Hola from Queretaro. I was born in Chicago in 1942 Southside, and happy I obeyed my parents. I live in Queretaro now since 2021. I wish you the best, and stay away from drugs, drinks and lust. Your biggest expense is rent , your best option would be to buy an apartment even if it’s not in the fancy areas of Santo Domingo but it’s going to save you half of your expenses.
I love this channel because l’m a Dominican guy who is coming back to DR after 10 years living in USA, I am getting a lot of good information from this channel to do so smartly.
Thanks for the real information. Visiting in May again. Love Puerto Plata. Punta Cana is good but i can tell they have been developing a lot in the past 12 years. It depends if you want on the beach, which is always more or more inland is less. Fiber internet seems to be fast but unreliable. Satelite internet seems to be an option in more rural areas.
Jamie Gruber did a similar video in Punta Cana for a family of 4. The cost was about $5000US, that's The expenses with two children in private school And the high electricity cost of CEPM, the electricity company, which holds a monopoly in Punta Cana. So as you said, it varies based on where you are mthe DR, family size and other extra activities you may engage in. I'd likely be spending what you spend, but just for me alone and i wouldn't pay any rent as i have my own property (Just HOA).
I wanted to thank you and Jay for providing such awesome information. I've been to the DR four times and I'll be going again in about 2 weeks. I'll be visiting Puerta Plata on this trip in search of possible housing in preparation for my retirement. Once again, you guys are great and I truly appreciate. I currently live in Houston, Texas and cannot wait to get out of the United States for a change of lifestyle and a different environment.
I love DR, but my total expenses are about $4,000 a month in the US (house worth $600K with a mortgage of only $1284). My taxes is a big part of my $4K. It seems that there's a lot of nickel and diming in the US because my mortgage is only 32% of the my expenses (no credit card debt or car loans). Maybe I should buy a place in DR and just live in both places
Whew you're on one of those sub 3% mortgage loans before the interest rates went way up. Congrats. Maybe when interest rates come back down you could pull a little equity from your house and easily buy an apartment cash in the DR. Rent it on Airbnb when you're not there.
@@Passport_Ninjayep. Sub 3% rate. Brought before both rates and prices went up. I don’t want I touch the equity though. I could just put a large down payment down. Need to think about it
The budget is a very interesting look into quality of life through your lens. You are right the socialized side of the any budget depends on the individuals. Is it worth at any point to purchase a house or condo given the affordable rents? Enjoyed the point of view.
Depending on where you look in the DR compared to the US, you could potentially get a relatively new villa or condo for less than a house in the US. You could then get residency and a second passport as well.
It depends, if you have the money to purchase the condo out right, I would say yes. If you have an income generating asset that pays for your rent, then renting long-term works.

I wanted to give you good feedback on a video you made about 1 year ago. You listed the banks that were paying high interest rate yields on money denominated in dollars and money invested using Dominican Pesos. I found this interesting, but you did not cover the protection against bank failure in your country. So, for example, in the USA we have FDIC insurance in case a bank goes out of business. Also, my ex is from Brasil and I remember she told me that the Brasilian government stole money from people's bank accounts maybe 40-50 years ago. What protection would my money have invested in a CD or some other type of high interest account have? Also, what if a foreign bank fails...not a Dominican bank? Is the protection different for domestic banks vs foreign banks? Also, can you do another video based interest rate paid on deposits? Maybe you could do an interview with a private banker in Santo Domingo to cover the investment options foreigners can participate in?
The rate depends on the time you go to the bank, the particular bank, how long you keep the deposit, and if it's in pesos or dollars. So if I do another one if you are not ready to invest that day then it can change. It is best when you are ready to buy a CD to go and shop a few different banks to get rate. As far as if your money is insured I can find that out.
@@NorberisR I understand all of that. Are you aware of FDIC insurance in the USA? Is there something similar in the Dominican Republic? Could you try and interview and investment advisor on your RUclips channel from a bank or brokerage?

😢😂😂 the DR getting like the US here with those prices only difference better beach views and some tranquility. Please keep the culture alive there not that American toxic export culture
not even close to US prices
@live4yourself_ I'm so glad you said that because the only thing people focus is our rent cost because it's $1300. Everything else they don't pay attention to. These are not US or gringo prices🤨
you wrong, i pay $5k in Boston monthly on my expenses. her expenses is like she says it could be lower or higher then that, theres many things she can do to save money example veggies and fruits you can by those off the street vendors and ara a lot more cheaper then the supermarket, she can save money on cleaning lady and just do the cleaning herself, gym i would just cancel that if im only going to go 2 times a week, i just go for a walk weather is perfect for that over there, rent she lives on a apt in a tower reason why she paying that for rent, i pay the same for my condo in Juan Dolio Beach. expenses in DR wayyyy cheaper then here USA
@@EduardoBurgosRecess you're in Boston big difference. I love in Atlanta 2bd 2bath $1320 a month, utilities $200, Internet with Xfinity $97 no cable because I'm barely home, exclude health insurance because it's too expensive, app subscription $60 Netflix,Amazon, Crunch fitness is $30 a month, now car insurance is high across America for two cars $609
My rent, for a small, 650sqft 1-bdroom apt in the Bronx, not in the best neighborhood, is $1600/month. Just rent!
you left out how much you pay for your Childs private school.
I never mentioned she was in a private school nor does she attend private school so it's understandable I would leave it out.
i know its a lot of leg work to do a video on private schools with prices for people with kids that are considering moving to DR....but it would be really appreciated.@@NorberisR
I've already done a video on international schools. You can check my Dominican culture playlist
i did watch that but not that informative as far as cost is concerned.@@NorberisR
Maybe in the future I'll do another video on this topic. However, I did leave the contact information for each school I mentioned. Maybe you can give them a call and ask about pricing.
lol in america you gonna spend 350$ every two weeks on groceries
That's a lot😯
