. The interior is so much better in an E63 than an M5

You don't have to launch it. The electronic does it. Without it would be around 1 seconds slower till 0-100 km/h... An Alfa stelvio goes without an effective launch control 3.9 seconds. But there are American records about 3.3 seconds with a stelvio from 0-100 km/ h with 505 horse power. That is how the italians do it..

This should have been versus E63 AMG.
Wouldn't have changed a thing, The M5 is 3.3 to 60, while the E63 AMG S is 3.4.
Also, it's the same engine used in this GT, as the E63 which is most likely why the chose it.

The E34 M5 with its ~300 hp straight six has always been a favorite of mine. The new F90 M5 almost doubles that performance but apparently keeps the spirit intact. Loved Mr. Clarkson's review.

@@momoloco99rh the amg gt is just a completely different car than the M5 in general. the M5 is impressive in a straight line especially because it has 4WD. The amg gt is a lot better balanced and will go around corners a lot better than the M5. E63 would be a matchup for the M5 that actually makes sense
@@quintennijs6138 Both the F90 M5 Comp pack and the AMG GT S have 7:35 on the Nordschleife. M cars have been known for being balanced. BMW designs and engineers them around 50/50 weight distribution. Even non-M's have this.

AGAIN: For everyone who doesn’t get what this example is about! All I wanted to say with this is that an AWD is not automatically faster than an RWD. And it is not related to the AMG and BMW. Just a very simplified example.

Not really surprising though is it despite how he portrays it to the laymen. The M5 not only has the advantage of 4WD vs the AMG GT's RWD, but it even has a higher power to weight ratio. And given that BMW is notorious for underrating these engines, it's probably actually putting out north of 600bhp, making it even more of an easy win for the M5.
Yeah the E63S is faster than the M5 even though the M5 is more expensive. The M5 CP is faster than the E63S but the GT63S is faster than the M5 CP

the GT 63S wasnt a fair fight. the car only puts out 375kw,not the power of the M5,then factor in AWD,its a no brainer. the E63s is quicker than the std M5 buy around ,1 of a second on 1/4mile,but then the comp with 10w more than the E63S, beats the E63s by 0,1/0,2 on same distance. also lighter than the E 63S by a good few(think around 200) kgs as well.both great cars,along with RS 6/7 all got strong and weak points. there is not one which is so much more superior than the other one, it honestly is that close.closer than most think. with professional drivers especially,or guys who know how to launch these cars properly. dont like hearing: "i know this guy and i saw this race...." lets just say ive been at a professional circuit (with top drivers racing drivers) conducting proper tests with the correct timing equipment. even the GT-R isnt that fast,however put it on its natural habitat,a race track,it excels.(7;04 at the green hell).i personally love them all,and i am a AMG fan,but i am also a M-POWER and RS guy too. they do things differently to each other. you cant go wrong with any of them,you would be happy with any one of them.

pascogiguere With great power comes great responsibility. I’m well aware of rod bearings-I stay up on all the maintenance. The car has been pretty reliable. It gets driven hard and on rally’s.

Back in 2009, Jeremy Clarkson tried to do the same thing and prove how fast BMW M car was (the X5 M) by pitting against a rwd less powerful sports car( the Jagaur XKR). And despite the fact that it had less HP and RWD and a slower 0-60 time, the rwd jag ended up winning...I think they played it safe this time, lol

Sizakele Comfort Mtshweni so why does m5 competiton not also lose in standstill if merc has more torque? Torque would usually affect standstill more than a roll which is more HP dependant

@@Alby911 I've had multiple cars from BMW all resulting in huge mechanical issues (premature blown head gasket, constant rear shock absorber premature use, transmission slip, electrical issues, etc...)

A colleague at work has the E60 V10 M5 as an everyday all-year-round car and the Z4 for summer... Z4 needs way more maintenance than the E60...
They should’ve brought the E63S 🤷🏽♂️ because it’s obvious that the M5 is faster than the AMG GT

Comparing apples to oranges. M5 is the fastest BMW and E63s is the fastest Merc, you should put E63s against the M5, not the out dated AMG GTR

Why should it be rigged?? The base amg gt has less than 500 horsepower and only rear wheel drive which is terrible for drag races and additionally to that a 7 speed gearbox with long gears. The m5 has over 600 horsepower, all wheel drive for maximum traction and additionally to that shorter and more gears.
If you are surprised that the m5 won then i just lost hope in humanity

That’s why May is right a fiat panda Twinair is the most fun, you can max it out everywhere on straights and corners. I’ve had all kinds of cars including some performance cars, and have a lot of kart & some single seater experience, and my panda was the most fun I had on the road, I miss it and am pining to get another

Jeremy, I love you, but you do realize the M5 is not cheaper than the AMG GT. Both are around 120k E.
Plus the M5 has much more power, and drive goes to all wheels, so everyone knew from the first second there is no competition here.
Jeremy launches perfectly the m5 and beats a supercar when every other car reviewer struggles with traction control and looses from cars like the mercedes.....i m a bit confused
It’s because this is the first M5 with 4 wheel drive....and that makes a difference. All other M cars are RWD and are very difficult to launch.

KiMa say what you want but amg engineering is shit. I leased an e63s amg in 2017 for two years and it was sooo heavy that the extra bhp and extra 100nm of torque didn’t do anything when the M5 was launched properly and the handling and awd and transmission in the bmw is far superior

They go back and forth, one wins in one vid another wins in another and it's always by small margins like .1 Of a second. Basically same cars different body and noise.
