“This Is What Happens When You Don’t Listen To Experts!” Rwanda Law Disapplied In Northern Ireland

  • A judge has ruled that provisions of the UK’s Illegal Migration Act should be disapplied in Northern Ireland, as they undermine human rights protections guaranteed in the region under post-Brexit arrangements.
Mr Justice Humphreys also said aspects of the Act were incompatible with the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak vowed to appeal over the ruling and insisted the court judgment will not derail or delay his Rwanda scheme.
Talk’s Julia Hartley-Brewer is joined by UK immigration lawyer Harjap Singh Bhangal to discuss the topic further.
Harjap says: “This is what happens when you don’t listen to experts, as this Government claims it did not want to do anymore.”

The Irish position has been to protect the GFA. If you think that peace should have been given up on due to Brexit, then let's remind ourselves what the Brexit campaigner said about NI. They said it wasn't an issue and technology would solve everything. Here we are nearly 8 years after the vote and such technology does not exist. NI voted against Brexit.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. It's pointless to go after the gangs because others will take their place. While there's people who want to come here, the gangs will exist to facilitate that. You have to create a deterrent and make them not want to come here. If Rwanda is the best idea they have, then Rwanda it is. But they have to get it going and start sending people over.
