Soooooooo what do you think? Its not for me but I could see it being decent for some people for sure. Either way I think camera companies should be listening to people more on what to implement in their cameras so this was a great step forwards.
Canon started „EOS Webcam Utility Beta“ for using some cameras as webcam too 😉 I‘ve tried it with my 6D MK II and it‘s really good if you are in your home-office, especially right now I use it a lot for meetings and calls.
deepak.sehgal001 kumar here is the link to the utility, there are all supported cameras listed at the end of the page www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/self-help-center/eos-webcam-utility/
The built-in audio is surprisingly good. I am impressed! A 1" sensor makes a ton of sense for video because you can still blur out the background while having some flexibility to move back and forth in the frame without losing focus. Micro Four Thirds is pretty good for that as well. With current firmware, my Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II is actually a killer vlogging camera. I think full-frame vlogging is kind of silly.
It’s a shame that it crops to roughly 30mm just to achieve stabilization that the G7X II already has. I don’t like the muddy image either. It could have been near perfect. You were supposed to be the chosen one!
Ohhh exciting! We use a basic entry level DSLR and really like the image quality as relative beginners but for travel days this would be nice and convenient!
Matti, you have done so much for us small RUclips creators. I use many of your concepts for my mountaineering videos I create. Thank you for everything!
Thank you for the honest review! I love the stabilisation and autofocus + defocus that you demonstrated. I've seen a video of this Sony ZV-1 in night/low light footage with a gimbal and it's pretty impressive for its size.
I'm still trying to find a good review of the ZV-1 for indoor vlogging. Seems like everyone with a test model ran outside as soon as they opened the box.
1:02 : not talking about the input 3.5mm mic jack (and that it is on the opposite shoulder of the screen so it doesn't block the view or the articulation), probably one of the most important features, CHECK ! ❌
Would you suggest this over an Iphone 11 Pro Max? I have a sony a6600 that I use as a studio camera and just sold my a6400, which was for vlogging and bought the iphone 11 pro max.
Just watched this after purchasing the camera and wow, I’m glad I did! This video was awesome. Never seen your videos before but you earned a subscriber 👍
All my peeps are showing this camera this morning and now you all have me wanting it. I’m looking to upgrade from my phone for my channel and I have no idea how to use a camera.
I haven't worked out why phones don't overheat when filming 4k / 8k but compact cameras tend to burn up. not sure if its the processor or lack of ram... who knows.. needs to be resolved as it is an issue across most cameras in excessive heat (25+) which stops them from being true utilitarian.
Surprisingly, I actually really liked the quality! I’m a full on film maker and for some reason I don’t think I would completely hate using that camera (for vlog purposes of course)
Talk about RUclipsrs not having anything else to do...Matti, Sara, and Sean all have reviews on Sony ZV-1! For a starting RUclipsr it seems just a tad bit expensive for the newbies. I'm really excited that all of the RUclips world is going crazy for the ZV-1!!! Great video!!! 😀
Audio is actually pretty good (listened with headphones on). No wind rumble whatsoever. It's a little tinny (cutting out the lower frequencies) but 100x better than other on-board mics I've dealt with.
This fits very well with what I am looking for. Fast lens, compact size - I was considering the RX100vii or RX100va, but this thing looks just right! Also, super interesting that your thermostat is in Fahrenheit instead of Celsius.
Hi, what do you think is the best setting for someone that makes build and how to videos on RUclips are? I record with a lot of hand and body movement and I want the shots to look clear without the camera going crazing on trying to focus in and out on my movements. When the camera does stuff like that, I get a some recordings of focus in and out blurs. What is your suggestion for a more clear shot with body and hand movement? Thank you.
To see it positively: like you said, it might work for some people. From what I’ve seen so far the video quality is just not what I’m used to. There’s better options out there I think. Thank you for your honest review!
Hi Matti. One question. I am decided make video using Canon EOS R . But videos that i record are too shaky. Lens is Sigma 35mm dg hsm art (No IS). Do you have any advice for me? I experienced that you using this camera and lens. thank you
The highlights are totally blown out in all footage. But it might me a nice addition for some vloggers. I would rather buy a A6xxx - the price difference is not that big ... Did you check the build-in ND?
Hey Matt, do you think it's superior to a flagship Apple, Huawei or Samsung smartphone on a gimbal for taking on the go video indoor or outdoors? Thanks!
Thank you for this review. I am about to start vlogging for the first time, so I bought it as a beginner camera to get rolling. I appreciated your honesty. I do wish the lens was wider, I guess I'll get on the torture racks to start stretching my arms. Noone needs my face in their grill that hard. Many thanks.
You can't put ND filters on it though :( An auto ND filter like in cinema cameras would be pretty cool (if that was even possible in compact cameras) That handle thing looks 🔥🔥 though!
This was great, thank you! Can you expound on 8:05, re they plan on making this for use as a webcam... do you mean that's something they'll do on their side and when they do we can use this one, or do we wait for the next model? Thanks! Have a great day! Hi from Canada.
Hey matti, Is that camera any good for short film making due to having all that pictures profiles? And what was that "(like "rolling shutter) at 5:56??
nice video sir! how long the fully charged battery last? can i connect external power supply and continue recording? is there limitation in continious recording?
How is it for B-roll? All the youtubers, who have reviewed it, have only focused on the V-logging. I was hoping you, as a cinematographer, would test it for B-roll as well. Because, since it it not a wide lens, then you need to show your environment in another way, like b-roll. Could you make a small B-roll clip to showcase it?
Great review. The good thing is the auto depth of field. But I love my Lumix G7. Even tho it's a smaller sensor the sound, image with added lens, flip screen, all is great. And discreet.
I can always tell when an NDA drops 'cause my RUclips home page is filled with reviews of the same product, haha. The Active stabilization on this thing obviously doesn't have a Kai setting.
That checklist part though!! I love it! The microphone does a great work, and I love the VHS vibe that the zoom gave. 😅😂 As usual, a lovely review and outro with Kai.
Matti Haapoja me and my boys are trying to start a vlogging youtube channel but don't have a camera are you tryna bless us with this camera? would be much appreciated!
Aiming at grabbing a used GH5 soon. Anyone have a cheaper and weather sealed alternative for 4k60p? I have a Osmo pocket, but clients dislike it until they see the final de noised product because of its size .
That button doesn't create artificial blur like smartphones. It's basically a camera-illiterate help button; it changes the f/stop to the lowest possible at the focal length you're at and then compensates for the sudden brightness by lowering your other settings. So in direct sunlight like how most of the video was shot at, you'd need to remember to enable your ND filter (integrated in the camera) or else it'll basically force ur shutter speed to be faster, making you lose motion blur. At least that's how I believe it's working :P Could be wrong tho, but probably not.
Been keen to see this camera. Thanks Matti. I currently have a G7X mk2, I reviewed the mk3, I'm not sure I would buy it though... This looks like I could switch on my upgrade. I hope the user interface is good. Otherwise, I think they have ticket 90% of the boxes (excluding wider lens and usbc)
Hey guys if anyone can help I’d appreciate it. I record videos on my iPhone 8+ but experience overheating and audio drift. I’m done 🤦🏻♂️ I have a fujifilm xt30 but it only records 10 mins clips at 4K. Should I get an atamos ninja v and an ssd or should I check out the new Sony zv1? Opinions please!
Late to the video by 2y, but I'm considering adding one of these to my gear kit. I very much enjoy your vids, but was annoyed by the 'I'd never use this but ...' language. Comes off as I'm-too-pro-and-reviewed-this-just-for-clicks. The ZV1 is the evolution of the RX100 series, and for a 1" sensor camera, it does a pretty great job. The 3-capsule mic is undoubtedly a mid-side mic arrangement, which is a way to give a mono-compatible 'stereo' image to directional sound. The ZV1 is sharper in 1080p than the APSC sensor equipped ZVE10. Glad the f1.8 lens is back, though I also like the RX100M7's 200mm reach. Compromises need to be made :) I like small gear, and the 1" sensor can happily supply social content or streaming content. Thanks for reviewing!
Thanks so much for the honest review. Most RUclipsrs who reviewed this camera only had praises and as a noobie I want to know everything since it is pretty expensive for a starter camera. But as you said, if you don't know much about filming and you are starting out its a great choice.
A 1” sensor puts me off, but, I think it could be a nice wee video camera. The sound is good, as far as we can hear, so no wind noise... Hopefully. The price, not heard what it'll cost in Scotland but I suspect it'll be tooooo expensive.
Soooooooo what do you think? Its not for me but I could see it being decent for some people for sure. Either way I think camera companies should be listening to people more on what to implement in their cameras so this was a great step forwards.
The colours feel a bit like they're from an iPhone but the rest looks really great!
Gonna watch it now and tell you my opinion 😉
Ditto, not really for me, I’d love to be able to use a smaller camera but just can’t. Field of view my biggest gripe !! But good steps forwards
If it's not for you, send it on over...haha. Looks alright for the average vlogger/RUclipsr. Depending on price...
Mmmmm not for me. Field of view is a deal breaker !! I have a big bald head under normal circumstances 🤪
The audio is pretty decent actually
Canon started „EOS Webcam Utility Beta“ for using some cameras as webcam too 😉
I‘ve tried it with my 6D MK II and it‘s really good if you are in your home-office, especially right now I use it a lot for meetings and calls.
is this function work in canon eos 700d ? bcoz i have it
deepak.sehgal001 kumar here is the link to the utility, there are all supported cameras listed at the end of the page
www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/self-help-center/eos-webcam-utility/
6:46 I'm actually impressed with the wind reduction.
How do you hook this up to your computer for gaming and streaming? USB to a USB port on your computer or does it connect through a video card?
It’s a shame that it crops to roughly 30mm just to achieve stabilization that the G7X II already has. I don’t like the muddy image either. It could have been near perfect. You were supposed to be the chosen one!
Ohhh exciting! We use a basic entry level DSLR and really like the image quality as relative beginners but for travel days this would be nice and convenient!
suddenly I see 10 videos in my subscription box about the new Sony
Jonathan Stütz haha same😂
@@NiklasJuritsch Sames. Seems everyone did it!
Me too🤣🤣
shills, shills everywhere.
Matti, you have done so much for us small RUclips creators. I use many of your concepts for my mountaineering videos I create. Thank you for everything!
hey matti. do you think we need different cameras depends on what we are going to shoot?
What about the stabilization for shooting regular video? No vlogging.
Thank you for the honest review! I love the stabilisation and autofocus + defocus that you demonstrated. I've seen a video of this Sony ZV-1 in night/low light footage with a gimbal and it's pretty impressive for its size.
Finally, there is someone who gives disadvantages and advantages of using it. Thank you so much
I'm still trying to find a good review of the ZV-1 for indoor vlogging. Seems like everyone with a test model ran outside as soon as they opened the box.
Did you find any Mike? I'm looking for that too.
I was looking for the same thing. I did find this one that had some indoors: ruclips.net/video/P6lg7TGNBPU/видео.html
TangoCat303 gene Niagara aka PotatoJet filmed in his studio with this camera in his review. It holds up decently.
Most negatives can be fixed in the settings, such as focus speed, etc
How do you think it would be full loud situations? Do you think it would distort badly during loud live music for example?
You can actually turn down the softness in the settings.
You can shoot normal slomo with the camera! Only the superslomo is limited to 5 seconds!
Check out how potato jet used the defocus feature for product showcasing... works pretty amazing.
The end was my favourite part. Your son is the cutest! 🤩
I haven't worked out why phones don't overheat when filming 4k / 8k but compact cameras tend to burn up. not sure if its the processor or lack of ram... who knows.. needs to be resolved as it is an issue across most cameras in excessive heat (25+) which stops them from being true utilitarian.
I think its because, there are different versions of 4k, phones probably have a lower quality 4k than cameras 😁
Surprisingly, I actually really liked the quality! I’m a full on film maker and for some reason I don’t think I would completely hate using that camera (for vlog purposes of course)
Needed to have the product showcase spoke about in this, its awwwwesome!
Kai was so cute holding that camera. Can’t wait to see his vlogs 👍🏼
“I would love a camera like that” i thought to myself before hearing the price and deciding i really dont need it xp

When the camera does stuff like that, I get a some recordings of focus in and out blurs. What is your suggestion for a more clear shot with body and hand movement? Thank you.
I would definitely buy this camera. Definitely is a nice little package. Only if it didn't have that overheating issue.
Feel like the cam is nice, but the lens choice is kind of off... Vlog cam with a 24mm?
To see it positively: like you said, it might work for some people. From what I’ve seen so far the video quality is just not what I’m used to. There’s better options out there I think. Thank you for your honest review!
I wish it had a bit wider frame, it feels weird being so close to Matti and not seeing the environment as much
I have the Sony RX 100 VI , should I buy this one or no need to????
What do you think regarding specs ? is it better , worse or the
same ???
What about a review of the Sony RX100 VII marketed as a 'pro' camera alternative?
Hi Matti. One question. I am decided make video using Canon EOS R . But videos that i record are too shaky. Lens is Sigma 35mm dg hsm art (No IS). Do you have any advice for me? I experienced that you using this camera and lens. thank you
I have watched so many videos on this camera. This is by far the best.
Would you recommend the ZV-E10 over this Sony ZV-1? Love your videos!
When it comes to quality, I honestly prefer the a6100. There are new autofocus and depth of field features in this one though.
The highlights are totally blown out in all footage. But it might me a nice addition for some vloggers. I would rather buy a A6xxx - the price difference is not that big ... Did you check the build-in ND?
Hello Sir, great review. Could you tell us if the visuals were straight off the camera or were they color graded/treated? Thanks!
hi! i know we can't travel now, but just wondering if cameras like ZV-1 can be carried in the plane?
Hey Matt, do you think it's superior to a flagship Apple, Huawei or Samsung smartphone on a gimbal for taking on the go video indoor or outdoors? Thanks!
Did you change the zoom speed to fastest via menu?
that made a difference.
So what do you use now when you need a small set up?
Great video, I love the product showcase mode 👍
Thank you for this review. I am about to start vlogging for the first time, so I bought it as a beginner camera to get rolling. I appreciated your honesty.
I do wish the lens was wider, I guess I'll get on the torture racks to start stretching my arms. Noone needs my face in their grill that hard.
Many thanks.
Definitely a tight focal length; It's probably better for most to use an extendable tripod for this camera, that's what I would do if I had the ZV1
so many informative reviews about this great camera coming out at the same time! Must be a huge one ! I think I gonna buy a nikon now...
You can't put ND filters on it though :(
An auto ND filter like in cinema cameras would be pretty cool (if that was even possible in compact cameras)
That handle thing looks 🔥🔥 though!
Canon g7x series has in-built ND filter :)
This camera has built in nd filter. I guess he forgot to mention
it has an ND built in, he didnt mention it
There are also full nd and cpl kits for this camera.
@matti when you say to "us" at the beginning of the video, it really felt that I am also a vlogger even though not yet started vlogging.
Does anyhow have battery problems or it not lasting long with this camera?
nice video sir! how long the fully charged battery last? can i connect external power supply and continue recording? is there limitation in continious recording?
@MattiHaapoja is there an app that controls ZV-1 that you can achieve the same control as the vlogger stick?
How is it for B-roll?
All the youtubers, who have reviewed it, have only focused on the V-logging. I was hoping you, as a cinematographer, would test it for B-roll as well. Because, since it it not a wide lens, then you need to show your environment in another way, like b-roll.
Could you make a small B-roll clip to showcase it?
How is the low light and night time shooting? What’s the max ISO setting?
Looks interesting man, gonna enjoy watching this I can’t wait to travel and make a video again
do i have to wait for some update to use this camera as webcam? coz i dont see it
Thank you for the review. How are the stills on this camera?
Great review. The good thing is the auto depth of field. But I love my Lumix G7. Even tho it's a smaller sensor the sound, image with added lens, flip screen, all is great. And discreet.
I can always tell when an NDA drops 'cause my RUclips home page is filled with reviews of the same product, haha. The Active stabilization on this thing obviously doesn't have a Kai setting.
Only me potato jet and matti upload at the same time. Hahaha and it’s about the same thing😂😂😂😂 and what’s inside i think they planed it???
That checklist part though!! I love it! The microphone does a great work, and I love the VHS vibe that the zoom gave. 😅😂 As usual, a lovely review and outro with Kai.
Can you show us how to do portait pictures on Sony zv 1 plz?
Always happy to see the little guy ❤️
Great review btw
Matti how can we get hold of that camera?! Love your channel, best on youtube!
Matti Haapoja me and my boys are trying to start a vlogging youtube channel but don't have a camera are you tryna bless us with this camera? would be much appreciated!
We're in high school so we don't have money for a camera.
That focal length is way too close. Why would they go with 24mm?
Hey Matti. What lens are you using with the EOS R during this video?
Aiming at grabbing a used GH5 soon. Anyone have a cheaper and weather sealed alternative for 4k60p? I have a Osmo pocket, but clients dislike it until they see the final de noised product because of its size .
Are you using the UGE soft box
Best review on youtube so far of this camera 👏🏼
Looks good for a 1 inch sensor. Did you test the image quality for stills?
I just want a new A7s
and the new a1
what happened to the film festival??? results were supposed to be out today!
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK MAN ! AND THANK YOU FOR INSPIRING US 🔥
24mm is tricky, vlogging needs that ultrawide feel!
Very cool camera. Looks great for beginners 👍🏼
Looks like a pretty solid B cam .....best thing is the floppy screen.
Audio is really good! Definetly a better option than a Rebel!
I would love a review and comparison from you on this and Sony Xperia 1 mark II.
Does the bacckgroud defocus work on the sowtware level, like even at midday under direct sunlight, it can still blur the BG?
That button doesn't create artificial blur like smartphones. It's basically a camera-illiterate help button; it changes the f/stop to the lowest possible at the focal length you're at and then compensates for the sudden brightness by lowering your other settings. Thanks Matti, great review as always !!

Out of all RUclipsrs making a video on this camera, I clicked on your video first! Keep up the great content!
i think fuji listened too, adding ibis to their smaller XT line and adding a flip screen :)
A 1” sensor puts me off, but, I think it could be a nice wee video camera. The sound is good, as far as we can hear, so no wind noise... Hopefully.
The price, not heard what it'll cost in Scotland but I suspect it'll be tooooo expensive.
Is this foreshadowing of the flipout screens in Alpha series? 🤔
would Sony RX100M7 make any difference comparing with iPhone 11 pro?
The sound is almost perfect out of the box. The S' are a bit hard though.
having such a camera for little trips to put in the pocket AND use it for Twitch or sth else as a webcam would be awesome!
