What a bloke. Grew up watching him and always thought he was a gun.
To talk that openly and honestly about his struggles is something to commend. Hope he continues to go well in life.

I've watched Footie shows all my adult life but this 12 minutes with Todd Carney was as important viewing as anything i've ever seen. A young man who has found his answers. He didn't blame any one! also reflected on how close if he continued his behaviors he was to losing everything.
Good luck to you and your young family.
    Spectacular Todd Carney Well done!

Good on you boys for creating a space for one of the most talented players to play the game, who loved the game and loves his family. No one is perfect but for him to open up and speak about his whole life journey to being the man , the father and partner he is today was so inspiring and a beacon of humility.

It's easy to laugh and snigger at Todd Carney, as he has done some pretty stupid things, while inebriated, as a public figure.
But he has owned it, and by bravely speaking out he is helping others, and being a positive role model.
He never hurt anybody, and he paid a huge price (much bigger than some) for his foolish antics, and deserves credit now, for turning his life around, and bring a positive role model for those school kids, and his son.
    Loved this interview.

This is what happens to young players that are brought in, that are still kids and are too young, without those important life lessons under their belt. It has happened to other great players over the years other than just Todd - Julian O'Neill was another example of a player that went down this very dark path as well. In these situation, the NRL should in part, hold some responsibility and be to blame, for not providing some kind of "Mentoring Program" for these young kids, so they can be educated and learn these lessons so they can be kept on the straight and narrow.

Its unfortunate that after all this time this is all he's asked about, get over it, it happened its over, he's addressed it.
But no, it gets dragged up over and over again and its now the only thing anyone wants to talk about.
Its starting to feel like the ex prisoner who gets employed by the jail to go and speak to the fresh inmates to tell not to do what he did, and the ex prisoners entire life from then on becomes consumed by the thing he probably wants to just move on from but he ends up constantly talking about how he just wants to move on from it for the rest of his life so never actually moves on at all.

Todd, just stay off the drink. That’s it brother, but it’s a time equation. In time, prove to yourself that you are stronger than the grog. You then become, healthy and on it, and a beacon of light for those coming behind. Life, there is no replay……. Don’t waste any more…..
