Just saw them on Saturday (10/30/21) night in Carrboro, NC. They sounded every bit as good live as they did here on EXP. I’m 53 and told Ian he took me right back to 1985.
Just discovered this band today -- all I can say is WOW. Transporting this 62-year old rock 'n roller right back to the very best of new wave 80s. Wonderful music.
If you ever have the chance, definitely see these guys live. As good as they sound on their albums, something about the energy of their live shows take their sound to the next level. Love you, bud.
Just saw them in Primavera in Barcelona, they are really outstanding live! I listened to their albums afterwards on spotify, and I somehow don’t find the same energy and depth of the voice there
I can only imagine. Just watching through my phone I can feel the energy! Found them from one song and now I’m hooked. I was born in 88 and missed that entire genre but their music makes me long for a time I didn’t experience but for some reason miss.
Just "discovered" this band a couple weeks ago and I can't get enough, they are amazing. I feel like I'm 15 again listening to my boom box in my bedroom...so much 80's synthpop goodness!
I had thought I was too old to discover something new that could make me rethink my long-standing favorite band status... This band has put all of my favorites on notice.
The way they played "Across that fine line" was just brilliant for a live performance and John is absolutely right when he says they just cannot hide the feelings
Beautiful! Reminds me of being 16 in the mid 80s and living in Evansville, IND, listening to the collage radio station WUEV to a program that was on about 9-12 that played everything from Eno and The Residents to this kind of thing, and being blown away by all these amazing and exotic sounds. Thanks for this! :D KEXP is the modern John Peel, and all those people on late night radio, who dared play this music. XoXo!
Been listening to this on repeat for over a month now! Hope to see them live soon. Thanks to KEXP for introducing yet another quality band. The sound engineering here to die for as always : )
Everybody has already said everything I've heard and felt listening to this upload from John and KEXP featuring Nation of Language. It's like she said.. cathartic. Across That Fine Line. Amazing. Amazing. I've already pre-ordered the vinyl! 😁 Thank you, KEXP! Thank you Nation of Language! Best of luck and success to you! Hope to see you live someday. 💙
This sounds so good! I just saw Nation of Language play live in San Diego last week, and the sound was so amazing live also! Such a great band to see live if possible.
i knew within seconds that this was my new favourite song as i turned the volume all the way up. I love everything they have made actually, but this one made me cry tears of joy because of the music . Great vocals also. Tight band. Hope to see in a venue if its not crowded . Such a great sound overall .
This "joy division" bassline, this keyboards arrangements and this voice, just wow.
i am a 50 year old public school teacher, lamenting my life choices but this band makes me happy.
...teachers should be thanked for their service
You’re a teacher who loves cool music, you sound amazing to me.
You don’t realize it, but you have made a difference in the lives of many young people. There’s not a higher calling than teaching.
strange how one of the greatest bands from the 80s is born almost 40 years later....
Up there with OMD, New Order, Psych Furs
I have no words. "The wall and I" is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard in my life
I'm 59, hearing this makes me feel like I'm 19 again, what a GREAT band. Thank you KEXP.
Im 61 and a loyal fan
I’m 55 and cannot believe how amazing they sound.
I'm 51.. from the beginning I thought about what reminds me of some sounds from the 80s, with simple details that achieve so much together.
Ha ha I am almost 59 and discovered this band recently on Spotify. Excellent live sound.
Just saw them on Saturday (10/30/21) night in Carrboro, NC. They sounded every bit as good live as they did here on EXP. I’m 53 and told Ian he took me right back to 1985.

The sound engineering is godly here, heads up to people behind the scenes.
KEXP consistently has amazing sound in their studio!
A lot easier to get this sound without a loud acoustic drum kit in the room. I dig this very much. Well done
@@johnthebigtree digging the mpc that does so much work
Absolutely, hats off to the engineers, first class production!
Thats why we watch KEXP vids...recording studio quality...pumped right into your home. If youve got decent system..its as good as being there!
Of all the great bands I’ve discovered on KEXP, Nation of Language is my favorite.
Words dont do justice to how incredible this band are.
Across that fine line - 0:32
Wounds of love - 6:23
This fractured mind - 10:10
The wall and I - 15:54
Cheers for the times, how good are this lot 👌
thanks for the names of the songs. you rock!
If you ever have the chance, definitely see these guys live. As good as they sound on their albums, something about the energy of their live shows take their sound to the next level. Love you, bud.
YES! Saw them a couple weeks ago in Seattle... They were amazing! They even had the "too cool for school" Seattleites bouncing up and down!
Just saw them in Primavera in Barcelona, they are really outstanding live!
I listened to their albums afterwards on spotify, and I somehow don’t find the same energy and depth of the voice there
Yeah you don't expect synth pop to transfer so well to a live show, but at OFF the sound was fantastic and it's just the three of them..
I saw them this weekend in Nottingham, UK. I agree completely - they're brilliant live.
The wall and I is maybe one of the best songs ever
Reminds me of the first times I saw Depeche Mode and OMD in London 1980. Same raw synthy energy, beautiful melody and just great lyrics. Brilliant.
The 80's vibe is very pleasant ... great performance, kudos to the technicians as well!
Eu amo muito essa banda ! Foi essencial no meu ano de 2021 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
60, and I really like em.
This is incredible. I love this band as much as I adore KEXP for their enduring celebration of music + creators of music.
There is a lot of good music out right now… but I can’t remember the last time I was this excited for a release! Great performance!
PERFECT SYNTH FUCKING 80 SOUND :I WANT MORE;SEE YOU IN HAMBURG
I’m 62 and feel the same Saw NOL in Sept at Heaven London and reminded me of seeing New Order in 81 there too. Just fantastic
The love children of Talk Talk, Blancmange, and It's Immaterial. I'm on board.
When I hear a new band like Nation of Language, I go to KEXP to see if they have performed in studio. Yep, there they are! My new favourite band!
Thank you for this beautiful music. Fantastic.
Finally! My favorite band on KEXP! Holy sh!t I waited so long for this :'(
Wow, they've turned 1981 to 2021 in one performance. 40 years after the originals this lot have made it ORIGINAL again. Cheers Milky for the tip :)
Never heard of this band till today. What a GREAT performance and huge voice!
I had thought I was too old to discover something new that could make me rethink my long-standing favorite band status... This band has put all of my favorites on notice.
I'm 54 mate ... And this sound took me back ... When I was 13 ...Great!!!!
Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark 2021!
I wish I was 17 again so I could put their posters on my wall and put at least one of their songs in every frickin' mix tape I ever made!
You can still do that!
@@Pixelslet I should! 😁
I am obsessed with Nation of Language and this upcoming album!!! GAH!
I’m gonna savor every second of this performance.
This is one of those bands that gets better every time I listen. Mike is a great bass player, and Ian and Aidan are the power couple of 2021. :-)
When that bass hook kicks in in Wall & I .....
The way they played "Across that fine line" was just brilliant for a live performance and John is absolutely right when he says they just cannot hide the feelings
The chorus on Across that fine line just hits! Gets a dance out of me every time!
This is one of the greatest sets I've seen in a while.
Brilliant band,,,,, public service broadcasting ,,gig lastnight ,,,,,this great band came over the sound system,,,, great tunes ,all the best,,,
KEXP always brings it with the engineering. Greetings from Brooklyn. This band is as solid as they ever were in the 80s!
Sweet, that bassman is holding it DOWN, nice! This is some great work

Still going strong. Bob Moog would be proud. She's ace isn't she? Thanks KEXP for another brilliant session! ❤
Saw them live tonight in Newcastle and I've honestly never heard someone as vocally gifted live as Ian is. What a privilege.
Post-Millenials please keep creating music like this.
I grew up listening to New Wave in my parents' cars and this brought me back. I love this band. Can't wait to see them live.

the 80's are back! hooray!! This guy sounds a lot like the singer in OMD. Cool band. I love KEXP
I hear more Alphaville, but definitely a wonderful mix of every great 80's synth band, including OMD.
This is as close to recreating the 80's as it gets!!!
obsessed with them
What a lovely discovery. Thank you, KEXP Team.
This sounds so good! I just saw Nation of Language play live in San Diego last week, and the sound was so amazing live also! Such a great band to see live if possible.
I was there👍🏻
GREAT that the sessions are back and what a fantastic band to kick off with!
It's 1984 all over again. I'm OK with that.
Im ok with it too but I had stop for a while and take a deep breath
1980 I'd say ...

Last time round we called them Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark.
Interesting bass rhythm on that first track.. that subtle fast chug.. Cool stuff

Just discovering this incredible band, can't wait they visiting France for a live tour !

They were good in SF on Oct. 17. KEXP needs to have the band that opened, Public Practice, in here.
Public Practice are amazing!

Sounds so GOOD! Better than the studio recordings.
Nation of language... they are perfect
properly stoked to be seeing them in Manchester in the UK in Jan 22 cant wait
If you have any spares for that Manchester gig I'd buy them . I missed out as it sold out. If not enjoy the gig.
@@phillipmanning4995 sorry no only got the 2 fingers crossed they come over still, hope you get sorted
@@darrendunn54 yea fingers crossed for you. I know it's a really small venue so don't think they'll be many spares flying about.
@doug Riparetti - absolutely. This band miraculously emerged from a time machine circa 1985.
Beyond. So much love for this.
Reminds me when the British started this style in the beginning of the 8O's.
They sound just like this live. Unbelievable
