    I’m with you. Very few people use a dedicated theater room with a projector. But a family room or lounge with surround sound can be a lot of fun.

    Years ago I used to cable I found that using single feed through bushings on the drywall to pass the speaker wire through then using braided wire protector was so much cleaner astetically then putting speaker terminals plates near externally mounted speakers. It costs alot less money too.

    Looks awesome. I'm building my home theater right now and am really leaning towards an 83" OLED vs. messing around with an Epson 4050 and 120" SI Black Diamond. I get the immersive comments but don't really want to mess around with different gains, different materials, different lumens, etc. etc.

    Love ❤️ your setup; super clean and I also can’t stand projectors! In walls sound like crap, And the best in-walls that are megadollars sound average at best. Totally agree with Matt! One change: IMO don’t put the center in the cabinet, put it on top. Destroys dialogue intelligibility…get the consoles from Salamander but they have their own drawbacks.

      You'd need a laser light cannon with the amount of ambient light coming in that room and bouncing around off of white walls and ceilings. Or only watch late at night. Or put in motorized shades. I prefer a projector, but a TV is probably best unless he changes things to control all that ambient light.

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  2 года назад +1

      I did that once, but I hated jerking around with it. 2.35:1 screen and dealing with switching to 1.78:1. I will likely never do another projector and won't have to do it once OLED and other technologies get to larger sizes.

    Mad respect for your content but the heights are too close together. The ones closer to the tv should be maybe 3-4 feet farther from the back ones.

  • @dmark2639
    @dmark2639 2 года назад +7

    Matt, I know you hate hearing it, but when it comes to home theater you know just enough to be dangerous. You bought very good gear, but the speaker locations in the room and seating position are terrible. Sofa should not be up against the back wall. Dirac can't "fix" these major errors! You made an attempt at acoustic treatments, but in a room that size, you didn't go far enough. The room should be Munsell Gray, not white. The center should NOT be in the cabinet, like you already mentioned. With a house your size, you probably should have put an equipment rack in another room or closet so any fan noise is not a problem. I feel like you just jumped into the theater design without any professional guidance. Fly me down there and we can get everything sorted out and performing 1,000% better. You have a nice room and gear to start with, but the execution is a mess and I hate to see such resources underperform. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it's like buying a BMW M3, putting bargain tires on it, loading it up with an extra 1,000 pounds of weight, and only driving around the block at 10 MPH...

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  2 года назад +3

      You are missing the point. This is a room with a TV and some nice speakers. It is not a theater room, nor do I want that. I did that once and never used it. This is making the best use of a basic room.

    • @dmark2639
      @dmark2639 2 года назад

      @@ObsessedGarage OK, it's your money. If casual use was the goal,, you could've just bought some Bose acousti-mass cubes and a Denon AVR on sale at Costco instead and made your wife a lot happier... Sorry, I don't mean to be a d*ck, I like your OG stuff alot. I'm as Obsessed about AV, that's all. If I had your money, I'd do it differently. Just my two cents...

    • @Ryem3
      @Ryem3 2 года назад +1

      Got that right. Best use of a basic wouldn’t have speakers hanging off the walls in the wrong locations. Not to mention aren’t they like $1000 a pair? Then you run 50’ of cheap 12 g to them? Through connectors. Your sound loss to the speakers negates any money spent on speakers or amplification. If you have a compromised room, spend accordingly.

  • @Ryem3
    @Ryem3 2 года назад +1

    I’m sure you get enough critiques but:
    High side surrounds are not effective
    In my surround system, the surrounds are a fraction of the sound impact. The visual impact of having in walls offsets what you are trying to achieve with the audio.
    The fronts are way too far apart to give proper imaging
    The center is useless firing through a piece of wood
    High end two channel amplification with proper front placements give the best quality, with nothing else! Even with a ghost center.
    The other speakers are fill. Spending a ton is a waste compared to better placement of all the speakers

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  2 года назад

      Every single thing you just stated is wrong.

    • @Ryem3
      @Ryem3 2 года назад

      @@ObsessedGarage wow that’s funny. Bunch of people have already said the side speaker placement doesn’t work (given you can’t locate them due to the location). I guess you open the cabinet when using the center, so maybe that works.
      You are using expensive surrounds with cheap amps. Running speaker wires through a connector results in huge quality loss. Doubling the connectors is hugely degrading. As I said, the surrounds add little anyway. Match the quality of your speakers relative to running 50’ of low grade 12 gauge wire through 2 connectors. Doesn’t make sense.
      You really think you get a decent center image sitting 10’ away from speakers 10’ apart???

    Full credit for trying to do it yourself but I'm sorry, you're actually doing more damage than good. Home theatre speakers supposed to be strategically placed! You've got 2 height speakers and 4 Atmos speakers all within a few feet of each other. You're not going to experience no sense of scale!
    If you want to see how it's done properly, click on the red dragon video hit the high-end Dolby Atmos video.
