To get fired by Prince and then go on and knock out a bunch of hits with Janet Jackson is an amazing story - worthy of a film - these guys influenced me and so many other artists and producers.

Patti Austin: the Heat of Heat! Recorded in the heart of winter ❄️🥶,in January 1986, in frigid Minneapolis, Minnesota. Wonderful song! Patti Austin didn't get the critically acclaim success that she rightfully deserve.

I think it was related to her appearance (although I always thought she’s beautiful), didn’t fit the pop singer template… She did have a huge hit alongside James Ingram with Quincy Jones.
I’ve always loved when songs are written in odd weather. Like writing summer bangers during the bleakest winter, or going to the tropics and writing sonething really dark 😅

Real cool laid back guys, must be a real comfort zone to work with these guys as they don’t have their own interests at heart, they have the artists interests at heart, and of course on a mission from God, half a tank of gas and lots of whole fried chickens 🐔…The R‘n‘B Bros.

Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are the most successful of the Prince saga...Well grounded...walking around on the platform of the coWoods...Prince got to see a branch bud out of Minneapolis...Also they champion their success and keep Prince legacy positive. They definitely have the home training disciplinary intact. Productive comfort style.

Incredible interview!! I love what Terry and Jimmy said about how they keep "current". Janet Jackson's Dammn Baby is a great example of this. Instead of creating a full Trap record, it's like they created a Janet record with just enough sprinkle of Trap beat that the Trap fans love it, but it's still very much Janet. Now today as Trap is fading, Dammn Baby still sounds great.
