Organ Recital: Jacob Gruss Organist Jacob Gruss performs a solo concert at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. Jacob placed first in the Westmorland Symphony Orchestra's Young Artist Competition, and first in the Cassel Competition sponsored by the Harrisburg AGO. Additionally, he placed second in the 2023 AGO Quimby Northeast Regional Competition.
The National Shrine houses four pipe organs, adding dignity and majesty to worship, and leading thousands in prayer and praise. Three Möller organs grace the Upper Church and a magnificent mechanical action instrument abides in the Crypt Church.

Why is the camera focused on the antiphonal organ and not the main organ in the gallery? That's where the bulk of the sound is being produced. Just seems odd. And, yes, the playing is very beauitful. This isn't my favorite organ by a long shot but Jacob Gruss is a prodigious organist and he handled its inherent harshness skillfully

At the very beginning of our video, we showed the largest Möller organ of the three that adorn the Upper Church. The magnificent mechanical instrument is located in the crypt church - this is the fourth organ of the Basilica. We enjoyed the music and sat in a way that was comfortable for us, and it didn’t seem strange to us. Sorry if this seemed strange to you... Have a wonderful day!
