    I'd keep the heads yellow. Like you said, there's way more expression and are more common. Plus, it saves on money that can be used for buying parts for other armies/projects or buying the barding for the horses. You can always buy the new heads at a later date, but they aren't a priority.

    I think the king looks really good the way he is. He seems noble, rather than cliche. Everyone uses the crown/beard combo for their kings.

    I think keeping the yellow figures would be best. While natural skin tones would allow for more variety, you can easily show different cultures by use of clothing and accessories. Not to mention, when using colors like olive green, your characters stand out much more and adds to the contrast between your character and the less saturated background.

    For the cavalry you should put spears similar to one that you already gave to other minifigures, but longer and instead of just a yellow flag, also add a black one.

    Wow, hat army is HUGE now! I personally would definitely stick to yellow heads, not just because I think they look better but also there's so much more types. (though some of the ones from Prince of Persia could work great I think).
    And the MOC is really cool too, I love the colors.
    It would be really nice to have a Raven Knight included in next years Market set, but that's really unlikely :(

    I'd go with yellow heads, like you said bigger variety and less $$$. But skin tone does look great. Great techniques used to create a diverse and unique army. I've had the same issue building a small army of tournament knights as well, trying to keep the numbers of all my castle armies down to keep them scaled similarly.

    Army looks amazing!!, I love the nordic/middle eastern inspiration and I think it sets the factions apart really well!, and for the calvary I also liked the the idea of them using maces ( another way to lean into that middle eastern inspiration ) sheep herder moc shame to see it tear-downed. For inspiration the smallest Disney wish set I think could be good inspiration for a Raven or even Orcish settlement as it feels like something from the Middle East as well.
    Now the elephant in the room…do I think you should switch to realistic skin tones, well while I really like the verity of yellow, I also like the diversity of realistic skin tones!, I have seen people put POC heads along side yellow without basic flesh tan but idk if never liked that way of doing it. Though with the hairstyle you chose for the people of the Bone iles I think (?) they were meant to be people of darker skin forgive me if I’m wrong. Though they also seem to be Celtic inspired!
    But yes I think switching to realistic would be a good choice!, but that’s just my opinion:)

    My largest Lego castle army is four guys lol. But that’s fine for me I just love this so much! I think the cavalry should use long spears or axes. I think the axes fit the black ravens. Also making custom long axes is easy because axe parts are somewhat common in sets.

    I've been looking forward to this video for a while! This raven army is just a work of art. I love all the detail and the lore you've packed into this, and you've seriously become a massive inspiration for me creating my own medival mocs/lore. Your video about the peasant town and how you did so much just working with what you have personally inspired my own Raven Knight lore. I only was able to pick up 2 while series 20 was on shelves, bc of covid, but I just made that a part of my lore. I have the Raven Knights not being a faction, but being 2 mercenary brothers who are the most skilled warriors in my lore. The fact that I don't have a lot of these just makes my world more creative and unique. Thanks for putting out all these awesome videos, I always enjoy them so much!

    Your Black Raven army looks amazing. Really beautiful work. Well done! I do have one of the original Tourney Knight CMFs. I can't afford an army... However, I make what I call a "Delegation" for LEGO series that I missed, and have to go back and buy third market. I try to get a 3-5 member group together that represents the major types of characters from that line. So I'd try to get a major character/leader (like the king, queen, or hero knight), then a basic knight (swordsman), an archer (or bow/crossbow), and then a basic infantryman (spearman or guard), for the Fantasy Era, I'd try to get the faction's wizard too. So I got three each Lion Knights, Dwarves, Orcs, Crown Knights, etc. Anyway, I already got one Raven CMF... I could probably get afford another, then MOC a knight with PDG Plate Armor to hide a plain torso as you have for you cavalry... Something like that, I suppose. I'll think about it. Thanks for the ideas. P.S. Stick with yellow heads.

      @@Cortesevasive I have one of the Viking CMF. I can see why you like it. Agreed that the features like dual molding and cape are amazing. I do prefer the Vampire Knight. I have three so far (don't know if I'll get more... maybe... they really are great!). I also have two classic Basils (one with cape, one without) from small Fright Knight sets I bought back in the day (a polybag and a Shell Gasoline set). I have a couple other classic Fright Knights, including the Witch. She's another fantastic figure... Her spider cape is my favorite.

      Cha, yeah I also have a fright witch, given for free during christmas in some event. Never knew what it was for all those years.I was literally in primary school or sth.
      Where I live weirdly not many supermarkets carry cmf25. I been to one toy store and it was all fished out and the saleslady told that already where been more than one guys fishing with apps xD; and supermarkets dont have them at all. I seen one biggest one had them but all in plastic security boxes and with small codes. Awesome stuff man! super jealous!. as far as fancy weapons go I like the ''machete polearm''. where you use a standard stick/staff/bar a handle piece and a machete on top. personally i don't like that the machete handle shows but one can cover it up with one of the round 1x1 studs that have a hole through the middle of em ( i don't know the technical terms but i'm sure you'll know what i mean)

  • @matthewneuendorf5763
    @matthewneuendorf5763 7 месяцев назад +1

    If you use a lance and spear, you can connect them with a technic pin. It scales much better to cavalry than the lance alone. I also recommend either ninjago sabers or kopeshes for sidearms.
    I have switched entirely from the single-piece Dane axes to the brown shaft with separate ax head. You can also use either light saber blades or shoto saber blades for battle ax and throwing ax builds using the same ax head.
    I prefer yellow heads, but flesh tones can enable ethnic visual distinction. My biggest problem is that there isn't a good balaclava head in flesh colors (meaning the right color and style of balaclava). All I can use is the old Life on Mars balaclava head. If you don't have similar issues, then Star Wars sets are probably the best source of heads, parts for stone buildings, and alternative medieval-ish body parts (outside of targeted brick link orders, of course). You might get more mileage out of Mando and Knights of Ren sets than others. I've been considering using mandolorian minifigs as a medieval faction instead of space. They make for a nice Crusader-style faction with the wide variety of colors and the helmet design.
    The pavises look good. For the light crossbowmen, you might look at a micro build that holds a couple of spears at an angle, something that each guy could carry and drop in front of himself to ward off cavalry (like the longbowmen at agincourt). It would give them a little something extra while keeping them more distinct from the arbalest-and-pavise guys.
    Horses don't like camels much (I think it's the smell). Training can overcome that, but you might look at getting a few more camels and dividing your cavalry. Given the moorish inspiration, maybe turn the horsemen into archers and keep the camelry as lancers. That can save you from having to acquire barding for the horses, too.
    If you decide to take the advice of another commenter and draw inspiration from the varangians, the spectacle helm is a great choice to set that unit apart from the rest of the army. The character of that unit was explicitly a foreign guard and mercenary heavy infantry corps (in part to keep them out of politics because nobody would stand for barbarians interfering). This might be a good place for orc auxiliaries.

    • @Goldfyre
      @Goldfyre  7 месяцев назад +1

      Oh my goodness, great analysis as always! It must of slipped my mind that lego made a Khopesh piece. That would be perfect for some of the cavalry.
      I'd love to grab a few more camels (one in regular tan would be nice) but they are harder to come by then horses. I think the varangian inspiration would be great for kings guard/watchmen type characters.

    If you want, there are some dark red soft capes from the Harry Potter line. Also, the warhammer for the cav leader is probably not the most realistic, but it could just be a stylistic choice. Some lances would look amazing on the cav. I also love the color coordination for the light bowmen, and I don’t think dark red hands are too necessary for them. The orc foreign legion looks really good though. Question: When ordering parts/figs, Lego PAB or bricklink?

    Suggestion:
    Swap the helmets between og knights and the horsemen. The great helms are more of a heavy knightly cavalry helmet. Also the open faced barbute style helmets would give the infantry better visibility and ability to breath better (both are more important when fighting on foot rather than on a horse. This would just give a more realistic or historical look. Or I'd suggest at least swapping a couple helmets to lessen the uniformity, which wasn't really a thing in medieval armies.
    Also give the horsemen lances, maybe one handed maces or swords. A mace can be made by putting a 3647 gear piece at the end of a stick

    Goldfyre I suggest for this army that you use the hufflepuff quidditch torso as it matches the colour scheme and could fit in well a set that it comes in is set 76416. Anyway keep up the great work

    • @Goldfyre
      @Goldfyre  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah i've seem this torso before and it looks great but sadly the color is regular yellow so it's not quite right imo. I really like the quidditch Slytherin torso for a custom green snake faction tho

    The contrast of real skin tones with the yellow armor is 100% worth it. I started with yellow heads in my own collection and tried to go down that line and really wasn’t feeling it. The moment I switched to realistic skin tones I fell in love, it makes the world feel more diverse and real. You can use the yellow heads with the fawn horns and make an entirely new race, that’s my plan for my yellow heads/torsos. Also it lets you use minifig yellow as a color more reliably.
    It does really suck to lose the queen’s face though, I have that head too and was sad to not use it

    • @Goldfyre
      @Goldfyre  7 месяцев назад

      Yeah the realistic tones really work so much better with the ravens. Lion knights & Forestmen look great in yellow but I think the falcons and ravens look much nicer with skin tone heads.

    i just hope that lego makes a new lego castle line and uses the more detailed printing they’ve been using for the cmfs. trying to army build older ones is just ridiculously expensive. even the viking cmf is like $30 makes me so sad

    Awesome Video!
    About the heads though, I'd stick to the yellow heads... I don't usually seperate them much, in my collection and displays you'll see both yellow and realistic skins all around and mixed up, but I think that keeping the yellow tone helps a little more getting the Lego aesthetic accross, though I will admit it looks kinda funky with the knights' attire being yellow as well, but I wouldn't mind it.

    • @Goldfyre

      Yeah the only issue with the ravens is that the yellow heads tend to blend in a bit with their armor

    Lances would be the perfect weapon to arm your cav, though custom built warhammers and waraxes which were used by cav would look rll cool.

    The MOC you made of the Raven Knights marching into battle could be modified so that they're marching through the forest instead, with some kind of creature lurking in the trees or the bushes, waiting to strike at any unsuspecting passersby, possibly even including the Raven Knights themselves, perhaps.

    I’ve been using yellow heads for humans and dwarfs in my fantasy world and realistic heads for my elves. The reason for this is simply put elf ear pieces are stupidly expensive and hard to come by so I’m using the skin color as a distinction.
