  • We finally recovered the lost GoPro footage from Hell Hole! These tunnels were TOO TIGHT. Check out this POV footage from Russ' camera. Alongside Jonesy, Russ and Kevin Bull (Kevin The Bull) adventured some 300 feet into the notorious Santa Cruz Hell Hole. This adventure takes place in December 2019. Please DO NOT GO HERE. The cave may become unstable and collapse. The chutes are tight and can be very slippery. Stay Jonesin!

    I’m thinking a xanax and a joint and I’d at least climb down to the party room. Then I’m out. Whoever explored this cave first is a savage.

    I caved the ‘hell hole’ numerous times during my college days in 1987-1989. It was called IXL Cave back then, although it did have the nickname ‘hell hole’. The unsightly concrete structure at the cave entrance wasn’t there back then. Some of our explorations took up to 6 hours in that cave. I assume similar times on your trip

    • @StayJonesin
      @StayJonesin  3 года назад +2

      Exactly! That’s how I found the map. IXL Cave.

      JeffsandLucy are old school talent which I welcome.
      I've moved on to both locate undiscovered caves and
      explore same. Which in my county mostly occur in
      ice, lava, and limestone. IXL: Cave is about 1,200 miles
      distant but I do visit Santa Cruz using a Suzuki DR-650.
      For limestone cave discovery not found in Cave Gulch.
      Ditto, lava, found within the Modoc National Forest .

      Yes 😀 We currently live in Thailand now, and have been exploring caves in Krabi province, one of which we had the privilege of mapping. Krabi is like cave Disneyland - limestone Karst mountains and caves in every direction

    • @jcee2259
      @jcee2259 2 года назад

      IXL could be better. What it lacks is
      people to make it so. Partnered
      with land management to purge
      illicit use of state property. UCSC
      or State Park property extent. As
      they share the karst at issue. I'm
      not a La-la Land resident and my
      immediate interests include Canada.

    • @jcee2259
      @jcee2259 2 года назад

      There is more Santa Cruz County karst
      than as known within Cave Gulch. As
      a cave entry I first saw in 1962 and
      did not explore until 1964 when with
      the National Speleological Society.
      Still said to be one of the longer caves
      of California. Now having a resident
      caretaker paid to halt unauthorized
      entry. I've done better elsewhere.
      Have land management permission
      to explore speleology resources up
      State Highway 9 out of Santa Cruz..

    Their are rumors that this tunnel connects to other major tunnels that lead to the college campus right next to the site an can also lead to the ocean. I live here in sc an no one knows if its true or not. Would be pretty cool to see someone concur the hell hole.

      The cave is mapped out at 2200 ‘ of passage. Yes there is a large cave system under the campus but the entrance was destroyed during construction of the university. There’s quite possibly some connection but the lower cave is really tight and all the leads are for very slender cavers with nerves of steel. There are no caves that connect to the beach. Caves are formed in marble. There’s a sandstone transition that would make development impossible. In addition don’t go in Empire Cave because it had bad air which can easily kill you. IXL ( hellhole) has many solution holes that ventilate the cave
