CPAP Machine suggestion for ya! Hey Matt. Been watching you for many years. Thanks for all the great car content and I think you and Zach are awesome, honest, and I enjoy the company when I'm doing stuff. So...I totally understand your apprehension about the CPAP machine. But man! I felt the same way...and was suffering for it with my quality of sleep. It takes a while to adjust to it...like, it took me a few months honestly. There are slimmer headgear set ups...try a nasal pillow it's smaller and just over the nostrils. There is also something called the Resmed mini which is small and portable for travel. Using the CPAP, once I adapted to it, has changed my sleep quality significantly. Give it some time and take it easy with it. Just keep trying it and get the settings right, the right headgear that is comfortable for you...hopefully it will help you have deeper and more restful sleep. Anyhow...Thanks again!
You guys should have Motoman on again, he can also weigh on the discusssion in because he was hit by a Tesla Model X as a pedestrian - would be great to hear his story here. Plus his channel has great content of late!
I live in Northern Michigan and I have to say (I don’t own an EV) the infrastructure isn’t too bad. Especially considering that basically everything is 30-40 minutes away from the place you are at. I’m sure there are challenges involved but there are also a ton of free charging stations that are part of municipalities. I had a boss that had a model Y who drove 120 miles round trip but would charge it at a free city charger while he was at work. Essentially the Tesla cost him nothing to own. Pretty interesting. Especially since he went from owning a dodge Durango SRT8 to a Tesla.
Hey guys! Another great podcast. Wanted to chime in and comment about sleep apnea. I was diagnosed after spending time at 7,000 feet elevation. I was jolted awake and hit with a dose of adrenaline and didn't know what the hell was going on. I had undiagnosed obstructive sleep apnea that was disrupting my sleep and causing some problems. If it had continued, it would have been bad at higher elevation. Disrupted sleep cycles will affect all aspects of your lives. So I think your cavalier "well then I guess I'll just die" comment was silly. Why would you say that? Do you not wear a seat belt? Drive drunk all the time? No helmets on the motorcycles and bikes? No! Kinda the same thing! Live to ride/drive/play another day you guys!!!! Come on! And to the comment about wearing the apparatus. There's NO WAY you could just put something on your face for the first time and sleep like a baby. It's anticipated that new patients will go through about two weeks of hell getting used to wearing a face or nose "mask." So please don't judge the solution based on this. I, too, was miserable trying to get used to wearing it. The feeling and fear of suffocation is REAL and messes with your head! But you get past it and will sleep much, MUCH better once you're used to it and it's functioning well. That said, they're developing better and better treatments, so don't just assume you'll be strapped to a machine for the rest of your lives. And Matt, you can bring your CPAP with you while traveling. I do and don't even have a much more convenient, travel-size alternative. You could easily carry something small for travel and it wouldn't be a big deal. I just learned that an avid round-the-world cyclist and popular RUclips cycling channel creator just committed suicide. He apparently suffered from serious sleep apnea. I'll admit I'm not sure of the connection to his apnea, but he seemed to lead the life we only dream of. And then to commit suicide at a young age. I know others whose lives were turned upside down by undiagnosed apnea, so take it seriously. Addressing it will pay many, many dividends! And the test? It's terrible too! I didn't think I slept a wink when I went in for the test. Five years ago, they had you come in and wire you up with all sorts of stuff. Like wearing a car wiring harness on your head. How on earth can you sleep like this? Well, I did. Somehow they are able to catch enough of your sleep cycle to evaluate it. So please don't dismiss this out of hand before giving it more consideration. Your quality of life and general health can and may improve significantly if you address obstructive sleep apnea issues you may be having. And you may not even realize how bad it may have gotten over the years. Just thought I'd share that, given the amazing lives you lead. Plus, you all have loved ones who would be devastated by your loss. Live to drive that GT2RS, Spike! (And if you don't want to, then let me know. I'll take it off your hands!)
I've been obsessed with cars since before I can even remember. My parents got me a power wheels Chips motorcycle, one of my first things I ever said was "more powa"
Longtime TST fan here, regarding your discussion about 99% babysitting vs 1% real driving; I think electric/autonomous cars will become the usual way most people get around, but like horses 100 years ago, some people just like the pleasure of horse back riding and we (car guys) like the pleasure of running through the gears and controlling the backend as it gets squirly. Fun ‘drivers’ cars will become (already has become) for enthusiasts. Curious to know your thoughts about the future of road driving once most of the cars are robots. We need an American Nurburgring x 10 plus canyon roads for fun not commuting, imho. Glad to learn collecting cars is coming to America
I can’t imagine being a gear head born in a country where your driving infrastructure is as bad and congested as India’s is. By the time you get away from the insanity you need 4x4 just to get around.
Anyone who wants a fantastic cocktail in a chill lounge/bar atmosphere in Seattle, I must recommend Sol Liquor Lounge, one of my favorite things in all of Seattle, probably too late for Matt's trip but next time!
I think Spike’s friends probably just excuse his annoying opinionated behavior because he’s a fun and hilarious guy. He’s always going to rub some people the wrong way for sure.
I dont want one of those fast electric cars cause i will get my license taken away almost as quick as they get to 130mph! But i also dont have the same kind of resources, i still really enjoy 6 second manual 1/4 mile cars, drift cars, rally cars, mountain touge driving, hpde, and even slow loud cars too. But electric cars are amazing tools in the right circumstances. I can have plenty of fun losing a race to a car that requires no effort
After 10 minutes of him talking about how "great" the Autopilot bullshit is,and then having to give several caveats to different situations I gave up. Holy hell was that annoying to listen to.
I think EV vs. ICE is a false dichotomy regarding racing. Electric motors and ICE engines TOGETHER give low speed torque via electric motors and the ICE for high top end speed.
Have you priced a used Tundra lately? New Tundra can be crazy expensive, just like all new trucks. Used Tundra also expensive. Saying stuff like “$50k for whatever” while reminiscing for MSRP prices of 20 years ago and talking about old used cars just makes you seem out of touch and left behind.
Love Spike but he's being too annoying with this "new EV's are the only things that excites me" 😅 I can not wait to him to get the future 911 EV and realize that it didn't worth it.
People too hyped about BEVs forget some things about them, like the current batteries used, that barely pass a decade of usage without experience massive degradation. Many people don't have a garage, also the Power Grid needs to be upgraded to support more BEV cars. And the post life cycle of the battery pack, being hard to recycle them in a massive scale.
Degradation has generally been shown to not be that bad, 80+% remaining after a decade is very common. Projected power grid needs for BEVs are in line with past increases in power availability in history, the grid can keep up with the need because we've seen it in the past. And there is a large and growing demand for ex-BEV battery packs for stationary power sources for RVs, trailers, and even rural vacation homes increasingly switch to batteries + solar instead of generators. Some skepticism in adoption is warranted, it's gonna take more than 5 years, but I think Spike is generally right that we're on the doorstep of a big change and IMO it's not gonna be perfect but it's gonna be for the best. (the autonomous crap is complete BS tho)
@@Trendyflute really? Plenty of cars with more than 15 plus years still working. And many other BEVs with huge degradation levels as with many Leaf. BEVs work, Tesla degradation is slower because they have heat management and a huge amount of cells, that disguised the battery. degradation, but it always happen. You can't deny Thermodynamics.
