    I was just about to book bike in to garage to get valve changed, watched this video and realised you can change the valve stem without removing tyre. I popped down to Halfords ( 4 new stems and tool for less than 9 quid the lot) and had the job done in a few minutes. All fixed now and saved quite a bit of money. Thanks a lot.

    Great video. I had a slow leak which I determined to be the valve stem. I had loaded up the tire to take to the tire shop when I found your video. Method #3 worked for me and only took a few minutes to do. Saved me a trip to town and some money. Thanks a million.

    Some good tips there ; I have used those valve tools all my long life and never appreciated all of their functions, (especially with tubeless). A while ago I had a tubeless trailer spare with a slow leak around the rim , rather than take it to the tyre shop I tried something I’d not done before. I broke the seal on both sides of the tyre , cleaned it up as best I could then applied a generous dose of black molasses to the the seal between the tyre and the rim. I then quickly inflated the tyre , washed of the excess molasses and did the water/detergent test , no leak and is still quite ok 6 months later. Davox.

    Brilliant - 3 cheers for guys like this and RUclips. This great video just saved Christmas after 2 (large national tyre companies) turned me away with a sticking valve causing the tyre to go flat overnight. Both depots said they couldn't take any bookings until middle of next week, despite having no vehicles in the bays and 2 fitters stood around chatting! I came home, watched this great guy, went to a local accessary shop, paid £6 for the tool and 4 valve cores, fitted inside of 5 minutes - and that includes moving the car, letting the remaining air out, fitting the new core as fix 2, then refilling to pressure. job done and problem solved. Merry Christmas Dave - you're the man!👍

    Great and valuable info.
    Methods 3 and 4 are often successful.
    Tip: If you're going to get involved in this, investing in a good valve replacement tool kit, such as the Laser 5540, will make things much easier.
    Holding and manipulating the valve is far superior, and you can push the valve far into the wheel and get good access to the hole without worrying about losing the valve inside the wheel. You also have the option of replacing the valve.
    Compressed air is great for cleaning the hole and dislodging problematic stuff.
    Silicone oil spray is also a great lubricant for this kind of work (but if you plan to use gasket sealant then don't use any lubricant).

    • @JimLambier
      @JimLambier 9 месяцев назад

      I don't know about all sensors and rim combinations but on mine I know it would break the sensor. I have a small tire changing machine and have installed sensors and tires. On my wheels, there is an orientation that the sensors need and there is a relatively small amount of rotation the sensors can move before hitting the rim. Forcing them to rotate any further would break the sensor module off the metal part of the stem.

    Out of 4 fixes here, none of them are to replace the valve stem. Unfortunately, that's exactly what I came here looking for. I got a flat due to cracked rubber of the valve them and the other 3 tires look like they're going the same way.

    • @andrewdavis848
      @andrewdavis848 4 месяца назад +3

      If you crack the valve stem that means ur valve stem itself is broken. You need to buy a replacement and install it. In order to do this you need to be able to “break the bead”, which he did state at the end of the video. This essentially means you need to take the tire off of the rim, which is what happens when you get new tires or replace valve stems. Once you break the bead and can access the back end of the valve stem you’ll need to take the valve stem out completely and if you have sensors on your stem u need to detach them and attach them to the new valve stem. From the back end you insert the valve stem then pull it through. Adjust the tire so when u fill it with air it sets back into place with the valve stem in the correct position to fill the tire and not let out air. Good luck

    After topping off the pressure (before it gets too low in the freezing months), the valve didn’t close when unplugging the pump. The only thing holding in the air is the plastic cap. Jabbing the valve core didn’t help at all, driving for 20 minutes to heat it all up (thought it might just be frozen in place) didn’t help either.
    I guess I need to try fix number 2? Just buy some valve stems and the tool to swap them?
