Oh, man! It never even occurred to me to use my TV remote to control my streaming device. After watching this video, I immediately tried my DirecTV remote in "TV mode", and it controlled most of my Tivo Stream 4k via CEC. That tip alone was worth the price of watching this video. It would be great to be able to purchase an extra, real Chromecast Google TV remote. The Fire remote does work, but the voice control is really slick. Also, the android remote app works -- but there is no volume control.

Hate the volume buttons location so I returned it. A fan of TiVo Stream 4K but it currently has a bug with playing RUclips TV. I'm sure they'll fix it soon but til then... Decided to get 2 Mecool KM2s for about $65 each during their Father's Day special. Doesn't have much storage but it comes with ports for extra storage and a bunch of other specs.

I bought a replacement remote but it's a clone. Most functions work, but volume and power only works for IR for some strange reason. It's also very laggy compared to the original. Sometimes it repeats presses multiple times. And the LED design is completely different.
I use my Samsung tv remote to control chromecast. It has much better placement of volume controls and has much better ergonomic and feel. And all controls work, i did not have to do any settings, just plug in my chromecast. Also the samsung remote has solar panel and usb c for charging if the need be. Only thing that doesn't work is google assistant for which i have google nest hub, which works without pressing any button 🙂.

Have a vodafone branded android tv box which has a ir/bluetooth remote. It doesn't seem to want to pair. When I the remote in pairing mode (which on this one is done by pressing home and ok), the google chromecast doesn't see the remote at all when searching for bluetooth accessories.

It used to work with two remotes, but sometime in 2021 an update changed that. Now, if you pair a second remote, the first remote becomes unpaired. Hi Brett, im trying to successfully use a harmony elite remote as replacement for original chromecast with google tv remote. ive managed to pair the harmony with the chromecast as evidenced on the chromecast page that the logitech keyboard is paired. but none of the buttons on the harmony operate any part of the chromecast whatsoever. this is hugely disappointing as even logitech themselves dont know what is wrong. i would greatfully appreciate your help Thanks Heaps
So that integration is from a RUclips TV subscription. After subscribing it added the tab and has some pretty deep integration. Hopefully I can cover soon.
I've read if you long press the youtube button you can assign the button to RUclipsTV. I'm not getting the option to assign the button to YTTV? Did they remove this function?
Hi Brett, my samsungs remote doesnt work allthough it CEC. Its a high end tv of 2018 so should work just fine i think. I've checked and anynet+ is activated on the tv and hdmi-cec is enabled on the chromecast with google tv. On my old chromecast v3 i think i could pause and play. Great video but I have a question. I am able to use my Samsung remote easily enough but if I use it to turn off the power, there seems to be a glitch of some sort. When I now use the Samsung remote to turn the TV back on, it tells me the source is not found. The Chromecast does eventually turn on but it takes about a minute. If I use the Chromecast remote, it turns right on with no source issue. I have an 2020 8series Samsung. Have you seen this on your Samsung TV?

No only way is if you had already backed everything up. You can check Google Photos, Samsung Cloud, or One Drive to see if you have a backup from your computer. If there are no there they are most likely gone without having the physical phone to check for backups.
I had this exact problem. It took a lot of tinkering, but I found a work-around that’s working for me. In the Android Harmony app, choose “devices,” (it’s at the top of the screen) then “edit devices,” (scrolled all the way down at the bottom of the screen) then “google media player.” I got a screen with several options, one of which was “power settings.” Select that, go through the options and eventually you will get a screen where You can add modifications to the power-on and power-off commands. My theory is that since the chromecast remote works via Bluetooth it has to wake up when the remote tells it to power on, and the harmony’s power on command is too quick. I experimented with increasing the duration of the power on/off commands or having the remote send a harmless command (I chose “navigate up) to wake the chromecast, followed by a one second delay before the power on command. Your mileage may very, but please give both methods a try if you’re still having this problem.

It's not so easy on a Xiaomi Mi Box S. I discovered that to get a second remote to connect, you have to power down the first one. Then it detects the presence of the new one and lets you pair. When you turn on the original one, it is also paired. !!BUT!! When you add a third one this way (power down the two exiting ones, add third, power back up), it kicks off one of the two previous ones. The newly added third one works, but only one out of the two existing ones is connected. Bummer. You can't add remotes through the BT accessory flow like in this video; it simply doesn't work.
Also, with two remotes connected, voice control works only with one of them. This is not a hardware problem. I can swap around the remotes and get voice to work on any of the remotes, just not on two at the same time.
Works here too, with samsung remote, but... home button doesn't work, if pressed, the tv goes to ...home... I wish that could be avoided,... but I guess that's not possible...?
@@W3c16B nope. If there is an exit button though, that might be a useful button. With the 3rd Gen Chromecasts I could quit whatever I was casting by pressing the Exit button, which would take me back to what passed as a Homescreen on the V1-V3 Chromecasts.

I've found it. I've used another hdmi port and it works now. But only some buttons seem to work
