The thing that finally made it click for me that the modern writers for Spider-Man just seem to genuinely hate him, is when I saw the comic where Peter legitimately prays for God to just not make his life so terrible, and then I saw the comic where Miles got bullied, so Iron Man went to go break the dude’s spine, because “everyone likes Miles”.
It gets harder and harder to believe that the people in charge of the Spider-Man IP aren’t trying to explicitly step on the toes of the legacy that allows them to even have a job.
Like, I feel like there would be basically zero issues if Miles had a different Superhero name, and operated in a different city. Like, no one had an issue with him when he was explicitly from a parallel world, and thus, would always have to part ways if he and Peter ever crossed paths, so they could both remain separate, and not ruin the solo act of being Spider-Man, but they just couldn’t help themselves, and not only made Miles and mainstay, but have explicitly set him up as the person that is GOING to take over as the solo Spider-Man.
Like, people will always tell me that I have no reason to complain about this, because this type of thing happens in comics all the time, like with how there are multiple Flash’s, multiple Robins, and multiple Green Lanterns, to which I always respond “Yeah, and that’s why literally none of those characters you just listed have ever been popular enough to have a successful solo film, while Spider-Man/Peter Parker is one of the most universally recognized fictional characters in human history.”

Whenever somebody brings up the whole "multiple Flash/Green Lanterns/Robins" rebuttal, I always just tell them that Spider-Man is tied to Peter Parker; where those other superhero titles are just mantles. So, having multiple Spider-Men simultaneously in the same universe feels weird. Same goes for having multiple Batmen

Finally someone who actually BOLD enough to say that theres a mountain of problem in the modern Spider-man potrayals. I always said this to my friends and other communities but they straight up denied it and saying that Im a racist for not liking Miles, but the actual problem not in Miles but in how they reduce Spider-Man's urgency close to nothing.
Spider-Man appeal not in how big the threat is, nor how many they r, nor the team up with other heroes. Its how he struggling with personal life and Superhero life. That's why Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2 is the best Spider-Man movies to date bc how good they approach this problem. Insomniac Spider-Man doing a good job for it but blew it when they bring up Miles in the spin off and sequel.
Good Superhero movies doesnt have to be on a cosmic or multiverse level, seeing the hero struggling with their own life is one recipe too. Thats also why I still loves Netflix Daredevil series. It kills me how Disney butchered him, but well just pretend that doesnt exist. These two, Spider-Man 2 and Daredevil, are my favorite Superhero show to date. As for now there's no hope for a good Spider-Man potrayals in modern media as long as Multiverse exist and Miles ofc. Rewatching these old media is the only way ig.

When spider-man homecoming came out and i watched it i thought "damn they turn Peter into Miles" and at that time not many people knew about Miles and definitely less in my country. They give him fat, smart, asian friend who literaly looked one to one like Miles friend Ganke, he helps him with crime fighting lioke Ganke, they made that Tony watches over him and made him suit and he preparing him to become part of the Avengeres, like in the comics Nick Fury watched over Miles, gave him the suit, wanted that he became the Avenger. And for me MCU spider-man not Peter Parker but a race and name swapped Miles. In the MCU movies he always needs help, he always makes his friends and loved ones be a part of his super hero life without consequences Aunt May discovers that Peter is Spider-man, she likes it and supports him SHE LITERALY THE ONE THAT GAVE HIM THE SUIT TO ANOTHER COUNTRYWHILE HE WAS IN A SCHOOL TRIP she wants him to be Spider-man she doesn't scare about him, she doesn't think that it is to dangerous, no lets give the suit to my nephew who literaly fought the war to save the univers, 'dies', ressurect conveniently with all his friends, loved ones and other people he knew and nobody scared for him, not even him that much. I grew up with 90s and spectacular cartoons and Sam Raimi movies my spider-man doesn't need help of people without powers because he hepls them not other way, my spider-man doesn't need help with science from friends, he smart enough, or when he doesn't he goes to real scientist like Connors, my spider-man afraid that people around him discovers his identity because he would put them in danger or simply made them worry about him. And the problem is in modern spider-man universes they made him look more like Miles and Miles more like Peter. I dislike Miles he is not original like Miguel O'Hara or even like Ben Reily who literaly Parker clone, his powers is to OP and he never uses them, his entire point is i'am like Peter but black, especialy after games and animated movie. In comics when his uncle dies he is afraid that he can become like him in the movie his uncle who helped kill his spider-man, who tried to kill him, and he knew he is just a kid, HE DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM TO KILL A CHILD, but he has a problem to kill his nephew, no shit. The problem with Ben Riely wasn't that it's wrong for Peter to pawn off his responsibilities as Spider-Man to someone else. In fact, Peter leaving to be a full time dad was a "great responsibility" arc, and one that worked well for the character as the MC2s premise.
Rielys problem (and this applies to Miles to honestly) is he just wasn't Peter Parker. Not really. Not even if you try and sell your audience on the idea Peter was the Clone all along. It doesn't matter. Peter is the one we've been reading the continuous canon of for 30+ years. Peter's the one who got married, who rustled with the symbiote, who held the Captain Universe powers, who dated Black Cat, who visited a terminally I'll kid in the hospital, who stopped Juggernaut in cement all by himself because he had to, who begrudgingly accepted Kingpin taking power again alongside Daredevil because of the way the gang wars panned out. Try and swap to another completely new character with totally unrelated supporting cast from the world building were invested in and it causes a huge disconnect for the reader.
And trying to present this new Spider-Man as the "real" one was just a insult on top of the injury and trying to get rid of Peter Parker and retire him, making current day readers from the 90s resent Riely at the time. Today we look back and realize he was a great character and maybe we lost a lot of good potential from him.

So I’ll argue the point of why Miles should still be around. Firstly there’s multiple spider-people that pre date miles that have similarities to Peter so saying “we’ve seen this before with Peter” can be used for Miguel and mayday for example, I’m assuming you’re only talking about him because of his popular media which is fair.
Secondly I don’t agree he’ll fade out because he was decently received in the comics (at least enough to bring him in 616) and that was before the movie and games dropped, so now he’s even more popular than ever so the odds of miles being gone is next to none, he’s only gotten more popular.
Thirdly you say “why should we keep miles” to see a Spider-Man grow, idk if you’ve been reading his comics but he’s grown a lot like how Peter used to. Which makes modern Pete stories worse because he’s going through the same BS that he already should’ve overcame. With miles tho we’re seeing him growing into being a better hero and person.
Sure it’s not perfect and yeah you can argue Peter’s stuff is better but that doesn’t take away that miles is the only currently running spidey book where he’s actually growing (aside from the new ultimate spidey book which is 🔥 btw) at least in 616.
Also side note miles can be used as the modern teen spidey for audiences while Pete would be the adult spidey. Granted that would mean you’d need to get actual good writers for Pete but at least there’s ultimate Spider-Man 😂.

I think you underestimate the appeal of Peter Parker to attract young fans. Why do you think it's Peter whose promoted above Miles in most of the merchandise? Because he attracts a bigger audience because of his appeal. Hell, they have slap Miles' name above Spider-Man just to remind people he exists. Also, there's big difference between Peter and Miles: Peter was created as a relatable everyman character with universal appeal while Miles was created as a political tool because Obama got into the White House. I feel like some arguments for Miles will be far better if they were compared to Miguel O'Hara as an Alternative Spider-Man, rather than Peter Parker as a Mainline Spider-Man.

No one wants to admit it, but the real reason they’re pushing Miles so hard is because Peter is going to become public domain in only a few decades. Miles can be the new main Spider-Man for at least another century, so they’re starting early to phase Peter out by making Miles the “cooler” Spider-Man, and it’s actually working because they took the race angle with marketing him.

There was significant backlash and racism when he first appeared. He’s popular NOW because the character is well written and had two successful movies at a time where Spider-Man centric movies were less than ideal. If you’re gonna cry your fanboy tears let your tears fall where legitimate criticism lies and stop taking the “race-angle”.

I'm so glad you made this. I am so sick of Miles Morales. He (as well as the entire concept of the spider-verse) is just a cheap knock-off of Peter, a much better character. The only time I liked the spider-verse was in the 90's cartoon. Why do modern Spider-Man stories hate Peter Parker? To me, one of the most interesting parts of Peter is that he can never take a break. He must be a hero, whether he wants too or not. That's why "Spider-Man No More" from the 60's worked so well. The same thing has happened to Captain America with the MCU. His classic version (which is timeless) is considered "outdated".

Miles has Peters powers but stronger with invisibility, electric and better spider sense and has beaten Peter in every fight they have had.
Silk has Peters powers but also has natural webshooters from her fingers and can produce different webbing and was able to easily beat an electro in her first fight while Peter got easily beaten despite never being in a real fight before.

Peter's greatest flaw has always been that he takes the lesson of "with great power comes great responsibility" too far, to the point of being self-destructive and inadvertently hurting those who care about him. You can't effectively help other people if you never take care of yourself, and Peter has had enough mental breakdowns over the years to attest to that.
Thats why I wish they would just let Peter semi-retire to raise a family and mentor some younger heroes. Instead of constantly screwing him over with bullshit like selling his marriage to the devil and whatnot.

You can have Peter be married and have kids while still being Spider-Man. That actually opens the book up to many stories. The character always had a steady progression. • @Tb1025
      @Tb1025 Месяц назад +1

I don’t think Peter should retire tho. Having Peter “grow” is not a synonym for retirement. People don’t understand that when Stan Lee made Peter he wanted to make a super hero that felt real. Life is filled with sorrow. But it is also filled with joy, the early books knew this and had a good mix of both. The Stan Lee run of Spider-Man read like a soap opera. That’s why it was the best.

    Finally someone says it.
I think one of the worst defenses I have ever heard is from a RUclipsr (don’t remember the name, maybe I’ll add it on the edit) that made a video on whether on Spiderman and how there “is no issues with Spiderman ‘retiring’ and leaving the mantle for Miles even for a short period of time. I don’t remember the videos name, but in said same video he hypocritically turns and round and vividly criticized fans for gettin upset over the fact that they didn’t want Jessica Drew (probably got the last name wrong) from across the Spiderverse for not taking time off being spiderwoman due to the fact that she was pregnant. And his defense of this was simply that, and I quote (I think)
“She can’t just give the job as Spiderman up for her baby”
Firstly completely ignoring the fact that the fans criticizing her being spiderwoman as pregnant like for example the critical drinker, criticize that because it’s obviously an extremely risky thing to put an unborn child in the line of fire and combat with you. And he also forgets the fact that another time in the video he also criticizes fans for getting upset for retiring for completely logical reasons. So it makes sense for Peter to retire from being Spiderman just to have some time to reflect and live his personal life, but it doesn’t make sense for a pregnant woman to retire because her being spider woman while pregnant puts the baby in danger?
Very interesting. People will say anything to defend dumb stuff like this in the new Spiderman stories.

I like a Spiderverse story every now and then, we had them in the classic Spider-Man cartoon and games like Shattered Dimensions. But we're getting to the point where we never see Peter alone anymore. Reminder that no film since (arguably) Far From Home has been a solo Spidey story, and that's half a decade ago. Endgame was a big crossover, then we had No Way Home which was a Spiderverse story, then the 2 Spiderverse Miles films with a 3rd one planned, the new Spider-Man game made Peter look like a chump even when bonded with the symbiote and MJ and Miles had bigger roles than they should...
It's ridiculous. One of the most admirable things about Peter is that most of the time, he can only rely on himself. People helping him or making his personal life easier should be a rare occasion.
Like MJ Watson said at the end of Spider-Man 2, "isn't it about time someone saved your life?" She says that after an ENTIRE MOVIE of Peter getting hurt both physically and emotionally.

Miles needs to study, hang with friends, practice for his dream job, and go to school. Peter needs to work a solid 8 hours and be with friends and family for other hours. MJ also needs to work.
This doesn't fix Miles's predicament of being Peter but darker but it would allow for that sacrifice to still be there without saying that "Miles can do all the work old man"
Idk 😐 this might just be me but the ideas aren't bad ... it's the execution.

You nailed it. Well said. I find the Spiderverse movies entertaining, but there's always felt like there was something off about the concept of multiple Spider heroes. It cheapens Peter as a character, which isn't uncommon for a lot of heroic characters these days. So tired of race being used as a shield or justification for that. It's like that's all these "modern" creators have instead of the talent and creativity to make new characters that are actually interesting and whose visual attributes are incidental.
