I wonder, have you ever realized what your true calling is? You are, without question, the finest instructor I've encountered - on the Web or off. You not only speak in a language that the student can understand, you have an uncanny knack for anticipating questions that they might have. As someone with a background in corporate training, I can only encourage you to do more along these lines. You're the "natural" that only comes along once in awhile.
This series is the absolute best set of instructions on the web. The tutorials are superbly clear and easy to follow. Saxman999 has done an incredible professional job in making everything really clear. Few teachers have such great skill for presentation. All of the steps are well thought out and brilliantly explained. Congratulations and THANKS!
This is by far the best video tutorial I have seen for the EWI 4000s! I want to thank you for the effort you put into simplifying an extremely complex device and zeroing in on some of the more useful aspects of the instruments fine tuning without getting sidetracked. I rate this 6 stars out of 5 and a must see for all beginners and intermediate players!
I've watched all of these several times. Thank you so much for your thorough and detailed EWI tutorials. It made the first few weeks with my new EWI fun rather than frustrating. Again, thanks!
Hey I really appreciate these videos... I was one that almost gave up and sold my ewi but thanks to you things are going smoothly.. I play for different churches here in GA and this instrument works amazingly now again all credit.. thanks to you... and I agree with the others no pressure but Were is lesson 9!!!!!!!!!
The EWI USB requires a soft synth (computer) to be played. The EWI 4000s (used here) has its own on-board synth and you can plug it straight into an amp or use headphones. See the other tutorials in this series. In this video, he's using a computer for the purpose of editing the on-board patches, not because you need a computer to play the instrument. You can, however, use the 4000s with the same MIDI interface to control a software synth on the computer if you wish.
Thanks so much for the nice instruction on the EWI. They were very clear. I am thinking of buying one and your videos are much better than reading the manual, although I will do that also,
What's required to use the patchman soundbank? I have my 4000s, MIDI cables, and computer. Is there anything else I need to use the patchman soundbank? An interface, a sound module, or both?
I am having problems with my EWIUSB intonation. I find the there is a lot of lag between what I play to the the computer to where I can play plenty of quick scales, and it'll all replay 2 seconds later. Is there any way I can make the timing between the EWI and the computer playback instant pretty much? Not to mention, sometimes I find it very hard to mess around with the timing of my notes as I would normally on my sax if playing a jazz solo. What can I do to make the EWI more sax like?
These videos are great. These were the final confirmation that the ewi is the right instrument for me. Could I bother you with a question? When I am editing a sound everything seems to work properly. But whichever one of the "put", "sync" or "put preset" buttons I click, although the sound seems to be preserved even after disconnecting the midi cables, powering the EWI down resets the whole bank to the factory defaults. Is it something that I am doing wrong?
Meadfan, you need to download a program, usually the EWI comes with a disk that contains a not updated software. Of course previously you must buy Patchmann sounds vol. 1 ($90.00) I tried the link to psicraft and it didn't worked. Don't forget this tutorial is to old.

Excellent work Alastair. Unboxed mine today and apart from struggling a little with the EVI fingerings, you are making a lot of sense. Thank You :-)
These videos are simply excellent.
Thank you, Mr. Parnell. You are a blessing.
Thanks for the new video. Indeed, Patchman rocks!
Thanks a million for this advice, i just purchased one today, an EWI 4000s that is
Hi Alistair.
When are you going to do the next series of lesson.
Waiting with baited breath!!
Can i use the Tascam Firewire Audion/Midi/Control? FIREONE as an interface?
Very informative. Akai should employ you!
Thank you very much! I've learned a lot!

Hello! Do you need a computer to play? or can you just plug it to the mixer and play?

If you were using an ewi5000 would it work with the USB?
Yes. Should do.

The visec does not work. The donain is for sale. What else do you suggest?
Sorry. It's been years since I looked into this. Maybe someone else could help?
