I do not know if I am the only one that has gone through this: You hear a new Touhou song and your are like "may be, hmm, not bad. Let's leave it in a play list." Then you are working in something and you are just like "crap what is this marveolous thing! Oh yes, that one." It had happened to me in six Touhou songs, by now.
You should try getting ZUN's CDs, you can find them on the moriya shrine website, quite good, got songs like this and the soundtracks for all the original PC-98 games. There's even originals of songs we hear in later games, including Chinese tea, etc. All in all, the CDs are great.
The pc98 songs all have a much darker tone than the windows ones, which I find very enjoyable. It adds a sense of intensity to games which are already really intense.
PC-98 didnt get that much justice, but with more recent and newer technology,it migtve sounded better. But I believe the retro effect of PC-98 is what makes it extremely special and uniqie

Hands down my personal favourite used PC-98 stage theme. Bad Apple is amazing, pThe Last Judgement is wonderful, The Legend of KAGE is beautiful and Himorogi, Murasaka ni Moe is a gift unto humanity, but Alice Maestra is truly a wonder.
Ugh this is soooo good. I like to imagine this one being Reimu''s stage theme, and Dreamy Pilot being Marisa's stage theme. I know it's not true, but it would've been cool..
I've always thought Alice Maestra would be Marisa's, because y'know... Alice. But yeahh, true reason is probably because I play Reimu more compared to Marisa in LLS.
Oh my goddddd this theme is amazing. It might be my favorite PC-98 stage theme actually. Alice in Wonderland, Bad Apple and Himorogi, Burn in Violet are close though. It's just so pretty and melancholic, and that kind of combination is perfect.
I remember coming across this years after being into the Windows-era Touhou games and realizing just how many times I've heard it before in bits and pieces of fan arranges or medleys, but always thought it was multiple different songs. The melody just has so many different sections that feel "iconic" enough to have been their own song
I discovered this song in one of my first attempts in Touhou 4, which I chose to be my first PC-98 game out of pure random choice. Touhou 7's fourth stage was and remained to be my favourite stage in the series due to its length and the sheer feeling that you are moving at a long distance through the background changes along with beautiful music to tie it all together - but as soon as I heard the opening to Alice Maestra, I felt that this song was going to be great, and had loved it all the way through the incredibly unique stage. Long Touhou stages, usually stage 4s are a rare breed that I wish never died off due to my assumed backlash against them after Touhou 7.
Okay. The song's name contains Alice's name on it. Most of the stage's enemies looks like dolls. The bosses of the stage are Reimu and Marisa, both of them befriended by Alice. Yet Alice appears in Mystic Square...
Didn't alice first appeared in MS?, if you talk about possiblecameos or a foreshadow, these were just references, not allusion to an actual character. And they didn't exactly "befriend" her though, mima and reimu forced her as a servant, marisa hanged her(not suicidal of course) as a "punishment" and yuuka stalked her lol
for me... the stage's enemies kinda looks more like magicians than dolls? wait a minute... many of magicians were slaughtered by Reimu or Marisa? they actually can't respawn because they're dead... 😰
ZUN's comment about the track: "I imagined a cool-looking Western-style mansion while making this song, and it ended up turning into something I really don't understand (^^; But, I think it has an altogether different atmosphere from the the other songs... (Or maybe it's the same (^^;;;)"
Great!! I love when the 8-bit music kicks in at 0:30 :) It gives the "We’re in this together guys. We are the only ones who can defeat this bad guy. Let’s do this” type of feeling!

painovoimaton I plan to change that. In my fangame, Stage 6 will have two midbosses and several enemies at the beginning and between the second midboss and the boss.
Probably cause you're getting close to the end of the game by this point? It just sounds sad and dramatic to push you onwards imo, giving the player an exciting stimulation to not give up~
I wouldn't be surprised if ZUN either took some of his old pieces and put them into the newer ones(newer meaning 13 yrs old) or just ended up coming up with it again.
