  • Tough race in the 23 round the island race in my new folding trimaran with my rookie crew. The weather was rough and I saw a max of 34kts true wind at one point. Few boats capsizing and dismasting. The challenge of this race was making it to the end!

    Fantastic episode! The performance has had me looking at trimarans recently. But finding one that's suitable to cross oceans and affordable isn't easy.

      Yes quite tricky to find that’s for sure! Assume that’s why everyone gets catamarans 🤔

    Looks great fun, well done to have safely made it round.
    I did notice that it appeared that you had not moved the Genoa sheet pulley forward, upwind with reduced sail. That is why the leach was flapping so much.

    • @AlexGoesSailing
      @AlexGoesSailing  9 месяцев назад

      Yeah was going to but was a bit hectic with other boats and didn’t want one of the new crew to try and adjust it in those conditions. Would have made a good bit of difference though!

    • @markthomasson5077
      @markthomasson5077 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@AlexGoesSailing if you stand on the sheet in front of the pulley, it is easy to move , even under some tension.

    I'm not sure what is most outrageous; you're calling 30 knot gusts a storm, or your describing Clover spread as butter. Either way your crew in shorts and a hawaiian shirt upwind in those conditions was very British (I was there, in full oilies). Kudos.

    • @AlexGoesSailing
      @AlexGoesSailing  10 месяцев назад

      Yep saw top gusts of 35kts which is technically a gale on the wind scale. But yes calling clover butter is ways more outrageous! Shorts all summer long is a rule for us British! You dry out surprisingly quickly!

    • @Lightw81
      @Lightw81 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@AlexGoesSailing you mean freeze-dried! Technically you need something like ten minutes sustained wind speed to say it was Force whatever, and as British we should always be underplaying it. 35 knots is "breeze did get up a bit for a while".
