What an amazing makeover even without the Gilboy’s and the final fabric! I never would have looked twice at that furniture. You have the vision for old furniture just as you do for the suites!
I follow them since day one and I can’t believe they haven’t reached 200 k followers yet ! They are so talented, very creative, passionate, savvy, educated, polite, kind people who inspire many of us to follow our dreams, and to not settle for less than what we deserve. Come on, let’s follow them, they deserve it better than anyone else.
I KNEW IT! In the last video I said I bet Terry was sourcing furniture for the rooms while Ash was working on the floors. Warms my heart every time you restore a piece. Well done.
Your family sees the potential and beauty in pieces others would pass by, your dedication to hard work and inspiration is admirable. What a great bargain for the set
The chairs are so special and it’s great that there are people like you, with the talent and patience ,to bring them back to life. It’s sad we live in a throwaway world 🤗
Here’s your text with some corrections for spelling and grammar: Hi guys! Just a few tips: - The treatment of furniture for woodworm is not needed, since the woodworm larvae will dry out and die in a normal temperature living room. - When doing upholstery, you hit the webbing with the side of the hammer while stretching it out with the stretcher. This way, the fibers give a bit, and the webbing will stay tight for longer. - Fold the webbing in on itself so it's actually in three layers when you nail it. This way, you lock the ends of the webbing and divide the pressure from the nails over a bigger area. I was taught to staple the webbing when it's tight, fold it in on itself, and then nail it with 3-5 nails, depending on the size of the webbing. - The last thing is that, you are placing the webbing way too close and using about double the amount of webbing needed for each chair. Place the webbing so you have two interceting at each point there is a spring. Kind regards from a Danish furniture conservator ;)
Terry makes it look so easy! For anyone who hasn't attempted this type of furniture restoration, it is *hard.* It takes strong fingers and wrists just to remove all the tacks and nails, not to mention stretching the hessian/burlap straps. It helps if you can save the original fabric as a pattern to cut the new or it can get really fiddly really quickly. Terry made it look like it was all done in a day! If so, and I know he is experienced, he is even more of a wizard than we give him credit for. Lovely job!🪑❤
I took upholstery from a master upholsterer. He told us to fill all the tack holes with Weldbond glue which is a white glue. That way, the new tacks have something to stick into. These old furniture pieces left unglued don't have enough "meat" for new tacks to hold. Just a suggestion.
Terry and Tracy, you make everything look amazing. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us. I can't wait to see the finished set! Even better, to see them in the blue room!!! Woo Hoo!!
Did the same with my grandmother’s 100+-year-old wicker chair. I had it as a porch chair and the squirrels LOVED the old stuffing! They’d get up under it and take away bits of it and chew on the wood frame. So, during Covid I ordered new webbing, foam, batting and had some sunbrella fabric I had bought for the seat. I glued and nailed some of the pieces back together, rebuilt the webbing and retied the springs; then added the foam, the batting and then the seat cover. It looks great and the squirrels leave it alone now! It must have had about ten different coverings layer one on top of the other! It took longer to disassemble it than to rebuild it! I don’t have an electric stapler so my hand was tired after all the hand stapling the muslin and sunbrella fabric. I bring the removable seat inside in the wintertime to save it from rusting and wear and tear. The set had a setee, which I don’t know what happened to that and my brother took the rocker that went with the set. I’m thinking of painting it this coming summer to freshen it up a bit.
I LOVE IT!!! I reupholster furniture and am currently working on a set of two very old chairs full of memories from the owners they want to preserve. Parallel working to breathe new life into old treasures - me in my workshop, you in your video!
Wow Terry I can't believe this I have just watched Patrick and Stuart channel and they were upholstering a chair and here you are doing the same and it absolutely beautiful love it take care and see you all next time 💕🌼🤗
Hi folks this sofa and these chairs are beautiful and you are a genius Terry can't wait to see the fabric you chose I think your family were meant to have this beautiful Chateau and bring her back to life well done you lovely folks
Terry, wow!! You truly are a skilled artisan and able to create magic. The furniture looked beyond saving but you did it. Can't wait to see the final fabric that goes onto this magnificent piece of furniture.
I am so impressed Terry! As usual my taste and yours meet on some crazy, over the top level!! You will never hear a negative word from me regarding taste! LoL By all means keep it up Terry! I know your restored rooms will be the very best! Charlie in Illinois
@@chateaudelalacellehave you had all your windows treated ? I've seen UV Rays destroy silk, paintings and basically ruin everything and I don't want your beautiful hard work being ruined. Beautiful work, Terry! That poor chair was in a wretched condition when you acquired it- but just look at it now! Wood shining, gold leaf gleaming. Cannot wait to see it once you’ve put the new fabric and braid on it! It is now better than new. Bravo! ❤️❄️☃️
Loved watching this process, Terry! You, Ash & your Mom working together to accomplish this task & the other chair & sofa! Can't wait to see the fabric selection! Until next time, Blessings to the entire family!! 🇺🇸
Upholstery is my thing and I was delighted to see you re-upholsyered a French chair using French techniques. French webbing is much wider than English webbing and the French always close weave the webbing which you have done!! Well done!!
OMG, Terry, I can't wait to see what fabric you choose. Your prototype is looking pretty awesome. I see multi-talented Tracy has moved to the upholstery studio, too. She's a Titan among Titans! I love antique furniture. I admire you for cleaning it up and adding new fabric. My husband made "jigs" like you did for tightening the chair seat straps. Smart man Terry. what a beautiful job you did with this chair.
Terry, that was magnificent! I am refinishing a chair where the springs have popped out and you perfectly demonstrated how to do it! That was the perfect video! You are a genius! I love you guys. You made my day! Thanks❤
Do you have a few unfinished, empty rooms?? You could set up shops for the stuff in the barn. A fabric shop with cutting and sewing table and all fabrics laid out. And a chandelier shop, with all the bits laid out. A Nick knack shop too. This way, you won't miss any hurried bits and have a dedicated workspace for each category.
Terry, you are amazing. There is not much you can't do. The chair already looks amazing. One man's garbage is another man's treasure is very appropriate in this case.❤
Buying old furniture in bad shape is worth it when you put your mind to restoring it. The chair looks so amazing and even unfinished at this stage it would cost quite a bit. Good job Terry. ❤

How funny, today’s episode from Patrick and Stuart was Patrick’s first ever reupholstery project on a Chair in a similar state and wouldn’t you know it, he added touches of gilding as well! 😂
Most people never would have considered that furniture due to the condition it was in. Once again you worked your magic. Nice work Terry.
