Tip: Taking Aluminum foil over the cap before heating it with the lighter will help against the dicolour (that makes it black) of the cap, if you where going to re-use it. (maybe you wouldn't in this case, but it is a great tip for other situations)
Now we have established that you are as dumb as me....that literally made me laugh. Yes, I too am that dumb...or maybe I was just ignorant. I thought the fancy valve stem caps looked great with my new wheels....I didn’t realize they were permanent!😂
Cheap ass aluminum caps, 8 for $6…ugh. Very helpful information. Got the Dremel out, spent a few moments on each of the four stuck caps, and replaced them with even cheaper plastic ones!!! Great video!!! Now I have 146 cheapie leftover! lol
The easiest method is to use a Dremel and disc. Either cut the end of the cap and pry ope with a screwdriver and unscrew or use the cutting disc and rub it up and down the body pf the valve cap and wear it away until you see the threads of the valve. IF you must use pliers, or any type of gripping tool with teeth, wrap a piece of cloth or tape around the valve stem...Otherwise it will split and be chewed up as in the video. When using alloy caps apply a bit of grease or copperslip before fitting.
Thanks, I tried your tips definitely helped me open my mind but did not really open a valve. I had to use the rasp and rasp one site of the valve completely. Took about 20 minutes :).
---Galvanic Corrosion--- If you're valve stem is made out of Aluminum get ALUMINUM valve stem caps. If your valve stem is made out of Brass get BRASS valve stem caps. Never connect 2 dissimilar metals together....
Im in the u.s. the rest of my family is still in italy. It's funny because we were just talking about how the air at gas stations here is usually a dollar lol
I was able to get mine unstuck by drilling a small hole in the top filling it with wd40 getting a ratchet that fit the end of the cap and using pliers so that stupid little rubber tube stoped spinning
Did you try some more excessive thermal shock? A.k.a. heat the cap and then immediately cool it down with water? (No idea but the thought just popped up)
You can always try that but I think that would only work if you could access the valve stem. That part needs to cool rapidly in order to create a space between the valve stem and the cap and the access to the valve stem itself is limited. It's a good idea to try out tho! It can't hurt to try it.
My cars rear two caps are stuck like this... i managed to get the fronts off and put some anti-seize on them before reinstalling, but i could not get those rear two off... I wanted to get the stems replaced, but then COVID happened... might give the ol Fire trick a go...
I had that same model of aluminium caps and got stuck even i putty ceramic pastes onto stems 🤦♂️I had to grind caps with Dremel all the way to the threads. Duckt tape on pillars and 12 mm wrench got them off😂😂😂
Holy molly, why don't use a classic and everywhere available plastic one? That way you never get corrosion, plus noone will ever gonna steal that. Of course isn't that beautiful, but come on, this way saves you a lot of headaches. Btw, yes, the video is interesting, keep working, your videos are always helpful.
To be honest Alberto, most people see this as a quick and easy mod and do not realize that it will cause problems. I was one of those people and now I just run the plastic ones on all my cars but this was something I needed to learn the hard way haha.. that's why I decided to make this video so that other people can learn from my mistake. Thanks for commenting btw! 👍
@@MiataMods yeah, I know a lot of people do this kind of this. It's just my brain that doesn't process this things hahaha. People tend to steal this pieces, and putting beautiful ones is not the best choice, IMO.
@@MiataMods You titled the video "How to fix a stuck corroded tire valve stem cap" and your solution was to bring it to a tire shop. I literally lost a few brain folds watching this.

That's great advice, thanks!
Ten seconds with a blowtorch-style lighter and then twisting with 2 pliers got it for me, corrosion was all the way up the threads, THANKS!!!
Great to hear it worked for you!
I'm about to try this.
Now we have established that you are as dumb as me....that literally made me laugh. Yes, I too am that dumb...or maybe I was just ignorant. I thought the fancy valve stem caps looked great with my new wheels....I didn’t realize they were permanent!😂
Welcome to the club 😂😂
You just made a 8min vid about valve caps, and it was even interesting enough to watch it completely...
Haha thanks bro, typical MiataMods vid right? 🤣

haha nice job!
Tried the pliers, tried the lighter, tried the grinder. All good. Thx :)
Haha sure man, no problem!

Yep, that's a good remark!
I came hear because my bike tires plugs where stuck and this really helped me
Ah that's good to hear man! Thanks for your comment!
Oh those curbed rims :( they make my soul ache.
Good vid tho. I actually have a leaky valve so need a new one
Yeah you can thank my ex-wife for that.. still need to buy a new set but I’m not sure which one. Thanks for watching tho 👍
Wait, do you need to pay for tire compressor at a gas station in US? In Europe (at least in Poland) it's always free.
Nope, people in my country can be very greedy so yeah, you need to pay to use the compressor 😒
@@MiataMods I dont get how someone can steal compressed air Lmao

Of course man, thanks for the help! 💪💪
All of mine are fused. I will try the heat and new plastic caps from now on.
Good luck.. did you get them off?
In my case the valve caps were brass but the stems were aluminium with a coating to make them look brass.
That sucks 😅

Good stuff! Two of my caps are stuck..looks like the same as yours but purple!
You're just as dumb as me 😜
I thought someone super glued my caps on as vandalism. You made me laugh. I wanted to kill someone, then I laughed. Thanks
Haha nope, it’s our own fault 😂
THANKYOU!!! The 2 plier method worked 👍🏽
Then you are one of the lucky ones!
Mine is stuck its a cheapy. Porsche valve cap on my Porsche cayenne. Still stuck

Now, I wear the fancy ones that are plastic.
@@MiataMods what about using these metals one with inner threads being plastic?
Would this be okay
If the inner threads are plastic it should be fine
If all else fails. I've heard c4 helps
Also I will never by cheap tire caps again. I have to bring my car in to have all valves redone...
I laugh so hard when he give the exact story that happen to me after putting in my money

I think Wd-40 may work. 😩
You do? 😅
It doesn't. Going to try my grinder tomorrow
Just heat it red hot comes off everytime

You go to the tire shop and pay the $10 to get it fixed. Why the hell do you need a premiered video for that crap
Hey Paul, u mad bruh?
not just $10
blowtorch got off the first one…broke the stem with on the last one with the pliers
Now i got a flat tire and a stuck cap🥲
Yep.. that's the risk! Did you get it fixed though?
