For a brand new driver he did just fine. You can't start as an expert. Remember where you came from and lend some much needed advice as opposed to useless criticism. Stay safe everybody.
Bob tailing, start in 4th, skip to 6th, skip to 10th, then to twelfth and hit your splitter into 13th. Hitting all your gears is a waste of time unless your going uphill loaded.
@@Aaronhouston33 I've got to drive a crane with hendrickson rubber blocks in the morning. That's better than one of our other cranes that has a rigid walking beam, no blocks, no springs, nothing. Can only go about 45mph on good smooth roads.
I purchased a 1984 International 9670 with a 13sp Eaton Fuller trans, Big Cam 3 400. WELL I'VE GOT SOMETHING TO SAY!!! When our Model T transmission started grinding, we'd just fill the transmission full of sawdust, and it was all quiet...... So There, Ha! You heard it here first from the World's Foremost Armchair Authority on Sawdust! 🤣😂

all the complaints... he said quite clearly he had only shifted the 13 speed 3 times before making this vid. then he said several times during the vid he didnt know what he was doing. Thanks for your video! I'm glad you took it when you were still learning. It really encourages me to see that you're getting it mostly right already even with only a little practice. I mean judging from the self-described real truckers below, the only thing you have to do different is leave the trailer air valve closed when bobtail and work a bit on the clutching. Then there's trailer backing too but the COE is going to make that easier. This is obviously a machine with some real nuts on it and the clear lack of comfort and convenience features is very appealing. Cool truck buddy I’ve got one myself don’t push the red knob on the dash unless your pulling a wagon if you do you are just blowing air out the red air line on the back but love the truck and you will figure it out
I’ll give you one piece of advice about a cabover never have anything loose in the sleeper when you tilt the cab up . What’s in the sleeper will come out through the windshield!!
Not bad man you did pretty good towards the end those 13 speeds are hard to learn sometimes alot of people didnt get it on their first try but you did good
Good job bro, just like you said you got to find the Finesse between the pedal and the gears. PS the red button is for the trailer. the yellow button is for the tractor. when you are unhooked from a trailer, you only need to push the yellow button in. Pushing in the red button unhooked from a trailer will drain your air supply. take care of her you are driving a legend...
Welcome to trucking. As a new truck owner and driver, "floating" gears is a very bad habit to form. Always double clutch. It will save your drivetrain. Most guys that float gears don't own their own trucks or pay for parts, like clutches, main shafts, bearings etc. If it's a rental, then float to your hearts' content. But, in your own truck... Start in low, double clutch and never hit max revs; which on a 3406 is 1500 rpm. Sweet spot is between 1200-1400. Also, it is illegal to roll to a stop out of gear and you can be cited for violation. Always be in gear no matter what the circumstance. Cat 3406s can roll to a stop without sputtering from 8th on a 13-15 spd by my experience. Good luck!
Dead Eyes I'M a diesel mechanic for a major sand and gravel company we run c15 with Eaton fuller 9 speeds all of our drivers float the tranny and we get quite a few hundred thousand miles out of our clutches all in all it up to how bad you beat your truck's
As the saying goes, "learn to walk before you run..." Grind it 'til you find it by floating is an expensive way to learn compound shifting in "your own" tractor. 21 years OTR super load hauling up to 300 tons, but what do I know...
I know you're trying to learn it, but you can probably get away with just using the high gears when there is no load being hauled. Diesel engines are torquey beasts and would probably have no problem without a load.
Maybe start in 3rd... When empty I start in high split 3rd in my truck then the next shift is low split 5th, then straight stick it. But it’s an 18’with 4:11’s. This is a highway truck so it more than likely has taller rear gears. So 2nd or 3rd should be doable. If it feels like you’re riding the clutch, you are. Drop a gear. Doing good man, and badass cabover!!
Jesus do people no understand when he said hes only driven it a couple times? Beautiful truck man keep it up!
For a brand new driver he did just fine. You can't start as an expert. Remember where you came from and lend some much needed advice as opposed to useless criticism. Stay safe everybody.

RobertKaydoo Ooooooooo yea I still remember vividly looking in the window of my k100 to see a tv laying on the newly smashed windshield.
that old 4 and a quarter sounds nice, lots a memories in a C/O
LOVE HOW GUYS MAKE VIDEOS OF SHIFTING AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THERE TALKING ABOUT MAKES ME LAUGH SO HARD
Hes just having some fun you good for nothing dirt eating joker
Swift taught him that way
Youre an idiot. He said he'd only driven a couple of times
I really like the Cabover! Kat 3406 is a good engine for its years, but consumes a lot of fuel. We mostly love Detroit disel in Russia. Good video
They need to bring the snub nose back. Yeah, you don’t have the length regulations anymore, but god they’re so much easier to maneuver!
My first truck (Freightliner COE)had the 3406B in it. If I remember correctly it was turned up to 300hp. I don't remember how many gears.
Now you can go find John Conner
Vladimir H. T😂😂😂😂😂
Probably the Best Shifting video on a Truck, I too is Learning still..
Sweet Old Lady brother , classic will never die ! 👏👏👏👏
I bought a snow white KW just like that in 87. Happiest day is when I sold it. The only thing I miss about the truck was the cat 425
why did selling it make you happy?
If you are bobtail, why did you push in the red air button?
I thought the same thing
My Dad had a 78 Mack Cruiseliner cabover. Loved it.
Hard to beat that combination, cat+eaton fuller+kenworth= 👍🏻
Cummins+Allison can beat that combination 😂
fert just asom ñio hum pih Azor tuv jor
Not too bad for a new driver! Cool truck too
i don't care what ANYBODY says! I WANT ONE OF THOSE!!
Great looking truck. Got to love old KW's.
jesus!! a old cab over k100... my dream im jealous dude lol.
My first assigned truck was a 1987 K100 it had a 400 Cummins and a 9 speed
I had a 1973 K-125 and drove it 958000 miles!
I love the older trucks you can't beat them
When you are not loaded or Bob tailing don't split the top gears wait till u get to top gear then go to 13th u will save a lot of grinding
He was just showing off lol, and using crawler as a set off gear wandering why it crunched into 1st . Still nice to see someone using a stick though.
Cool classic truck. Looks like it takes a masters degree to figure out how to shift one of those things.
K V not as hard as you might think.
Not bad man you did pretty good towards the end those 13 speeds are hard to learn sometimes alot of people didnt get it on their first try but you did good
Really..... Try a 21 double over if a 13 is sooo hard
@@DannyAllen10271966 oh boy here we go another keyboard warrior give it a rest dude
I had to sub, I'm a little obsessed with cabovers
that's a cool old rig - hope you get some good use out of it
Welcome to trucking. Good luck!
Dead Eyes floating gears is the best way only puss double clutch
Dead Eyes I'M a diesel mechanic for a major sand and gravel company we run c15 with Eaton fuller 9 speeds all of our drivers float the tranny and we get quite a few hundred thousand miles out of our clutches all in all it up to how bad you beat your truck's
As the saying goes, "learn to walk before you run..." Grind it 'til you find it by floating is an expensive way to learn compound shifting in "your own" tractor. 21 years OTR super load hauling up to 300 tons, but what do I know...
true dat,bump dat clucth youngin
Dead Eyes
I would love to do a complete resto on that truck. Love the double bunk flat tops.
did you get your cdl at k-mart?!
Can't find'em. Grind'em
I know you're trying to learn it, but you can probably get away with just using the high gears when there is no load being hauled. Diesel engines are torquey beasts and would probably have no problem without a load.
Engine, no problem. Clutch, wont be happy in the long term but yeah. Yur right
Maybe start in 3rd... When empty I start in high split 3rd in my truck then the next shift is low split 5th, then straight stick it. But it’s an 18’with 4:11’s. This is a highway truck so it
more than likely has taller rear gears. So 2nd or 3rd should be doable. If it feels like you’re riding the clutch, you are. Drop a gear. Doing good man, and badass cabover!!
I always start in fifth gear when im bob tail.
He’s making an “ instructional “ video. 😏
