This is the only proper instruction video on Minuet I found. Thanks to that I can train the step before I enter the classes of baroque and rococo dance in autumn. Thank you!
Thank you so much for these clear instructions and elegant demonstrations. I'm playing baroque minuets right now on the piano, but couldn't get the feel without knowing a bit about the dance. This was perfect. Since I am also a dancer I'm going to practice dancing it, too!
Thank you. Could you show other patterns of Minuete, like figure 8 or circle, and how to connect it to Z. Also could you show hands movements with steps. Is it a general rule on hands position and movements. For example, hands movements on plie and eleve, in peruetts etc. Thank you again. Very good instructions.
Thank you Natalya for your feedback. Doing patterns and hand movements with minuet is a great idea. Of course, ladies can simply hold skirts and avoid any hand movements:) I will see if I can film something any time soon. Regarding the hand movements for other French baroque steps and dances, they are not prescribed and often improvised by individual dancers.
Wonderful to see such a good demonstration and description of the Minuet step. Would love to see more historic dance steps and moves. Thank-you for posting, I will recommend your post to those who want to learn to do the dances properly and not use a waltz step.
@@lesdansesantiques2659 it went well! I had a group of 10 kids and their parents, plus a couple other piano teachers all up and dancing. We went all up and down the room. And I got some masking tape and drew a Z on the floor. A 9 year old boy volunteered to do the Z shape dance with me to demonstrate for everyone.
Surprisingly, in early 1800s, Argentina & Uruguay during independence wars, 1810 20 created new minuets for new republics Minue Federal Minue Montonero, etc,!See videos by dances names.
Why surprising? Minutes were invented, performed, or taught well into the 20th century. Even during the revolution in France they still danced minuets:) I am interested in the Minuet Quadrilles from the Victorian period, choreographed for Queen Victoria's Powder Ball, a costumed ball in 1845. It is interesting to look at American choreography as well as European.
Thank you! The music is "She's Sweetest when She's Naked" :) by Aria Disalvio. The original tune is by James Oswald from A Curious Collection of Scots Tunes, 1741. The tune is also known by the name Miss Faw's minuet.
@@Yeknodathon I accidentally deleted the Strathspey Minuet video with your question. So I answer it here. The music for the intro slides is The English Dancing Master by Academia Amsterdam
I watched dozens of videos looking for a good instructional one on the basic minuet step and z-figure. This was the best one I have seen so far.
Yes, I am using this one to teach myself in Manchester in 2023.

Sehr gut. Dankeschön ☺️
Excellent instruction!
Thank you very much for sharing! I'm going to attempt to teach this to some young piano students tomorrow...wish me luck!
How was it, Hanna? Did your students enjoy learning the moves behind what they play?:)
