    I think dollar value is a dangerous mindset to lock into for beginner sellers. It all comes down to the product, price, listing quality and customer service metrics. You could list 5 Taylor Swift CDs at or below market value and they’ll sell every day of the week. EBay likes you putting quality listings into their platform that buyers want, not because of a high dollar amount.
    If new sellers focus all their energy on placing high dollar amounts into their listings, they’ll ignore the most vital parts of selling on eBay, which is sell through rate, listing quality, building good seller metrics, customer service as well as a good price. Their listings will never be placed in front of the right customer and a new seller will end up with a store full of over priced inventory that doesn’t sell.
    I know you’ve touched on all this stuff before in previous videos, but think it’s worth highlighting/clarifying to anyone who listens to this.

    • @TheAussieFlipper
      @TheAussieFlipper  6 месяцев назад +3

      I don’t think I weighed in too heavily on high asp being the only thing to consider. Price, photos, title, sell through rate was all discussed in this video. I think units per day is a easy way to start adding junk into your store trying to hit a unit metric when really to your point of you just bought an item that was desirable you’d get a better result. We’re in it for profit in your pocket so a high asp comes along with that and I’m a firm believer in the comments surrounding what’s in it for eBay which naturally plays to listing higher valued stock

      I do tend to agree with this. Ultimately ebay will always put an item in front of potential buyers regardless of ASP. Plenty of great ebay sellers sell low ASP items, but do it in volume. Most casual resellers adopt a different approach to this for obvious reasons. If its a less than desirable item, the item will sit around and have a slow sell through rate (regardless of price). The metrics that need to be adhered to are quite simple:
      Pick up and sell quality items with fast sell through rates, but only if it leaves you with your desired profit margin as a metric. Junk will only accumulate in your store if you aren't strict with meeting the metrics you set for yourself.
      I think something which isn't discussed enough (not relating to this channel specifically, but just in general in the reseller space) is not only the consistency of a listing goal (whether you're a believer of volume or ASP).... but ensuring you are having a sourcing budget/goal as well. Many times sellers will purchase items in front of them because they know it has the potential to make profit, but ultimately a lot of us get burned by tying up our hard earned profit into new stock. If ebay stopped trading today, having a healthy bank account is far more important than overspending on stock that is either unlisted, listed but hasn't sold or simply has a slow sell through. I value the weekly spending budget/goal as importantly as my listing consitency.
      Sure there will be times where you need to drop a little extra $$ on a private pick or opportunity that is too good to pass up, but the key is being prepared for those situations, and the only way to do so is building up cash in the bank and not sitting on stock that isn't selling. Paying up and having a high ASP doesn't always mean good results if the item isn't selling.

    Great tips 🙂. I sell books so using the flat rate Australia Post packaging works out a lot cheaper for me especially for heavy bundles. I only use my own packaging if weight is under 500g. Would love a detailed video on international post. Not so much on costs but more about the labelling requirement for different countries. How to display VAT properly on the outside of package for UK sales etc. Germany requires you to sign up for packaging act. High insurance costs have put me off selling to US (as I’m only a small seller). I’m probably just overthinking it all 😂

( This seems to be a main concern in packing items correctly). Also, I follow many ebay group sites and the many of the issues that sellers have to do with scammers. Do you have a video on how you deal with scammers or lessen the chance of being scammed. Thanks for the great video!
