Being an audio nut, I really love the Home Theater videos. The best part of this design is the "I built this for me, not everyone else." I really agree with that mentality. 98% of guests watching a movie will be plenty impressed with it the one time they demo it, but the main viewer is me/you.... This room is very inviting and doesn't have that commercial feel many home theaters with stepped seating do. When I setup mine, I aspire to have a similar feel.... Can't wait to see what the setup is in the new house Matt!!

I was into car stereo systems as well when I was younger. The funny thing is when I was 23 a work mentor of mine told me that when I get older I will get in to home audio. He was in his 40s and he had tube amps, VPI turntable, and many vinyl's. Now that I am 45, I have transitioned into home theater about 7 years ago. Thanks for sharing.

On your next house, it's fairly cheap to do a whole house system. I did that in addition to the "Normal" protections. Then I added units to protect both A/C units. Which also protects the electronics from lightning coming in the "Backdoor".

Matt look into inline surge devices for your cat 6 and your cable coax, basically when hit by a strike that may get by your whole house(stage 1 or 2) surge protector or back door to your coax/cat 6, these devices will simply blow like a fuse , not letting the current ruin your equipment

Just a suggestion. I know you know a lot about this topic. I have the exact LCR speakers. My wife worked for Harman and I got employee pricing. I have them in a secondary room where I watch TV and listen to a MIND Neo streaming device while I workout. In my main “media” room I had Klipsch RF7II as LR and RF62 I think is the model as center. While they may not be as “fine” shall we say as the 208, they kick their ass for movies. I now placed the RF7 as rear surround and got a pair of Cornwall IV as LR and a Heresy IV as center. If you haven’t listened to the Klipsch Heritage line, do yourself a favor and do so. And check out Cory at Paducah Home Theater for excellent deals if you decide to go that route. The soundstage the Cornwall throws will make you want to put the 208 in a storage closet or sell them instantly.

Love the fact you have a normal and comfi sofa. Those theater step seats look like outer space stuff. Let's face it, regular people's home if decently sized may measure 20x25 or if lucky 25x45. And still those are not AMC numbers. Lol. For me, theater steps seating would require something like around 35X75. Other than that people need to come down to earth, face reality and be reasonable in choosing projector size according to room size. I also hate the fact that it looks ridiculous when youtubers are sitting 8 or 10ft feet from a 150" projector with their necks as if they are drowning in the middle of the ocean. Great video and thanks for being real, and down to earth.

A/C compressor power source sounds like it might be the issue for the subs humming, possibly could be connected to the same power feed?
I hear what you are saying about the shortcomings of projectors, but I would still take them because of 3 main reasons, animorphic aspect, larger size, and speaker placement behind the screen. Samsung wall can fix 2 of those issues...but their frame rates are still slow, not to mention cost, but that will be fixed soon no doubt. LG has an 8K 88" OLED but that is a big as they go yet sadly.
Man your gear is on another level!
Sounds like the JVC projector would have been the better projector, with the multiple memory lens zoom setting functions, I believe the larger lens on the JVC might also be shorter throw too, which retains brightness (darker room will help with picture quality to, at least light bleeding, and then there is the adding of an animorph lens as well). Also a larger screen would help some with looking straight level to the center of the screen too via perception wise; then you could put the speakers behind the screen as well.

Samsung Wall MicroLed can be as big or bigger than most home projector screens.
But most people don't release that all MicroLed screens are several smaller panels jigsaw together.
The technology doesn't yet exist for a 4k MicroLed tv made of just one panel like a normal tv.

I'm sorry to hear that you had trouble with your system during a storm. I'm sure you already did so, but did you contact Jeff? Surprised by the rookie mistakes on the projector. Screen innovations makes great screens but would never suggest Black Diamond in a dedicated home theater, the whole point of it is for ambient light rejection. Slate is a much better material and doesn't sparkle if you want added contrast and some ALR, otherwise unity gain is good if going full blackout. On long HDMI cables I would go either Cleerline SSF 48gbs or Velox’s 8K Fiber cable, really solid well thought out cables. If you want some OG spec projectors look at Sim2's DUAL NERO 4S UHD HDR, stacked 10k Lumen to get true HDR out of a projector.

Ideally, the room should be twice as long as it is wide. Placement of seat should be either 1/3 distance from front wall or 2/3. A square room is about as bad as it gets acoustically. Seats at back of room or halfway cause major issues. Acoustic panels in a home theater environment are dubious at best. They are narrow band and affect a narrow frequency response. It can be said that if not done perfectly at the exact required frequency response that they ruin the soundstage. Bass traps, such as you are using are not going to have much effect as the wave length at 40 hz is 28 feet. You can extrapolate the other frequencies mathematically. The amount of bass that you are putting into such a small room is a bit much, but with judicious placement of the subwoofers, you can eliminate all the standing waves much more effectively.

Wow. I'm just a dumb retired guy who gets GREAT picture from the Sony projector (4k 4-4-4 HDR.) HDMI2.2 thru a 'basic' Denon 4k AVR. Cheap-ass amp. Middle of the road cables. Sounds fantastic. I did keep the 13 year old screen because I don't have room for a 2.35:1. My take? Roll your own. Screw the high-priced 'experts'. They don't know how to find their ass.

Thank you for the tour and detailed overview of your home theater. Yet another interest we have in common. My dream is to have a room like that someday...Did you have the audio and video calibrated/"dialed-in" by W. Jeff Meier (AccuCal)? You were trying to remember his name and knowing your expectations, I think Jeff would have been your guy. He calibrated my Pioneer Elite PRO-150 60" plasma 10 years ago and it still looks great today. He also did my audio calibration and it sounds spectacular. He is very highly regarded over at avsforum.com.
Cheers and thanks again for sharing.

You should consider something like the SurgeX PF420 power frame for your next rack! I’ve had great results with it.
Gives you 80 Amps (4x 20a) of conditioned & surge protected power before the receptacles. the furmans work great but nothing beats direct wired surge protection. 👍🏼
    love the home content too!

Sounds like quite a few problems from the AV company. Wrong screen - to high gain (you have shades?)
It’s a black diamond screen by the way.
Studio TEK is A SAFE BET. Black diamond is decent if you are particular about black levels. They might of spec’d it since you were coming from OLED.
Other reasons can be looked at but I am not going into that right now.
The fire hawk would of worked there to from STEWART.
But in any case - the company might not be the BEST. Sorry for that experience.
So your hum issue - with the subs (and probably) your speakers too but less noticeable.
This also applies to your issue with the projector and YAMAHA.
Lightning didn’t hit your HDMI cable at the peak.
Lightning hit the cable service line most likely off property. For some reason it always hops the box without damaging it but travels through the cable box to your processor and blows out the HDMI board in the unit. This then traveled to your projector and also blow out that unit.
If you look at the splitter from Xfinity you will find that there is a spot to ground the splitter that wasn’t done. This should of been done. There are also surges that can be placed in the line before the equipment that can be put in place to help protect that further. Like TDP for example.
This ungrounded splitter is also causing the hum in your speakers.

You can fight with Xfinity to get reimbursement as well but it is a process.
Get it confirmed by and electronic service center.

@@ObsessedGarage Perhaps if you do a video on the room your theater is moving into (if you can get into it) it might give your viewers the chance to comment on suggestions for your new room and that might motivate you. I know one thing and thats that you should NOT hire a company to come in and do the work for you. you never seem happy with other peoples work on your stuff. There's nothing wrong with that, but you always know how you want it done and have a much better chance of doing the job right and to your standards
