  • What is a boy's axe and how does it differ from a forrest axe or a hunter's axe? Moreover, what are the basic woodcraft or camp axe sizes, how do they differ from each other, and what popular axe models fall into each size category? This video reviews the axe literature and attempts to clarify these confusing questions.

Great info Frazier Douglass! I agree with your proposals. I think that would be an accurate way to describe different axes and their uses. In this area we use the term hand axe for the small Boy Scout axe you described. Anyway, thanks once again for sharing your knowledge Frazier.

Thanks for keeping this topic fresh and alive. Hanging an axe head is nearly a lost art.

Hey. Thanks for the note. Don’t know if you are interested but I am currently working on another axe video comparing the Estwing campers axe 14, the Fisgars X7 & a wood handled hatchet. Hope to post it by the end of this week.

Minute on the Mountain Yes I did! This was one of the hardest videos I’ve made. I had to record several parts multiple times because I couldn’t find the right words. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Frazier...Enjoyed the video, very informative and good info in general. I recently purchased a Fiskars X25 splitting axe, but have not received it yet...I am hoping it will be great at the campsite .... Do you still use your portable tree round?

Brent Griffin Hey Brent. Haven’t heard from you in a while. I still use it in my garage but haven’t taken it on a trip in some time. We have too much stuff. Old age and coved are making it hard to beet out. Thanks for commenting.
