Long takes are actually just as hard in animation, just for different reasons. Corridor Crew had an interview with a lead animator for an animated feature film that had come out a year or so ago, and it was really interesting to here about the challenges that come out when tackling shots like that.
We are taking my Mario obsessed four-year-old son to see it as his first movie theater experience. It being fine and an easy watch is all it needs to be. He will be through the roof excited and it's gonna be great. Frankly, the fact that it is just a simple story makes it a safer theater watch for us. No worries about it being too intense. (Which the Lego movie kinda is) So , we're cool with a 3 1/2 star kinda experience.
I definitely figured they'd be taking some tips from The Lego Movie. Everybody complained and questioned why they casted Chris Pratt for a voice acting role when he isn't a voice actor, but conveniently forgot that he starred in one of the more successful animated IP adaptations of the last decade.
@@ThePrinceofHisOwnKingdom Mario isn't really iconic as a speaking character though. If he isn't saying "Let's a go" we really don't hear much out of him. He doesn't usually have a defined personality.

I’m not really excited to see this movie, but I am curious. I had the same feelings about the Sonic movies. I like the movies, but I waited to see them until they came to streaming. Not something I’d go see in a theater unless I have a friend who really wants to go.
Just saw this tonight. Me and my friend, as longtime elder Mario players, were enjoying it a lot, but even better, there was a family with several kids behind us, and they were audibly LOVING it. Like totally engaged, giggles, gasps, shouts of glee. This is a winner for family films. Also, we all deserve Chris Pratt a big apology.
I still have to see the movie in April 19 where my country releases, but as a writer first over gamer, you sound like the Mario movie probably doesn't have internal conflict to ground its themes in order to play it out in its runtime. It's like the dialogue may not have these rich character exchange moments, and it's all external conflict after external confict, plot beat after plot beat. No characters taking the time to talk and converse with one another and be like real people. If that really is so, then it's kinda too bad for me. I was looking forward for a genuinely well-written dynamic between Mario and Luigi as brothers that gets shown to us before they get sent out to an adventure. And Mario gradually gaining a deep connection with Peach along the way.
It is concerning that while a Mario plot could be fine as simple, the character dynamics should be the meat of the story to shoulder that, which even a game like Paper Mario 64 did; I'm kinda scared Peach will be a Mary Sue here, a device just to make Mario grow rather than a potentially interesting character herself.
It’s about the same pace as a level in the games It’s mario the games didn’t have a lot of story and they wanted to stay faithful We got some story like peach’s backstory and Mario’s relationship with his dad
