Great tip on keeping a container for used flies. Thanks again for the advice!

Darn Dan, where were you when my daughter was living in Seattle for four years. I blundered around for a long time. And wouldn’t you know it, she don’t live there anymore. This is great advice and a great help. You’re da man Dan!

I was supposed to be in Tacoma today! Maybe next year.

I have been trying to figure out these SRC for a few weeks! New to fly fishing as well so I’m not exactly the best yet. You should do a video on how to spot good beaches and some of the local spots!

Thanks for the video inspiration - I will do just that!

Love your channel! What's the best time of year for SRC around here? I'm just starting to venture into the Sound for fly fishing with winter coming. Also do you have any tips on how to NOT target protected species? Regs here can be tricky.

Thanks! SRC is good all year, but particularly good in spring and the fall months. Bi-catches (accidently catching protected fish) will happen when fishing the PNW, just be mindful to carefully release unharmed and keep them in the water and you'll be good.

@@FlyFishDan Awesome! Appreciate the reply. BTW not sure if you've done this, but a video on how to be a responsible angler would be really valuable. I see so many videos of people miss-handling fish but you seem to be really thoughtful and careful in your approach. It would be good to know how you handle situations where you encounter other people poaching as well. I witnessed some guy taking a plastic bag full of native trout out of a no-take stream a while back and it made my blood boil a bit but didn't know the best way to handle the situation.

I have a 5wt, but not meant for salt. Do you think it would be OK as long as I rinse off in freshwater when I get home? Beach is 10 minutes away from my house.

That’s a tough one - even if you rinse it off immediately after - salt could start to inflict damage and over time and you’ll likely notice. If you decide to go after SRC’s often, might be worth investing and dedicating at 6wt for the fishery.

Any idea on how long my leader should be or if I could fish an indicator with it? If not is there a tempo I should strip back?

usually no indicator. I'd fish a leader about the rod length maybe a bit longer. mono butt and flouocarbon for the rest. vary the retrieve until you find out what works.

Incoming and outgoing tides are both great options, but here is a fun fact: Outgoing tends to have less seaweed

Hi Dan did you learn fly fishing as an autodidact or did you have a teacher? Greetz from Germany

Hello! My Dad introduced me to the sport, taught me a few basics and I’m self taught from there picking up tips from others along the way.
