I'm wondering, is it not common to clap in the rhythm of the song wherever you're from? It's common here in Czechia. It might be a leftover from the communist era reflecting in NK as well. Although here it's mostly older people and every single time there's a group of people clapping off beat which couldn't happen in NK.
Of course in NK they have to do it and they don't look happy at all but the clapping didn't strike me as very strange in this case

For the past months I have been learning everything about NK. Have watched almost all reputable docos on youtube and many of Yeonmi Park’s interviews.
I must say that since, NK’s reality haunts me everyday. I think about those people everyday. Their suffering, deprivation of the real world and, most importantly, their helplessly silenced voices.
Yeonmi is an inspiration and beautiful lady inside and out. And it makes me think of how many more beautiful people will never have the chance to even be known of their existence to the rest of the world.
I pray this suffering ends soon.
Seeing NK liberated during my lifetime is my biggest dream.
What scares me more, that it is an example of a long working dictatorship with no ends to be seen (like 1984) the fact that it is possible and might come to your country , scares the sh*** out of me... :/

In 2014, I spent 6 months in that country and found it a fascinating place. And this video reminds me of performances that us few foreigners who worked there had to attend, some of which were boring but the music ones were excellent and enjoyable.

Some from the USA, several from Canada, a few from Aussie and NZld and one from S.Africa. and Finland (me). I got on well with my Korean colleagues, although on some occasion I 'blew my mind' and told them after the xth electricity cut "nothing works here". On one occasion we discussed with English-speaking students (only young men taller than 170 cm are allowed into English classes) whether it was wise to send rockets into space, if the result is more embargos, trade restrictions etc by theUSA. And the result was: "We are an independent country; not a colony of the USA"! They are right, aren't they?

После концертов бурно обсуждали каждого, кто как двигался, как посмотрел, как открывал рот. Надеюсь не будет даже короткого возврата к прошлому. Сейчас много ностальгии по прошлому. I'm Romanian. My country used to resemble North Korea. In those times, women had respectable jobs: scholars, engineers, gymnasts.
After the Socialist Republic was abolished, things degenerated socially, fast. They found it easier to just sell their looks, their bodies. With the rise of the bimbo, the Romanian woman was definitely downgraded from her previously respectable role in society. That's capitalist "culture" for you..
