    Absolutely fantastic you have done justice to the black undersides.the paintwork on the uppers as well .One thing I'd like to mention is the exhaust staining looks a little bit regimented and the soot usually impacted the outer third of the horizontal tail so a light dusting of black on a high mileage aircraft would be applicable on the tail and both sides of the vertical
    tail. You have captured the exhaust staining at the intersection of the nacelle and wing perfectly. A job in the upper stratosphere of modelling.

    • @spruehunter

      Thanks, I agree that the top stains are a little too perfect, I'd probably do it differently now looking back 🤔

    What price would you put on that model once finished?

    • @spruehunter
      @spruehunter  8 месяцев назад

      Hi Kaegis, depends on what you mean? It's probably priceless to me as it's the only model I've built for RUclips so a lot of sentimental value but if I was commissioned to build and paint another one to sell I really don't know, I would need to workout how many hours it would take, cost of the kit plus paint and glue etc. I've done commissions in the past but nothing this big so I would have to negotiate with the customer to come to a price we are both happy with.
      Thanks for your question, hope you enjoyed the build! 👍

    BRAVISSIMO! You had a great result! Very professional! Very nicely explained too! I'm thinking to try the 1/32 scale one...not sure if HK Models or Border Models. Anyway you've done a "must have" guide for the Lancaster. Regarding the CA glue "shelf life" I think you mention: I keep it in the fridge and it lasts indefinitely. My CA glue never cured again inside his container. I hope it helps! I am subscribing, greetings from Italy!

    Can you please advise if the sealing matt varnish was enamel or acrylic? Many thanks and a great build.

    • @spruehunter
      @spruehunter  8 месяцев назад

      Matt varnish was Tamiya XF-86 Flat Clear thinned with Self Levelling Thinner in about a 60/40 ratio paint/varnish to thinner. It's technically an acrylic but more of a hybrid alcohol as can be thinned with acrylic or lacquer thinner. The only enamel I use these days is AK Extreme Metals but didn't use them on this build, so everything you see is acrylic or lacquer based. Hope that helps you out, thanks for your question. 👍

    Great build, couple of questions, did you put a clear coat down before you put on the decals? And did you do a wash or are the panel lines deep enough they give defintion without needing it?

    • @spruehunter
      @spruehunter  Год назад +1

      Thanks Dunc, glad you liked it. No clear coat before decals, just polished the area to get a smooth surface to avoid any silvering. I used Flory's clay wash for the panel lines and rivet detail, both are covered in parts 2 and 3 of the video build in painting and then weathering the model.
      Cheers

    Ghost seams : look at close ups of the real deal and realise that panels hardly ever fitted seamlessly.

    • @spruehunter
      @spruehunter  9 месяцев назад

      I know, I've got reference photos of wonky rivet lines and gaps. These machines being built for war weren't always finished the best but had it where it counts. Only had to deal with seam lines where there wouldn't have been any on the real thing, thought I'd show how to deal with them reappearing so that others might benefit. Plus if I'd left seams all over it then it wouldn't look right as a scale model and there would be even more people critiquing the end result 😂👍

      @@spruehunter what airbrush type do you use as i am in the market for one for both my 1/48 scale lancs

    • @spruehunter
      @spruehunter  2 месяца назад +1

      I used a Harder & Steinbeck Evolution CR Plus 0.2 for the Lancaster, but I also have a Mr Hobby Procon Boy 0.2 and it's a great airbrush for the money with an adjustable Mac valve and lockable trigger comes in handy. Prices for H&S just keep going up but the Mr Hobby Procon I managed to pick up off Amazon for less than £100. I also hear good things about Fengda 180k brushes which a few folk have and at around £20 you can't really go wrong. The key I find with airbrushes is to not strip and clean them all the time, just blow them through with lacquer thinner and only clean when needed, my H&S needs more than the Mr Hobby but is fairly easy to disassemble. Mr Hobby I've never stripped but still no issues. Hope that helps! 👍

    Hi great series and will be indispensable viewing when I start my Lanc. Just one question- when you use the airbrush on the priming and camouflage what size airbrush needle do you use and what pressure are you using?

    • @spruehunter
      @spruehunter  Год назад +1

      Thanks Robin, I use an H&S Cr Plus with a 0.2mm needle, pressure wise I don't have a clue to be honest. I do my pressure by what it sounds like, what I mean is I thin the paint then add to the airbrush. If it's struggling I usually thin it a bit more thinners or up the pressure slightly, if I had to guess it's probably around 15psi? I'd rather thin the paint and get close than blasting paint through the airbrush and most of the paint is airborne and not on the model. Hope that helps, glad you like the videos and thanks for your question 👍

    how does this kit compare with the Border one?

    • @spruehunter
      @spruehunter  Год назад

      Good question ekspatriat, to be fair I've only built the HK kit, I've seen videos/photos of the Border kit and also watched a few reviews which have a mixed opinion on both kits.
      To compare the two kits the only thing in common is that they are models of the same subject, the Avro Lancaster.
      I suppose it depends what you want out of a model, the Border looks amazing with its detail (stressed skin effect, interior, engines) but it was originally a Wingnut Wings design so no surprises there. However it's let down by poorly moulded clear parts and some have even received their kits with damaged clear sprues in the box. The box the kit is issued in isn't really big enough to contain all the kit sprues adequately, so damaged parts more likely. I've heard also the instructions are a wrong in places.
      They are different scales so if you have the space then that's not really an issue but the HK 1/48 takes up a fair amount of room as it is...
      Time taken to complete, the HK is a basic kit, gives you everything you need. Maybe not as accurate as it could be but an enjoyable build. Border will take a fair amount of time as there's so many detailed parts to clean up, paint and weather etc.
      Lastly there's the price, the border kit is 5x the price....
      So really it depends what you want, for me the Border kit is amazing but too big, too expensive and would take too much time for me to own one. The HK Models kit ticks all the boxes for me and I'd recommend it to anyone looking to do a Lanc, I'd say it's better than the 1/72 offerings and better exterior surface detail than Tamiyas 1/48 Lancaster especially as it's recessed details.
      Hope that helps! Thanks for your question, it was interesting to think about the pros and cons of each kit.👍

    Excellent demonstration on the use of oils for exhaust stains. Particularly interesting is the chosen broad convex curved edge brush type... Aside the beautiful result, the video is worth watching for the oil paint staining demo alone...

    My best mate wants me to build this kit next, so I guess this will be my Christmas present to myself. I'm glad that I found your channel. It has given me plenty of ideas on how to proceed and taught me plenty of new tricks and skills. Thank you.

      Your welcome Mark, glad you found the videos useful. It's a nice kit, really has a presence in the collection, I'm sure you'll enjoy building it. Just make sure the bomb-bay/cockpit floor is securely glued in place when you close up the fuselage, mine popped loose at some point but thankfully managed to sort out the issue, apart from that and the fact I masked the rear turret wrong. You need to paint the rear black rather than mask as I did but have since sorted once someone mentioned it 🤦😂
      Enjoy the build and thanks for commenting 👍

      @spruehunter You're very welcome. I'm glad that I watched all four videos again. It's made me realise that I haven't yet bought all the paints and weathering stuff that I'm going to need. Ah well, I do enjoy shopping for gear at the best of times. Abteilung and a new set of PLW's are next months purchases. The thing that annoyed me is that the kit makes no mention of transparent red, green and orange for the IFF lights. I'm wondering if Ammo Crystal Red and Crystal Green will work, leaving me with just transparent orange to buy?
