See this is an excellent example of the studio listening to feedback, and rather than calling everyone an -ist or -phob because we criticized the music choice of the first trailer, gave the audience what they wanted. Well done. 👏🏻 this was much better.
THIS feels like a Gladiator trailer THIS was the trailer that should have been shown FIRST THIS is the trailer that has now got me excited for the movie and should have more people excited.
The setting is again about as historically accurate as Hollywood gets. In the film universe's timeline of events, Commodus was killed in about 181-182 AD. (IRL he was killed in 193.) 26 or 27 years later, in 198, Caracalla ascended the throne, and he was probably the most tyrannical emperor in Roman history. He was worse than Commodus, whose evil was confined mostly to Rome. Caracalla was another way too young emperor who like Commodus knew he would be emperor since he was nine, and became sole emperor at age 23 when he had his co-emperor Geta murdered along with 20,000 of his followers. He looted the city of Alexandria and massacred the population for making fun of his claim that he killed Geta in self-defence. He probably killed his wife. His largest military campaign failed. He was assassinated at age 29 by a disaffected soldier egged on by a commanding officer when he was taking a leak. I don't know if the film will show Caracalla's death, but it would be generally accurate.
What a year. An Alien movie. A Beetlejuice movie. A Gladiator movie. Hollywood writers IP mining because they don't have an original thought in their heads.
Much better trailer. I am a huge fan of the first, but I am not gatekeeping it; if this is even good, I will be happy. If it's close to the original (a hard task), I will be very happy indeed.
@@adam-i7k That was always going to happen. There is the whole "It's his son", but even if he was not, the studio would still want any actor to do their best Crowe impression because they think people need that.
@@John_pork5 Because Napoleon was such a disappointment. A film about one of the most influential men is history and all it did was focus on his love life, shocking.

@@cachais The opening ceremony of the Colosseum involved a staged naval battle. Say what you want about the other shit, but, "ships in the Colosseum," is historically accurate.
@drakusodrakus304 True. But it's the size of the ships and the number. The Coloseum was big for its time, but not to fit everything you see on screen. Previous Gladiator was more true to proportions. Either way, everything else is so exaggerated that I'm not sure if this movie is worth going to see or wait until it's in streaming platform.

@artiefoxx4360 I'm not saying to not show it. It's the proportions of it all that ends up making it unreal. Again, the previous Gladiator, although Hollywoodesque, is more true to Rome's Coloseum. And I feel that it is what will make it or break it for this new one. You want to make the film somewhat believable.
CGI looks terrible, and the repurposed lines are found wanting - Denzel still looks like he is phoning it in - and why the blank do they keep putting Pedro in everything
If it is, IMO this tarnishes Maximus's legacy. Makes him a two timing asshole. I kind of hope it isn't, but if it isn't? Then his mother is a liar. Doesn't look good either way.
In the first film it was heavily implied that Lucilla and Maximus had a romantic relationship which ended before he married his wife. She also mentioned her son was nearly 8 years old - around the same age as his late son - and Lucius really began to idolise Maximus following the latter's victories in the Colosseum
I’m very disappointed in Gladiator II, it’s simply a remake of the first one with Denzel and Pedro! Why didn’t even try using the original actor of Lucious! I’m not too excited to watch this unfortunately!
Paul Mescal is a lucky guy. He is not good looking, not in good shape and most damning of all, can't act, as this trailer evidences. But critics, producers and directors seem to love him. He is a million miles short of Russell Crowe..
Paul Mescal is probably in better shape than at least 90% of other men The only way you could convince yourself that he isn't in good shape is if you compare him to actors in other Hollywood films who either use steroids, undergo intensive workouts right before filming or dehydrate themselves to an extent where they're putting their health at risk
@@fivestarman5130 I was comparing him with my own fitness level. I don't use steroids or dehydrate myself just train hard and have a good high protein diet and look better than he does. Get down the gym and give it a go..

They should have called it “GLADIATORZ.” My favorite part is when Lucius pulls out the sword of Maximus and screams, “IT’S GLADIATING TIME!!!” 🤣
