That is going to leak into the spare tire well. They don’t just sell a gasket for that light. You have to buy the light. Without the gasket, water is going to pour in through there
Have you had an issue with the hatch when you open it water running into the trunk and down the side when it’s raised after a rain storm. Just curious, I just purchased a beetle and it does.
I talked to My brother in law today who used to work at a vw dealer and said sometimes the seal in the third breaklight goes bad or the clip breaks, he said they don’t make just a gasket for it so you have to put a new one in and that usually that reseals it and it works. We ordered a new one from OEM from vw and are going to try it and see if it works. He said that it usually did when he worked on them most of the time. So hopefully it will. He said Recommend an OEM because usually the aftermarkets have too much play in them. Crossing my finger that it works! Thanks for replying!

Yes, its a factory flaw. Im not sure if there is a way to resolve it.

What is the name of the middle panel part called? I am trying to find one somewhere so I can get the idea how much those cost.
My guess would be hatch center panel. Im not sure if it has a specific name. Maybe rear hatch plastics?
