That’s the most cold hearted thing you can say to any kid period. Your nephew, your nieces, your son, your daughter, your grandson or granddaughter…no matter the age, those words alone that come from someone that is supposed to be a parental figure in someone’s life is enough to destroy a person from the inside. You never say those words to family. EVER.
I've had my uncle tell me, don't claim me as your uncle. I said don't claim me as your nephew, he said "I never did.,I tolerated you and your mom cause I had too." To this day, he tries to be friendly and the only words he gets from me are fuck you.
The Uncle saw something in that young man that he knew he could never be. He knew he was destined for great things. And like a demon, he tried to block him from succeeding. But God!
The last update on this young man is he went to community college where he got his associate degree (not sure on his major) and he's actually a young minister at his church. Judge Mathis said this on Daily Blast Live (DBL) All these kids need is a little love and help.

I found this Q&A from Judge Mathis dated 2016…. You’ve broadcast thousands of cases on Judge Mathis over the past 17 years, but do you have a most memorable case that you’ve heard, and why? JM: The most memorable, and perhaps the most embarrassing, depending on the opinion of the viewer, is one where I shed tears. It was the only case where I shed any tears on air. It was a young guy who had left the street gangs of Oakland to move in with his aunt in St. Louis. Both of his parents had died of HIV/AIDS, so when he left the street gangs to move in with his aunt, he was bent on going in the right direction and he enrolled in the community college in that area. He was suing his aunt’s husband, who had thrown all of his things outside because he came in after midnight, which was against the rigid uncle’s rules for a 24-year-old kid. So when I challenged the uncle of why he would throw his things out without a court order or why he would even do that period, he began giving harsh criticism of the kid. Talking about, “He ain’t nothing, he’s never gonna be anything, I threw the clothes out because he doesn’t need to be there anyway.” I began to ask him things like, “Didn’t you think he could have mentored the young man? He’s fought his way out, when most young people don’t want to leave the street gangs, and you don’t want to give him any support? He’s in community college.” And he began to rage about the young man, “No, I don’t wanna help him. He has to get it on his own, he can go back to the street gangs.” So I began to admonish that guy because I had seen myself in the young man. I saw myself in having left the street gangs in Detroit and gone to college. But I had a supportive cousin who helped direct and mentor me. So I saw the opposite there, and it was so touching and compelling that in the midst of me going in on the uncle I shed a little tear there. The good news is that I kind of inspired the young man using my example, gave him some direction, met with him after the case to give him some further direction and support, and he came back two years later and he was a youth minister at his church and had completed his Associate Arts degree and was working on his Bachelor’s degree.

No full video, but I did find a summary of the outcome of this case on Judge Mathis:11-10-2003 Judge Mathis Cries For A Troubled Young Man--Brandon moved in with his uncle, Anthony, to escape the gang lifestyle in Oakland. He had no where else to turn since both his parents were dead. To make matters worse, Brandon had Sickle Cell Anemia. Brandon said Anthony abused him and did nothing to encourage him. During the case, Anthony told Brandon that he meant nothing to him. As the audience moaned, Judge Mathis took his glasses off and began to cry. The judge said he saw himself in Brandon and said he did a good thing by running from the gangs. Brandon went on to tell of how Anthony threw all his stuff out, including the medication for his disease. Brandon brought Anthony to court for $2,500 for dumping his property, while his uncle counter sued for rent. Judge Mathis told Brandon that he did not sue for enough because he was entitled to pain and suffering, so the judge granted him $4,200. The audience applauded the verdict.
The fact that this young boy even got up every day and kept on living, looked presentable and carried himself with class, even through chronic disease, through being an orphan from teenage years, through vicious abuse by his closest relative, is really an inspiration to me. I lost my dad at 25 and got very sick now at 33 years old. I know judge Mathis didn’t just let this kid go after the show. If I know judge Mathis he met him, he motivated him, and kept in touch. Hopefully he’s doing well now as this was 20 years ago and he’s actually older than me. Also, shame on the uncle for doubting that his sickle cell was acting up. This is textbook gaslighting that the healthy do to the disabled all the time by accusing them of faking illness. If you're a healthy person, you haven't walked a day in my shoes, so you don't get to have a say or input on whether I'm too sick to you a favor. It's the worst feeling in the world to be in pain and have loved ones accuse you of faking. Also the uncle is an animal abuser. Just wow.
I have chronic fatigue syndrome along with some other conditions and getting up everyday just to do simple things is a huge challenge. For him to have sickle cell anemia and to continue to get up and push through everything he’s been through is absolutely incredible and inspiring!!!!
I was thinking the same thing. I really don't doubt it at all. I see nothing but fear on her face. She probably have said something, but he probably turned Ike Turner on her.
To everyone wondering what happened to this young man after this episode, he's now a youth pastor! He went to college, got his associate degree thanks to Judge Mathis! I'm so proud that he didn't let the devils plot interfere with God's plan!!! ❤
When Judge Mathis said "I see myself in him" I love the boys reaction ...it gave him hope and inspiration! He was shocked 🙌🏽 ...this definitely made me cry 😢
It is tragic that the real issues here are hidden behind the drama. You are looking at a Youngman unable to make the adjustment to inhabit a house that does not belong to his parents, Applaudable is his efforts to rid himself of gang influence, but he is still resistant to the rules of the house that we learn as teens. I often disagreed with my father, but never went up against him, or acted disrespectfully. These skills will also be helpful in keeping a job and dealing with civil authority.
@@RUclips.TOM.A he was going out late at night but skipping work, blaming his illness. Playing loud music at night, knowing he's not allowed to. My dad would have lost his shit too. And rightly so! The uncle needs better communication skills but his house his rules.
@@intimatespearfisher I respect your information as probative but have no way of knowing if that is the truth. That aside, I have laid my head at the discretion of many landlords / family members, before being independent. Some did not prescribe specific rules but I learned how to read their moods. I learned how to be in subjection of someone else's treasured abode. I wish the young man well but if he really wants to reform his life, dealing with his uncle in this measure of a problem is low hanging fruit on his way to self actualization.
I feel everyone that’s had a hard life, past or present is moved by this clip. Sometimes all we ever needed was someone to side up with us for the better.. Judge Mathis is that voice.
What’s most heartbreaking to me is, that’s his aunt, his blood. Her sister died, you let your spouse treat your late sister’s child like that? Mind blowing. She doesn’t have a backbone, weak woman who stays with a man like that.
I can tell firsthand, she was abused by the uncle. If she probably spoke up, he'd probably go off on her. I think I read somewhere that the nephew still talks to her to this day.
She's probably on the recieving end too and she's most likely dependent on her husband. See how she didnt say a word. She knows what happens when she speaks up "out of turn". To him if the wife speaks up that be her disrespecting him"the big man of the house. This is why woman say its important for woman to be independent
Nephew: "Unc, I'm your nephew man, I'm family", Uncle: " You're not nothing to me". This breaks my heart. How could anyone be so cold-hearted, especially towards a kid with a chronic painful illness? I'm all for kids respecting adults, but this man is just plain evil.
He went on to say "Your nothing to me. You are her nephew". The uncle never cared for this young man. It didn't matter what he did in the house. It was going to be a problem regardless. He had already prejudged the boy before he ever stepped foot into his house. He didn't want him there in the first place. I wonder how his life turned out. Karma usually wins in the end.
capybara tranquil no, empathy, sympathy, & being human. And honestly, you don’t “know” where people come from/how they were raised. Judge Mathis probably went through something VERY similar and was brought to emotion bc of how traumatic it was, and to think that defiant was going to win him over by playing an it’s a “mans game” card, was foolish and arrogant and cold
His uncle told him you're nothing to me. He showed his true colors in court that day. I hope this young man got the support from another family member he needed.
Brandon and I went to High School together. We weren't close...we might exchange a waz up if we saw each other though. Just goes to show you that you never know what somebody is going through.
Am not from America but I watch judge Mathis sometimes but it the first time I saw this clip boy this made me cry Mr mathis sure was the angel in this boy life what an uncle shame on him it really makes me cry n to think he became a youth pastor it makes me cry evan more watching from the Caribbean Barbados
This is pretty much what is gonna happen with the new Fresh Prince remake. People are of course pissy about it, but the fact that this video is pretty much the reality of Fresh Prince is the point of the remake. The here and there episodes with drama were amazing, but this chance to tell the story in a more constant dramatic light is definitely reeling me in.
Notice his Aunt is not saying anything, but I saw tears from her eyes. She probably gets abused too, he looks evil. I'm glad things turned well for the young man I saw the update.
I agree. If the uncle treats his own blood- his nephew- this way, it's likely he doesn't treat his wife any better. Her behavior (always looking at her husband, never at the nephew), makes me think she is doing what she is "supposed" to be doing. The man is soulless.
That's quite a stretch. The aunt is no relative to Brandon, she is his aunt-in-law which really means nothing. This is between Brandon and the uncle. Maybe you're right but you're purely speculating. "He looks evil" why?? Did he murder somebody? Did he rape a child? No all we know that he did was...not want to take in his nearly adult nephew. He gets the burden of having another grown man in his house but never got the privilege of raising him and watching him grow as a child. Lifeisnotorious you're full of shit.
xele fonte You are such a blind AF troll, that you actually had the balls to post this shit. You CLEARLY are lacking compassion to thus young man. It's like You're dead inside!!
When Judge said he sees himself in him, that young man had a glow on his face like he could take over the world. Those few words could have made the biggest impact on this kids life, more than his rough and humble beginnings and adversity with his family.
ThunderLips .... yeah huh... Bitch is kinda lizard-neckish... But dude's face tho! I'm on some Bubba-Gump meets Grace Jones meets Kanye in a bar room brawl type shit....
When that pen dropped, the tears dropped and after Judge spoke those words into the atmosphere…a breakthrough came in for this young man. His steps were ordered.
WOW. I was watching funny cases and didn't expect this at all, almost had me in tears. I was not ready at all! Judge Mathis deserves a lot of respect for that one.
I'm glad he didn't let that dirt bag bring him down! Judge Mathis was telling his truth he grew up in the streets and turned his life around. He saw himself in that young man.
This literally made me cry. I've seen judge Mathis have some really strong reactions but he felt this to his core and that young man needed to hear that
To hear his uncle say you not nothing to me that breaks my heart. I am glad judge Mathis stood up for this man. At least he knows now someone is listening and feels his pain
@@lendzemojoachimkimeng1318 What rules? There was nothing simple about this case. If you couldn't see the mental disturbance or at best, stupidity of that uncle, you might want to get checked.
Isn’t the goal of taking care of a child to make them a better person than the parent/guardian? Have them achieve a greatness that the guardian couldn’t achieve? How is that supposed to happen when the guardian says “You can’t be a be a better person than me”? They have to leave the house before they can stand up for themselves? If they leave before they know to stand up for themselves, they probably won’t. Or they won’t for a real long time because it was never seen as a good thing when they were growing up.
Tatyana Najee The abusers are sneaky. He has already beaten her self-esteem down, alienated her from everybody and everything she knows and made her a stay at home wife so he can have better control. She has no voice.
Every time I watch this I tear up, every single time. This young man in my opinion is remarkable. I'm so very proud of him for leaving the streets that are soooo easy to swallow you up. I'm so grateful he stood before Judge Mathis that day... I pray for him. Wherever you are young man, just know you have people out here rooting for you, praying for you, and most def PROUD of you!
no one understand until they walk in your shoes...I happy to be alive Erika, it's heartbreaking to see this.....i was in the gang in Chicago and I'm proud to be alive by the grace of God. God is Good , Amen
"YOU NOT NUTHIN TO ME"........ That would be sad for any human being to say to another human being. Not to mention a family member to say to another family member....
Why not? He is nothing to him. I respect his honesty. Most strangers are nothing to other strangers and there's nothing wrong with that. That's called normal. Why should an uncle have to take in the burden of a sickle cell nephew he never brought into this world? The uncle has no responsibility on his nephew. Everything he did up to this point was pure charity even though it was a mean form of charity. Stop demonizing the uncle. He already did far more than the nothing he was obligated to do.
I am so happy the Judge became his mentor!! I prayed for this young man! I am happy to find he is doing well. I had no doubt he would be ok, he had great determination and his faith, and with great mentoring I am just glad he found his calling
ISayToMyself he got married, had a child and cut ties with his uncle but he still stays in contact with his aunt. And from what I can remember I’m pretty sure he became a counselor for at-risk teens
I just know she probably got abused by him as well. She can clearly see her nephew's pain but is probably too scared to say anything in front of the uncle.
I have 3 nephews and a son of my own. I'll go to war over ALL of them. As long as they doing what they supposed to then my home, wallet, and heart will always be open to them
I've been watching Judge Mathis since he's been on television. I've never once seen him cry. I love the fact he has a heart! Continued blessings to him!
When you didn’t come from nothing and hear someone with even the slightest amount of success in life say “ I see myself in you/him” it is the the most inspiring thing you can feel. Especially when you know your odds of actual success
That young man’s uncle is a miserable, thoughtless, and heartless human being. It’s an absolute shame. I really hope everything works out for this young man. It’s just heartbreaking to watch this.
I have always wanted to watch this fully. Mathis is a great man, mentor, role model. I hope this young man was able to move on and build his life successfully.
The fact that the boy was kinda shocked/confused when judge Mathis was talking about tough love as apposed to just toughness breaks my heart. He's been through some stuff for sure. I'm happy he stayed true to himself and Mathis saw his light.
Ooooh that kid needed that support in that moment ! I'm so glad to see judge Mathis talk to his "step dad" like that and him have to sit there and take it! His wife has no voice. He was jealous of that kid for wanting to be a better person. This is a strong kid , I KNOW he will be blessed!
"You Not Nothing to Me." Damn those words cuts deeper than sharp swords, especially when a family member says it to you. That's horrible. Sadly, I have experienced having those words being said to me, so I totally understand how that young man feels emotionally.😩
Words cut deeper than a knife. I pray this young man is living his best life. And if his aunt got away from her husband. This man is scary and a bully. If he didn't want the young man in his house he sholdve not extended the offer.
I literally cried!! It was so harsh especially after the young man said but we're family your my uncle. My goodness that hurt me and I'm not even his nephew.
Revenge for what? Did his uncle stab him or steal from him? No you idiot. All the uncle did was not want to take in his adult nephew, of which he has no obligation to do. The uncle is obligated to take care of his wife and his own responsibilities. Taking care of his nephew is pure charity and God bless him for even trying when he was never acquainted with him in the first place. He might be mean and callous but that's cause the nephew is a burden to him. Judge Mathis got all you idiots simp-pathetic and emotional.
The look that young brother gave to the judge when he said " I see my self in him" probably and hopefully gave a positive life changing experience to him.. Ase
Shut the fuck up. What does Mathis stand for? Besides money and power. Why doesn't Mathis take in Brandon? Ohh he doesn't want that burden, the same burden the uncle doesn't want. Tell me who wants to take in an adult relative grown man he was never acquainted to just because his parents died. I don't want to take care of my brothers and sisters kids just because they are my siblings. Fuck that. I am only responsible of taking care of my own kids. The uncle owes absolutely nothing to Brandon just like Brandon owes nothing to the uncle. I am absolutely sick of this nepotism angle. Nepotism is exactly what's fucking up America to begin with.
The uncle reminds me of my dad. My dads said the exact. Same. Words to me for years. Amd when judge Mathis said his emotional piece, sticking up for the nephew......that hit me. Especially when he said "its one thing to a man tough love....but wheres the love? Cuz all i hear is toughness"
I love this. Judge Mathis showing the uncle how to be a real man to his nephew. While being a judge is his full time job, being a dad is his career. Once Judge Mathis knows you, you are his son for life. God Bless.
Judge Mathis this brought tears to my eyes! It's 2019 and I'm watching this from 2003 I hope this young man has turned his life around. I know this must have been very hard for you. You said you seen yourself in him. I heard what you said at the beginning of your shows and that part is the best about your shows 😊⚘❤
Judge Mathis was in tears when he hears this young man who's uncle mistreat him out of disrespect talking about no man is a bigger man in my house but to me I give this young man credit for keeping away from gang activity drugs and running the streets
The one second that the camera focused on the wife while judge Mathis was talking, you can see her trying to hold back tears, her eyes were watery and she just looked so emotional.
Tonicia Riley 😢😢😢😢 I'm so sorry for your burdens.... makes me really think how greatful I am to be where I am....may the Lord bless all of you tenfold!!!! 💖💖💖
God bless Judge Mathis. If every judge had a heart, there would be actual justice. If you've never been there, it's hard to come out of the street life. And someone will always discourage you. I hope this young man is standing strong. All things are possible in Christ Jesus.
Judge Mathis was the guardian angel that young man needed that day.

Just wow.

I agree. If the uncle treats his own blood- his nephew- this way, it's likely he doesn't treat his wife any better. Her behavior (always looking at her husband, never at the nephew), makes me think she is doing what she is "supposed" to be doing.
The man is soulless.
MelaniePM1 Exactly. You can tell something ain't right between their marriage. Karma is going to be a real bitch with him. If she hasn't been yet.

"He looks evil" why?? Did he murder somebody? Did he rape a child? No all we know that he did was...not want to take in his nearly adult nephew.
