The reason he didn't change is becuase if Rick no longer exists their fight didn't either, meaning he wouldn't need to regenerate meaning he would not change back.

What I love about the reveal of a TARDIS full of Ricks, is that the weeping Angels send you back in time, meaning he'd have had plenty of time to set that up

Like to point out that most of the fight The Doctor wasn't even trying. He was actively trying to run or avoid fighting. If this was the 7th he could probably convince Rick to kill himself like he did to Daleks.

Yep. You can even tell that Rick was WAITING for that: That's why he tells the Doctor to "hurry up". Thankfully, the Doctor was able to disable his gun before the flash hit, or Rick would have just shot him mid-regen.
Rick not shooting the Doctor while he was monologuing is not really a blunder. The Doctor could only be killed during regeneration, and he was only warming up to it. If Rick had shot any sooner, the Doctor would only heal from it. Rick simply didn't take into account of the Doctor using his Sonic Screwdriver at the very last second.
This and not to mention the animation is just for entertainment purposes
Case in point when Rick Xenomorphed out of the doctor. the doctor healed from that instantly as you couldnt even see any wounds from it later. The Doctor was NOT at his vulnerable point of his regenration, that would be when he turns from yellow to white

Well they destroyed the tapes on purpose not in malicious intent of actually destroying footage of the show, they had tighter budget in terms of storing footage because they kept it on tapes that they had a limited amount of that when they were running out of tapes for newer series that they need to tape, they would record the newer series on top of the old tapes, wiping off the previous footage on it. Some other tapes were junked simply because they thought there's nothing to keep them for, reruns were very rare at the time so old episodes weren't relevant.
I see some people are confused on why Rick didn't just shoot the doctor while he was talking mid regeneration. If Rick had shot The Doctor with his usual laser gun, it would have indeed killed him (hence why he told him to hurry up cause he knows he can only be killed during regeneration) but Rick was unprepared for how violent the regeneration actually was and was caught off guard. wondering what The Doctor was planning when he programmed his sonic screwdriver to cause his portal gun to send a portal at the wall. (I fully believe The Doctor programmed the sonic screwdriver to do this as part of his plan on using Rick's own attack against himself). When Rick found the TARDIS falling apart, with his usual gun destroyed, and realizing there wasn't enough time to grab another, he quickly shot his chest clone thing device at The Doctor; The problem is, this doesn't kill The Doctor the way his usual gun would, as it doesn't have any actual sci-fi laser blast to it. Instead, it simply causes The Doctor to have a massive hole in his chest, which may be severe in any other context, but ultimately is just another ordinary mortal wound which he could easily heal from mid-regeneration like this, as you can see his regeneration energy surrounding his chest after it is ripped opened.
Ultimately though, it didn't really matter if The Doctor would have died from this or not, because Rick's persistence on killing him causes him to hit himself with the D-Mat erasing him from existence and everyone's memories. Considering The Doctor Didn't change his appearance though, I assume Rick erasing himself from existence also meant that The Doctor Never needed to regenerate because of him, so it essentially undid the whole fight.
When the eleventh doctor was fighting against a bunch of villains on Trenzalore for 900 years, the Cybermen did eventually adapt to use full wooden casings to counter his sonic screwdriver.
The Doctor still quickly found a way to beat them nonetheless.
The Doctor shot Rick with the gun that erased people from existence, like they never existed. Meaning if Rick never existed he didn’t fight the Doctor meaning the never got wounded and never regenerated. That why the Doctor at the end ask Morty if that was his spacecraft and Morty said I guess so then Rick appeared as a ghost and Morty was like “who the f*ck are you?!!”

ok so just to explain the Doctor was far more experienced and far more intelligent than rick not too mention far more level headed and focused where as rick is usually drunk or high or something not too mention incredibly arrogant and like boomstick said when rick faces someone whos actually intelligent he tends to lose more times than not where as the doctor has faced far greater threats than what rick usually faces and always finds a way to come out on top for this death battle i have to say i do like how the doctor is so relaxed about the whole thing while rick is just losing his mind trying to kill him because his ego got a little bruised i also like how you see the doctor hesitate when he gets the D mat due to his usual pacifistic nature and it ends with the doctor being able to set it up that basically Rick ends up destroying himself as for why it was still David tennant thats because Rick erased himself from existence therefore the fight never happened and he never got into the situation where he needed to regenerate a however he still remembers the fight which is why he tells Morty not to be a cynic as a wink to the audience
P.S also for anyone who says he could have shot him again he couldn't yet because while the regeneration was starting it wasn't actually happening, it seems Rick was aware of this has he told him to Hurry up probably waiting for him to do it so that he could kill him however the Doctor has been shown being able to Delay his regenerations and even harness some of that energy, him being as smart as he is probably planned for this situation and set it up so he could take the win when he got his hands on ricks portal gun you see him messing with it, he probably allowed it to get taken off of him just for the situation at the end in other words Rick had basically been playing in the doctors hands the entire time
Indeed. Rick's a genius, for sure, but he's also, ultimately, a human. The Doctor's been doing this for over 2000 years longer. In terms of experience, Rick was on the losing end. And, of course, yeah, that. Rick's a big fish in a small pond, the Council literally created the Central Finite Curve to ensure Rick would never end up in a universe where he's not the smartest guy around. Facing a foe who's not just as smart as him, but also, ya know, not drunk off his ass, well...Yeah.
Erasing Rick from the timeline cancels out the damage he did, hence: no regeneration.
The Sonic Screwdriver not working on wood doesn't mean wood acts like kryptonite and makes the screwdriver not work in its proximity. Unless Rick has some sort of technology that's completely made of wood, the screwdriver should still be able to disable the mechanical bits of anything Rick uses. And even so, the Doctor doesn't rely ENTIRELY on the Sonic Screwdriver to function, he'd have found some way around it if Rick DID have technology made purely of wood
There was an episode of the Doctor where someone was calculating how many people he had killed and the number just kept climbing and climbing. It scared everyone around him.
Fun fact, if you go back and look at the title of Superman vs Goku 2, it is now called The Irrelevant Sequel

Lovely reaction! Also, on the Note of 10 not changing when he regenerated, there are 2 possibilities on what happened.
(1) Ricks clone growing inside of his regenerating body ate up the new body... thus, the regeneration only healed his current body instead of making a new one. [10 did something similar to this before to avoid changing]
(2) Because Rick was erased from time, Rick and him never fought in the newly made timeline because there WAS no Rick, just the stuff he made left behind mysteriously... and with the Doctors timelord mind being immune to time changes, he still remembers the fight even tho it never happened

[11th doctor had to deal with this Twice i believe. Once with his Companion Rory, the other with the entire universe starting to blink out of existence]
There’s a reason why the scarf is so long. When they were making the fourth Doctor’s outfit they got a basket of yarn, gave it to a woman that they hired, and told her to make a scarf with it. But it was her first time working with a film company so she misunderstood what it was they wanted her to do. So she ended up using every last scrap of yarn that they had given her to make the now iconic scarf.
The funny part is they massively downplayed The Doctor
The Doctor has a literal explainable Plot Armor (due to him being a Time Lord that have the Universe bends around him) that makes enemies dumber and prone to mistake (like wasting time with monologue, etc) around him.
I've heard this next match will be a modern remake of the fight, and Ben Singer posted a tweet saying that they'll be compositing Dragon Ball Heroes for Goku and Infinite Frontier for Superman.
Note: I would mention that both GVS 1 & 2 were updated on the Death Battle Channel in both titles and description saying they were outdated and inaccurate. So, despite what they said back then, Ben Singer is open on doing a Re-analysis on the matchup, hopefully to fix the missteps they had in both of their previous episodes they did with these too.
I'm enlightened when you guys have a good time with these because its part of the fun knowing someone else's reason why they had fun. To see you pissed off by a battle might feel good for a while, but it's not that same as hearing a "woah! That was cool."
Well if you noticed, The Doctor used his time energy to hack rick’s gun since it’s an electronic, making it unable to shoot again so Rick only reached for the Doctor’s weapon because it was his only chance to win if he could land it, he just ended up forgetting about his portals after his escape root was cut off
I had the same exact reaction as you did on the next battle, Nate. I feel like it's going to be a repeat of the last 2 times Goku and Superman fought, but let us see.
The only upgrades I can see since last time is Ultra Instinct and Jesus Symbolism.
The regenerating part is when he has the energy coming out of his hands and head. That's the point in which you need to kill him, but the doctor had already used his screwdriver right before that point to disable Rick's weapons. While the doctor was queuing up to regenerate, Rick could have shot him as many times as he want and it wouldn't have done anything and while he was queuing up, that's when the doctor disabled his weapons.
4:20 Admittedly I too stopped watching Doctor Who during Capaldi’s era.
It’s not because I didn’t like him but at the time I was just so burnt out after so many years of watching Who I just needed a break from it.
And many years later I’ve now realised I made a HUGE mistake skipping the rest of Capaldi’s era, because I’ve gone back and overall it’s *phenomenal.* It’s so great that after counting both classic and modern shows Capaldi has become my Doctor overall.
I don't know if Capaldi is my favorite Doctor, but he's definitely got what I consider my favorite episode. "Heaven Sent" is literally just 45 minutes of the man proving that he can act his ass off. An absolutely brilliant episode.
@@josephschultz3301 God, he's featured in some incredible stories like Listen, Mummy on the Orient Express, Season 10's finale: World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls and as you said Heaven Sent which I would personally get people that have never seen the 12th Doctor before to watch as their introductory episode.
43:30 this is pretty obvious, but: the thing about the animations is that they don't determine who would win after looking at the animations; they instead determine who would win and then just come up with an interesting narrative that shows off the majority of the things they discussed beforehand for both characters, with each side appearing alternatively win, and then make the animation resolve with what they determined.
So in this moment, they didn't think "Wait what if Rick got lucky and made him regenerate, would he attack him?" but instead thought "We discussed his regeneration in multiple contexts so at some point during this fight we need to make him regenerate, and it has to be at a time that Rick is winning in order to keep tension high."

Honestly some if Xeno Goku's feats can't be used as they happened under very specific circumstances. The most they could pheasibly do is give Goku UI, SS4, SS4 Limit Breaker, and Blue Kaioken. That's it. Yeah, Goku is stronger, but in terms of forms, he hasn't gained many more. And if they try to go with giving him Universe Tree SS Blue, then it's a clear cop out to get the Goku fans to stop screaming Goku should win.

as someone who has never watched doctor who before and loves rick and morty to death, i am conflicted with this episode
i'm not UPSET with the outcome since i had a feeling that doctor who was much more OP than rick, which is an incredible feat in of itself, but i'm disappointed that we didn't get to see the full extent of their gadgets
mainly the fact that we only saw the De-Mat, the Sonic Screwdriver, TARDIS and a fucking spoon on the Doctor's part while Rick just uses his portal gun, minimal cyborg implants, the Chestburst Clone gun and his standard laser gun (along with a Crow-Tech Sword even though nothing about crow tech was mentioned nor shown in Rick's analysis)
its also really wild that they mentioned the Omega Device when only Rick Prime and Evil Morty have the schematics for it while C-137 Rick doesn't and destroyed it the first time it got built

I don't think Decoy Rick would even cooperate with Rick in the first place for that to work, but also, it would be a minor inconvenience at best. It's like the Doctor would see that the Sonic Screwdriver doesn't work and simply give up, his quick thinking would make him adapt and defeat the decoy. So it would have just a waste of time
I know a friend of mine who would have a hissy fit about Rick losing to the Doctor. He's a Rick and Morty fan while I'm a Dr. Who fan. As much as he doesn't like watching Death Battle videos, he'd have a fit if he were to see this.
Yeah uh he'd just have to suck it up I'd like to see what he would think of Rick not being able to do anything against the Daleks in the Time War or stand a chance against the Time lords in the Final sanction
@@TaunTaunTundra4477 As much as I can understand Rick is a real tough person to kill, I don't think he has much of a chance against the Time Lords, considering they've been around for centuries to millenia of years before him and it's Alien technology vs human tech. Plus, Rick lost this fight because 1) he let his ego get the best of him.
(example: Rick says, "Son of a b*tch. He's ignoring _me_ ?")
And 2) he underestimated the Doctor during the final showdown.
(Example: The Doctor pulls out the Reality Eraser gun but doesn't grab it or use it, he uses the Sonic to hack Rick's portal gun and has it fire towards his side, and times it perfectly to where he turns his back to have Rick shoot at the portal instead of himself while shouting "Alons-y!". He did all of this to bait Rick to use the Reality Eraser gun and use it against himself.)
The Doctor has fought monsters, demons, and truly evil people and has always found a way to come back on top to beat them.

You'd think Goku would learn after Resurrection F that putting the fight over the planet was risky, even with Whis giving a time do-over. Even Goku didn't see how his desire for a friendly tournament would have universe-destroying consequences. I guess Ultra Instinct and whatever was put in the new Super Mangas will play a factor.

Well, I do know later on in Doctor Who, when the doctor is on Regeneration 13, the female doctor. The doctor learned the secret of the Time the Lord's regeneration abilities came from a mysterious kid they found one day by killing the kid repeatedly just to capture the regeneration energy and that mysterious little kid who was the doctor. So really, the doctor isn't from Gallifrey. But from an unknown planet, also an unknown alien species that can live forever

Let's be honest. No matter what the outcome, the Superman vs Goku argument will never end, because people are just like that.
The reason The Doctor didn't change is because at times The Doctor can use their regeneration energy to heal themselves or others but not completely change. He more or less was just healing his wounds there.

20:41 Time Lords can only regenerate 13 times, then they 100% die. The Doctor's uncounted regenerations are John Hurt's War Doctor, and twice in Tennant's run. Matt Smith's Doctor would have died in his last Christmas special, but the Time Lords had to feed him time energy to prevent a paradox regarding a previous special. Capaldi was the start of that new run, followed by Whittaker, and we don't know how many more regenerations the Doctor can do.

Yeah, no, glad the Doctor took his much needed win. In regards to the next death battle, Superman's already going to win. Obviously. His strength is basically infinite, and Goku has limits. And if they put Superman under a blue sun, my Ultra Instincts tell me Son Goku will stand even less of a chance.

This Death Battle was good of a Death Battle it was, not gonna end up being one of personal top favorite of this season but it was still good.
I just wish they gotten a better voice actor/actors for Rick and Morty in this episode, cause there are some really great Rick and Morty impersonator on RUclips who can nail down both voices to a T, here they just sounds like cheap imitations of theirs own self.
Tbh, getting an impressionist feels... ironically enough, just as cheap as your accusation towards the actual VAs.
And besides, there's been MANY other episodes that had VAs that weren't chose cause they sound like the original VAs. It's nice if they do, but doing an impression is Verrry different from Voice Acting.
Put any impressionist in the same situation, and it would be a lot harder for them to actually record an episode.
The animation was good but the battle was very innacurate
The doctor kind of went in a bad direction after Jodie Whitaker took over. From what I heard the new writers wanted to really make their new doctor memorable, but in turn retconned a ton of lore that even effects the very first doctor as a character because it completely changes their origin and ruined some of the mystery the character still had and replaced with much more underwhelming stuff that can’t be undone as a result.
Honestly, she is one of my favorite Doctors. I felt she was a bit more compelling than others. I will say David Tennet is by far THE best Doctor to me. I would say Jodie is most likely second imo

I was so excited by the prospect of a female doctor, too. 😢 Shame they messed it up.
I think this battle would’ve worked better if the energy pouring out of the Doctor didn’t start till he said “I don’t want to go.” Basically once he’s fully initiated regeneration can he be killed, but that didn’t happen until after The Doctor destroyed Rick’s gun.
That entire plot hole would’ve been solved if they just timed it better. Like they could’ve had it start, but then the Doctor suppresses it like he’s done many times before, before hacking the gun and immediately letting it flow.
I think that was their idea, but they didn't convey that well.
The thing is, the Doctor has shown that he can hold his regeneration from starting. 5 and 12 both did this for a story, and in 5's case, that story took place over a week. 12's took place over a day or two, and in both, they were stopping it altogether.

Rick couldn't have shot him again because the regeneration hadn't actually begun yet.
he looked the same, cause erasing Rick from existence, means he now only met Morty in the ship alone, so he was never fatally shot by Rick/ Also Rick is Arrogant, and likes to boast how smart he was over his enemy.
As long as goku keeps getting new haircuts, he's gonna keep getting another rematch. That's never gonna stop considering that's literally the only way DB progresses. New villian = new hairstyle.
They recently announced on their twitter that one of the next death battles was gonna be omni man vs bardock

So I was pretty terrified at the next time. I had no idea Death Battle team was actually saying before Rick v Doc dropped that the next time would be very controversial. And tbh, I still am terrified of it. But I'm gonna put my faith in DB Team. Lets remember, Goku v Superman 2 was in season 2 which was 8 years ago. If we're being honest, that is more than enough time for a rematch between two characters. And on another note, they're slightly compositing them with other series I believe. Xeno Goku vs Infinite Superman, I believe he's termed? I know nothing of the specifics with how closer it makes the match, but it'll at least be different, and they said it will be the end of the match up on the show for good. And finally, DB Team has evolved a lot since Season 2. Like, exponentially, anyone can see that. In script writing and animation and have taken a lot of biases away from the actual episode they're making. I'm confident they can make a good episode over probably one of the most toxic match ups of all time.
So let's give them a little faith with the next time. Goku v Superman 1 at the time was flooded with hate by salty Dragon Ball fans who knew nothing of versus and couldn't just reasonably take an L over a beautifully made (for the time) animation that kept both characters in character and honorable. Its DB's magnum opus. But Goku v Superman 2 is just an objectively bad episode and I think DB Team also recognizes that and regrets the episode a little. They hype the shit out of Goku and dunk on Superman as characters to soften the blow that Goku still loses but it didn't really help anyone. Both sides lost in that episode because even Superman fans couldn't enjoy how they presented him that time around. So that episode is rightfully disliked. But again, times change and so has DB Team. Let's give them faith and let them cook, they've been in the kitchen this whole season serving us 5 star meals that we honestly don't deserve. No matter the result, we should be respectful, thats what I believe.

the slitheen got brought back in the sarah jane adventures... and were considerably scarier. among other things, they fixed the farting problem, and the requirement for fat people. and they killed at least two children for suits.
Yeah, the shooting is a common nitpick here, but, there is a reason: The Doctor is ONLY vulnerable to perma-death once he enters that fiery state you saw, not before and not after. That's why Rick tells the Doctor sarcastically to "hurry up", he's waiting for him to enter a state where he can be perma-killed. Unfortunately for Rick, the Doctor can hold off on regen with sufficient will, in this case, for just long enough as to disable Rick's gun, removing his chance to kill him for good.
He should have kept shooting the Doctor then. Or aim for his hands to make sure he doesn't use the Sonic.
Regeneration heals wounds, up to and including regrowing lost limbs, it wouldn't have helped.@@BloatedBara
@@billyweed835 exactly, he would have had to enter the stage of Regeneration where he can be permanently killed. While his limbs are regenerating Rick could have kept firing until it's over. Since his arms would have been blown off in this hypothetical, he wouldn't be able to use the Sonic, so Rick's gun would still work.
@@BloatedBara as they mentioned, Regeneration in itself is a dangerous process, and one wherein the Doctor's physical ability is enhaanced, and, given their similar speeds, how many shots could he land without the element of surprise granted by that back portal trick?
@@billyweed835 quite a lot given that the doctor couldn't dodge the first two shots and is wounded. Once he gets a few more shots in (targeting his hands or head preferably) it's over. Can't use the Sonic with no hands, still getting shot, and in a state where he can be perma killed. Plus he could only set up the back portal trick after hacking the Portal gun. Had Rick shot his hands before he pulled out the screwdriver, the second portal would never have been there.
Fun Fact about me: up until this Death Battle, i thought the whole Multiple Doctors thing was due to Reincarnation, it did never even occur to me that it was due to Regeneration.
The only explanation I have to offer for why Death Battle would be analyzing "Goku vs Superman" again is a combination of new material and changes in how the material is used in research. Similar to what happened with "Mario vs Sonic" and "Link vs Cloud". And to give another example, "Bowser vs Ganondorf" has been accused of relying on "no limits fallacy" to determine the winner. Much like "Goku vs Superman". And since Ganondorf lost when he was brought later, that "no limits fallacy" is, ironically, limited in its application.
The animation is just for entertainment. It’s not to be taken seriously as what would exactly happen so Rick not shooting the Doctor as he regenerates is irrelevant.
It's actually in character for both and makes sense. Rick canonically knows who the doctor is. Which means he also knows his weakness that he can only be killed during regen. This is why he says ''Hurry up'' he wants him to start regenerating so he can kill him.
The problem is though, he didn't anticipate doctor using the sonic screwdriver right before starting to regen and therefore lost his chance.
Gotta call up the whole squad for next time!

I stopped watching doctor who during Jodie’s second season so I’d recommend watching 9-12. She wasn’t horrible but the writing just really went downhill and became kind of cringe. I plan on watching the David Tennant specials though.

For me, it was a bit of a letdown compared to the previous episodes, but still a great episode overall. I think they could have had a bit more fun with the dimensions and time travel stuff, and had Rick use more of his weapons, but overall a great episode. Also when are Morty, Morty Jr, Beth and Summer going to be erased? If Rick was never born, they wouldn't have been either.

to be fair about Goku vs Superman, the second time was ill advised because the second time Super was in its infancy so Goku's power in Super hadn't been fully utilised so now Ultra Instinct and Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken will be things now.

And yet people stay biased and stay together with their dragon ball Nostalgia and just refuse to believe or accept that Goku lose again Superman. And the fact that people keep asking them to do a rerun for a third time of Goku and Superman.

I think everyone reacted the same way for the next time, I remember years ago they were so against the idea of Goku vs Superman 3, like they wanted to be done with Goku vs Superman, even if this ain't called Goku vs Superman 3 doesn't change anything they're doing it again. Plus regardless of who wins it's not gonna end well.
Nah, it just depends which versions of the characters you're putting against each-other. Superman at his most powerful is an untouchable omnipotent god. Whilst Goku at his most powerful (so far) destroys most depictions of Superman.

I just realized that for all the intelligence Rick has, he just kinda brute forces his way through physics. His car has an entire UNIVERSE under its hood and he gets like a fraction of a percent of the energy that could provide. His portals are uneven and messy. His gun gets hacked all the time. HE FIST FIGHTS PEOPLE! He doesnt use his unlimited intelligence to its fullest. I really think that Jerry was RIGHT in that one episode. He wastes his intelligence. Which is why Rick went through the trouble to rry and prove him wrong. Jerry made a good point and Rick responded by picking apart his grammar and doing something really, really dumb.
Don't know how Rick would know about the wood weakness, though. He's a genius, but he's not psychic. Probably wouldn't stop the Doctor anyway. Also, while I initially assumed that Rick not shooting the Doctor again was just for the sake of a dramatic sequence (as Death Battle animations emphasize coolness over one-to-one recreations of _all_ the specifics of how the fight would play out), but I did see people point out (and agree with said people) that since the Doctor was regenerating after Rick shot him, _just_ shooting him again would do nothing because his body is healing anyway. Rick might have done it with the Xenomorph thing but it doesn't matter since the fight never happened (which is also why he's still the Fourteenth Doctor while talking to Morty).
Also, for what it's worth, they're _actually_ re-doing Goku vs. Superman at this point, unlike the prior "rematch", which was just to emphasize a point and which Ben Singer now hates. Ben actually said a _long_ time ago that he was interested in doing a proper rematch, so don't be _too_ surprised.
