Agree with you. Atmos is a technology that is forced into the market. I didn't hear consumers demanding atmos music. The thing is music production technology is more or less fully developed and industry is desperately trying to create new needs. Atmos shall work as a motor for new product lines in any stage of music production. It may works fine for gaming and movies. But music? A two track singer/songwriter recording in Dolby Atmos? This is excellent news, I think my dream of 'avin a pair of your mums is still a little way off but hey, seriously though stunning work on the speakers and great to have you back, their has been a PDP size hole in my life since you have been gone. On a side note one of those happy facebook marketplace accidents happened and I am now the owner of 2 pairs of AVI ADM 9.1t active digital monitors and they are so good and have me all excited like a little boy that I have to tell every random how happy I am with them.
So happy to see your faces you guys! Thanks for all the updates, and for answering my questions in Discord. I was really starting to panic about Atmos as I build my very first dedicated studio, and James talked me off the proverbial lesge. You guys rock!
Please make sure you add a screensaver to the OLED screen. Having said that.. I've used a big 4K OLED screen for years and had zero pixel fade.. but I have seen it on the tiny 1 inch screens (on $4k gear) so would be reassuring if it was there on the monitors 👍
Good to see you back! I'm sorry that our email discussion about the MUM's end of last year came to an end - I was forced into making a quick decision and decided to stay on my Amphions and buckle them up with the Neumann DSP sub, which is handling all the correction in the unit (great). Definitely still keeping my ears (and eyes) out for the new speaker design, and would be willing to get a pair from you any day if it wasn't for the slightly inconvenient shipping to Finland aspect... Anyhow, talk soon and take care!
Great to hear from you Joel! I hope you’re well and keeping very busy! I’m glad you got a solution to your monitoring! We’re shipping all over, now, so that’s a positive for the future :)
I would love in depth dsp tuning video from you guys. Wish you do it. Especially how you got the super flat super phase corrected response from the diy speakers.
Thank you for the Atmos update. I am willing to open a mastering studio in north africa and was thinking to include a dolby atmos setup, but hearing your experience made me rethink it and postpone the atmos gear acquiring. As long as the major actor (Spotify) haven't went this road, Atmos will remain "popular" in US only. Spotify is the only true worldwide available streaming platform. Cheers.
I have an ATMOS 7.1.2 system and a bunch of bluray (audio onlyand concert) disks. I firmly believe it is the future and will be around for a vary long time mainly because it is platform compatable, regardless of 2 channel headphones or anything else up to and way beyong my little setup. Up to this point music formats were not built to be compatable with almost all hardware. You bought an SACD and you were limited as to how you listened to it, (I know it was CD 2ch compatable) same with DVDA, and so on, not so with ATMOS it just works. At the moment there are a few absolutely INCREDIBLE sounding ATMOS mixes out there the best IMHO is Hans Zimmer's 2017 Prague concert, the music and video are absolutely breathtaking and stunning. It just envelops you and take you to another world. Just a beautiful awesome feeling. Very old well recorded music like The Beatles Abbey Road also sounds wonderful because great care was taken at the time and again when remastered for ATMOS by Giles Martin. However there are too many plain awful mixes like INXS, George Harrison, etc etc - but the future is bright i think......mix the original with ATMOS objects and mix down to stereo after that- great...... I'm excited anyway !!
I can not wait to build out another studio and get some PDP monitors. I just stocked up on 3-way Kali and Focals over the last few months and really cant justify swapping them out for a while, but I've been fascinated with this whole series and would love to try the MUM's out soon.
Trinnov would be wise to allow this current Nova to "link" channels on a future version, with atmos decoding, and more functions. This way people wouldn't have to take as big of a loss when buying a new unit and wouldn't have to try to sell used gear...
Well that’s bad news you won’t be releasing a kit version. I really enjoy making things myself and that would fit my likings perfectly. I hope it doesn’t mean that you won’t be releasing plans only version. As for me I’d even purchase plans with no costumer service at all, if you’re afraid of putting your logo on a product that you don’t have any idea on how well it’s built. Anyway hope I’d be able to collect enough money to purchase them.
Congrats with the speakers - looking the biz. Thoughts on Atmos.. stereo is deader than.. death isn't it? I recently purchased the latest Apple 4K TV box, mainly to play Apple Music through it (this has a better sound quality than via AirPlay - apparently). This then goes through one of the latest Marantz Cinema series AV amps into a 5.1 speaker set-up. It's not 'true' Atmos I suppose because I didn't go for the overhead/down-firing speakers (bit unconcerned with that part of a mix) saying that it is super-immersive and certainly makes stereo sound a bit last year. You can actually get a very similar result by setting your AV amp to say, Dolby surround and it will intelligently split the mix out, though unlike Atmos, rarely fires the subwoofer up. Anyway, Atmos is definitely here to stay. Really is no going back.
Dang, they look great! If I weren't already starting the process of designing a passive DIY tribute, using the same silk Bliesma tweeter/mid but with a smaller 6.5" paper cone mid-woofer, I'd definitely be interested in getting a base level pair. But it's probably best to save the real ones for those that actually do production work.. :P
Hi, nice to see you back. What's the source of the information that only Dolby Atmos mixes can appear on editorial playlists on Apple Music ? Any link to an article or something ? Thanks
Wow amazing th re-design of the speakers, I have lot of questions about the speakers and I hope we can try it out and listening on the GearFest this year…it is possible guys to contact you guys to ask for the details of the speakers? I’m mastering engineer and as everyone Atmos in music take me for surprise and I’m thinking about update my studio to Atmos and your speakers look amazing candidates for that 😊

IME, it's difficult to get the crossover network dialed-in just right with a 10" concentric midwoofer and coaxial HF unit due to the not low enough Fs of the HF unit and beaming/directivity mismatch between the two concentric drivers. In addition, the 10" midwoofer cone acts as a waveguide for the concentric HF unit, and with increased excursion to create the midbass frequencies, the large 10" cone begins to modulate the HF, resulting in increased IMD which is problematic. But this not as much of an issue if a smaller 5"-6" concentric driver is used, but it obviously will not dig as deep in the LF. I would suggest the BMS # 5CN162-HE 5" cone midrange with concentric HF compression driver tweeter in a small sealed DIY cube enclosure run active with DSP. 😉 Incredibly DYNAMIC sound at all listening levels, and with incredible imaging...especially in regards to focus, separation, and Depth/Layering. These are what I'm using as my current DIY active DSP Studio Monitors, but in a 3-way design combined with the excellent Ciare # HW251N 10" midbass drivers to cover the LF. These replaced my ATC SCM25A in my home studio (saxophonist & drummer/percussionist) for about 1/3 the cost (including the DSP & amplifiers), and I have no regrets selling the ATCs. I designed and built these about 1.5 years before both the Purifi and BlieSMa drivers that are used in the MUM-8's were available...and I now use those same MUM-8 Beryllium drivers and the Purifi midwoofers in one of my high-end active DSP car audio systems. 😊 But the DIY BMS/Ciare studio monitors hold their own and are Dynamically more capable than the BlieSMa/Purifi combination. You could use the BMS concentric drivers in "standalone mode" in the simple cube enclosures, and then add a modular LF midbass/bass cabinet for a "full-range" solution. WIN-WIN. Just know that you will definitely need active DSP control of the filter networks between the Midrange & HF units in the BMS concentric drivers.
I loved reading the hate you got on message boards for having no clue how to design speakers, let alone ATC killers, as your first DIY project. It made me realize that forums are dominated by men who exited the mating pool.
Oh ‘ello. So… as someone who loves Atmos for home cinema, and understands music as a mostly stereo concept (listener facing band or orchestra, not in the middle of the action), I have a certain trepidation when it comes to atmos for music. So how do you see this all (ahem) panning out? Sensitively used to give better separation between instruments and a properly immersive and (please god) subtle reverb, or are we to expect wurlitzers whirling around our heads? Are people mixing in expectation of systems with a great stereo pair at the front and smaller speakers for surrounds+height? Or will those home cinema choices come to haunt atmos for music? Or am I way off in the weeds here?
That would make it a much more reasonable price than the current one for Atmos would be… this one at least puts in in the realm of reality for a stereo correction
@@PresentDayProduction LOL, "Wrong Audience & Customer Base"??? A large percentage of the loudspeakers they both test and review are "Studio Monitors"...from the little Neumann KH80, to the various Kali Audio range, Genelecs, Dutch & Dutch 8C, Bruno Putzey's Kii Audio THREES...and more. Erin has already tested the full range of Purifi drivers and is a fan of them. You'd probably see your MUM-8 sales go through the roof if you sent them in and they measured at least reasonably well! And they both have a good set of ears as well. AND, if "that audience" felt that they needed some slight tweaks, it's obviously quite easy considering the use of the Hypex DSP in the MUM-8! Erin especially is an expert at using DSP, and "tuning" DSP crossover networks, T/A, and PEQ to integrate multi-way active speaker systems. He's been doing it for nearly 15 years now. He probably could have sorted out the X/O networks for you in an afternoon. 😜 Plenty of the members on both of those sites/channels buy and use Studio Monitors. Are you saying that you are manufacturing these MUM-8 monitors and in business to NOT make more sales and NOT make a profit??? 🤷♂️ FYI, Kali Audio created a "Home Audio" version of their popular LP-6 studio monitors that is called the MM-6, and they are selling a crapload of them. I've been using this same combination of BlieSMa Beryllium drivers with the Purifi midwoofers in one of my high-end car audio systems for almost 1.5 years. The crossover networks and DSP are handled by a high-end 8-in/12-out Audiotec-Fischer HELIX DSP ULTRA, and multi-channel amplification is via Hypex Ncore amplifiers from Biketronics/Vivid Amps for 12vdc applications.
Sooo... In theory, could you buy the 3 way cabinet, with the original cheaper woofer, with no mid driver. With say just a blanking plate over the hole... And add that later? As I understand it, the bass unit is in it's own enclosure. And the mid and bass are sealed. So it should be possible? Sorry for being a cheep ass... But I'm a peasant lol. In line please... I just think it looks better XD
Our new cabinets do not have the correct diameter rebate for the old style bass driver as we plan on only ever selling the Purifi woofer version, for performance reasons. So, the Dayton Audio drivers literally won’t fit any longer. The Purifi’s are much more expensive, but incredibly more accurate and have far lower distortion.
@@PresentDayProduction OK, no worries. Thanks for getting back to me, I love your channel guys! So... What about the mid driver thing? Would that be a possibility?
@@PresentDayProduction Sorry dude. So get the 3 way cabinet. But just have the tweeter and the bass unit. And have a blanking plate over the mid driver hole. That way, it can be upgraded later on from a 2 way system, into a 3 way system?
Is it technically possible? Yes. But would it be worth it? Probably not. The performance of a woofer and tweeter alone is better suited to the 6.5” woofer and tweeter combo found in the MUM-6
These are so large that listening triangle needs to be large as well, otherwise the directionality of the tweeter (high frequencies are inherently more directional) will cause issues in the listening position (shooting over your head if you're too close) and also the comb filtering will become issue if there's large difference in the distances from each element, which is pronounced at shorter distances from the speaker. So yeah... until I have 40m^2 listening space, I'll be using Genelecs :)
They’re not much larger than most midfield monitors - 520mm H x 256mm W x 380mm D :) We have clients using them in quite close proximity and are producing some great mixes using them, likewise with clients using them further afield!
Who cares about Apple Playlist? The biggest music streaming platform is RUclips. Even TikTok streams more music than any Apple Music service. Atmos is like 3D glass communism, we know how it all ended. 🙃
Sorry but I hate Atmos and Dolby as the first is nothing more than Klipsch taking the tech from Mirage when it was in Canada. It's drivers are crap and the positioning is absolute WRONG (Go to a great music hall like Omaha's Orpheum Theatre which has amazed performers for decades, and the Tempe, AZ Hall with the Old and New showing the newbies how to actually listen to music live first. Crap hardware of too many pieces of crap make something worse than crap and unless you have over $1 million dollars for just a listening room and upgrades to erase standing waves and break up room rectangular problems, scrap the entire line. Dolby was an idiot in their day and shaved off the top end to 5k and then the nuances of music disappeared and that is why one of the reasons vinyl crushes digital
The speaker is very different from the one we initially announced and promised for, it’s an entirely different product with different intentions than the original
Proud owner of the MUM-8's, I've been having a blast working on these things!
I chose them over the ATC SCM45A Pros after demoing both

But the DIY BMS/Ciare studio monitors hold their own and are Dynamically more capable than the BlieSMa/Purifi combination.
What would it take to ship a pair of mums to Serbia? Thanks
Email us at info@presentdayproduction.com and we can give you all the info :)
Hey guys, where is the Interview with stanislov from bliesma?
It needs re-recording
On your experience with Atmos I laugh my head off. Runs as expected.
YEAH!!!
Yooo send the speakers to ASR
When we can afford to, yes there is a list of people we’d like to send these to
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT AUGSPURGER VS ATC VS ADAMS AUDIO S LINE OR ADAMS AUDIO S3H VS S5H
What's the shop link?

I loved reading the hate you got on message boards for having no clue how to design speakers, let alone ATC killers, as your first DIY project. It made me realize that forums are dominated by men who exited the mating pool.
I enjoyed reading it too… then enjoyed proving them wrong!
Would like plans for the MUMs, is this a possible share?
Why the face for adat? :P
Discord server the future 2 days : 💣🔥🚨☄🧨👩🏻🚒🚀🏎☠
I just don’t like atmos tracks via my AirPods at all tho
I wish i didn't have to join a discord to know the pricing range, who knows if it's in my pricing range
Join our email list instead :)
We aren’t publicly releasing the speakers until July, hence no public pricing yet
@@PresentDayProduction just did for the email, but not even a price bracket ? Would be nice.
We’ll be sending out all this info very soon. (The prices are changing hence no data on here.)
do you think you can add multiple nova's to correct a Atmos setup?
We’d love to find out and will share details when we do!
That would make it a much more reasonable price than the current one for Atmos would be… this one at least puts in in the realm of reality for a stereo correction
That’s what the D-Mon is for. More channels is more money 😊
You guys should send your PDP MUM-8 to Amir from Audio Science Review and Erin from Erin's Audio Corner for evaluation.
Completely the wrong audience and intended customer base for us unfortunately…
@@PresentDayProduction
LOL, "Wrong Audience & Customer Base"???
Plenty of the members on both of those sites/channels buy and use Studio Monitors. Are you saying that you are manufacturing these MUM-8 monitors and in business to NOT make more sales and NOT make a profit??? 🤷♂️
FYI, Kali Audio created a "Home Audio" version of their popular LP-6 studio monitors that is called the MM-6, and they are selling a crapload of them.
Flop Cat looks as interested in....well doing something , as Mark does in learning about setting up an up-to-date remote control.😾😾😾
Can you clarify what you mean regarding the mid?
@@PresentDayProduction
Sorry dude. So get the 3 way cabinet. But just have the tweeter and the bass unit. And have a blanking plate over the mid driver hole. That way, it can be upgraded later on from a 2 way system, into a 3 way system?
Is it technically possible? Yes. But would it be worth it? Probably not. The performance of a woofer and tweeter alone is better suited to the 6.5” woofer and tweeter combo found in the MUM-6
helll yeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaah boiiiiiiiissssssss
JAMIEEEEEE is alive! He survived!
Woooooooo
These are so large that listening triangle needs to be large as well, otherwise the directionality of the tweeter (high frequencies are inherently more directional) will cause issues in the listening position (shooting over your head if you're too close) and also the comb filtering will become issue if there's large difference in the distances from each element, which is pronounced at shorter distances from the speaker.
So yeah... until I have 40m^2 listening space, I'll be using Genelecs :)
They’re not much larger than most midfield monitors - 520mm H x 256mm W x 380mm D :)
We have clients using them in quite close proximity and are producing some great mixes using them, likewise with clients using them further afield!
Listening distance for these would be based on the summation of the midrange and tweeter. I see no issue with using at say 1m.
We have people using them at 1m, and people using them at 5m, and all our customers are reporting great performance!
People don't even listen to stereo on a proper setup.
Sorry Atmos is always going to be crap it spoils music
Disappointed you guys didn’t drop the schematics
Like you could have with a heavy disclaimer or something, even if I just wanted to see the reasoning behind certain choices for consideration
The speaker is very different from the one we initially announced and promised for, it’s an entirely different product with different intentions than the original
@@PresentDayProduction oh yeah but I was yapping bout the original one that u made hella long videos for
@@PresentDayProduction like it kinda feels like a copout after you said you would drop more information later
Not a cop out, but rather a better product. The performance of the original design has been far beaten by the newer design
