I don't see how people can say she's going "flat" in HER OWN SONG. This is how SHE wrote it. Keith changed it up to suit him better. Keith wouldn't have even had this song without her writing it. haters can shove it. she's amazing.
I like to see the contrast between her singing this, and Keith's version. She's coming from a place of anger and frustration, where Keith puts in a feeling of regret and self loathing. Thats the reason why I like this song, both ways.
It's so different being sung by a woman than by a man. I prefer the version where the guy is singing. The reason is when a woman sings it it's just bitching about a man who done her wrong. When a guy sings it he's realizing he is the stupid boy.
When I worked in country radio, I was lucky enough to get a pre-release of this song, and our program director let us run with it. MAN still a all time favorite song of mine.
You can just see the raw emotion as she's singing this. She's telling a story, not only with words, but with her expressions and body language. Makes me wanna find this "stupid boy" and knock his lights out.
I had the pleasure of meeting Sarah this year. She's a sweetheart and a talent. I find I prefer live performances like this to some of the more produced videos. There's always a tendency to impose that "Nashville Sound" and smooth off the rough edges. I love when you hear some of her rawness. (her voice has that great whiskey quality.)
Her voice is raw and sounds real. THAT is what makes this version so much better than any other. That, and the fact that the song is hers. A song tends to lose something when its sung by a random person just trying to hit the billboard charts.
Meggan Meints, Agreed. It sounds so much better to me when a singer uses their voice to make a song real (like in this video) than when they use a song to show off their voice -- no matter how good their voice is. Even a stupid boy could understand it the way she tells it.
@@TristanandIsolt, The first time I heard "Stupid Boy" it was Keith Urban's version and I liked it a lot, but later when I listened to this performance by Sarah Buxton it hit me a lot harder. I don't recall seeing Cassadee Pope's version, but on your recommendation I'll look for it. (Thank you.) Having been that stupid boy myself (hasn't every man been at least once?), it sounded to me like Keith was singing from the perspective of the guy who has realized his mistake. Sarah sings the same lyrics, but with the feelings that seem like they inspired her to write it. I don't know how to measure different performances to conclude that one is better, worse, or as good as another, so I could not say you're right or wrong. In this case, if I had to pick just one to listen to myself it would depend on my mood at the time, but lately I listen to more acoustic stuff than electric. Two exceptions: ruclips.net/video/GzbeirnEebI/видео.html ruclips.net/video/SoIKv3xxuMA/видео.html
This song reminds me of my friend, this boy took everything that she had and left her for no reason. they were even talkin about marriage. I love her so much! Good cover!
This is my favorite Keith Urban song and I just found out this year that Sarah wrote this song, love love her singing it as well. I need to go buy Sarah's CD, love her voice it's so unique to anything out there today and another BIG plus she sounds great live! She's touring with my favorite singer Martina McBride so I like her even more. ;)
her and keith urban honestly need to do a duet, because they both sound amayzing seperate and it waould be even more amayzing together....i saw her live and all her songs are brilliant!
My kids and I watch this video for a good laugh!! It sure does cheer a "broken heart" up!! LOL. I wanta point my finger back at her and sing, "You stupid girrrl"!! I DO love her raspy voice... Very country-ish!!
@kila879 actually Sarah wrote this song with Deanna Bryant and Dave Berg. Then let Keith Urban sing it. To quote Keith: '' I heard it on my bus, and I just sat down and thought, "God, I wish I had a song like this." I thought it was an amazing song. I took it home and played it, and my wife said, "Well, why don't you just do that song?" And I thought, "I can't do this one. This is on Sarah's record. Long story short, Sarah agreed to let me do it. Thank you, Sara. I absolutely love the song.''
your voice and the conviction in it with this song, wow..... acoustic is so hard to do.... and you do it so good with all your songs... can't sing myself but sure can appreciate those that can....
Part of what makes Keith's version of this song great is his guitar solo's. He just makes a guitar sound like itself is singing. But I love her singing this song as well. She's a great writer and the lyrics for this song are awesome.
Nice to hear this song sung as it was written. And I mean that you can hear it in her voice that she experienced this personally. Beautiful Sarah. I pity the person you wrote this song about.
I just saw Sarah perform at the First Note Music Hall in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida last Saturday night! She was amazing. She deserves to be a star in my opinion. Great talent and stage presence. Best of luck to her.
U are my soul sister Sarah!!! LOVE AAAAAAAALL your songs!!! U are way underrated!!! :) Hope you are coming near VA this summer! Saw you on the Bluebird Cafe side stage at WMZQ Fest last year!!!
Completely am smitten, engulfed in her voice and performance. PTSD has stolen my family from me and about every emotion I once had. Music is my true inlet?! She's amazing
@SunburstTeleman They are too totally different artists they both sing them excellent but in there own way. Not to mention they are both brilliant song writers! Sarah did a phenomenal job writing and singing this song.
@daltonabner4 Heres a paragraph from one of Keith interviews: Sarah Buxton wrote "Stupid Boy" with Deanna Bryant and Dave Berg. I heard it on my bus, and I just sat down and thought, "God, I wish I had a song like this." I thought it was an amazing song. I took it home and played it, and my wife said, "Well, why don't you just do that song?" And I thought, "I can't do this one. This is on Sarah's record. M M, "... from the woman who wrote it ... " .. and sings it like she has lived it. It's hard to watch without feeling guilty for having been stupid like that myself once or twice when I was much younger. (I wonder if she ever listened to "Unanswered Prayers" by Garth Brooks to help get over it?)
Gosh reading some of these Comments you all need to relax. Sarah Buxton first and foremost is a song writer. Now Song writers sell there songs to other artists to sing or put on their albums. Keith Urban did not steal this song, She wrote it, published it, and he picked it up, and put it on his album. End of story. He's rich and she received a fee for her Song that Keith put on his album. Yes her song but he used it no wrong doing on either side. It is called free enterprise.
I love the grit in her voice. And.....YES....she is a little flat sometimes. Real music is rarely perfect. Only on records with multiple takes, digital correction, etc., etc. This is a beautiful song.
If Keith stole this song from her do you think she wouldn't have sued him for all he is worth? Do You think he would still be playing it live and what not? Do you think she would have helped him write Put You In A Song? Some people are so stupid.
i like her a lot she got Talent ..But Keith Version is much better ... They both wrote a lot of Songs together and these Songs are all amazing ..a Duet will be just perfect ..
J.Ob3rting, The "wimpy voice" is the sound of the jagged edge of a broken heart that the stupid boy left her with. It fits the song perfectly. More of a feeling thing than a thinking thing.

i hope she made millions from royalties
I met Cassadee Pope last week and she told everyone to search up the songwriters version of stupid boy and holy crap this is amazing!!?
When I worked in country radio, I was lucky enough to get a pre-release of this song, and our program director let us run with it. MAN still a all time favorite song of mine.

This is the best version, it is sung by Sarah Buxton!!
The emotion she puts into this song is incredible! Her voice tells stories

I really like this version with her just singing and him playing guitar. Simple and beautiful.
My aunt went to high school with Sarah Buxton and she is just now being discovered. It really shows that anything is possible.
Her voice is raw and sounds real. THAT is what makes this version so much better than any other. That, and the fact that the song is hers. A song tends to lose something when its sung by a random person just trying to hit the billboard charts.

Found this from her husband tom when she appeared on his channel in first lockdown amazing ✌

I’m not historically a fan of country music. I am now, but this one was one of two that I loved when it released and still to this day.
she has a one of a kind voice
Me too, it gives the song more feeling.
great video, great song, love her voice
Amazing voice
Love her voice and this song.
Excellent performance, I love it.
beautiful!! mad my sister cry!
Wow - what an amazingly cool voice. Love this.
A amazing voice. Thank you.
Sounds like Dolly Parton. Beautiful voice. Beautiful song. One of my favourite Kieth Urban songs, so cheers !!!
andrew dods lol Sarah wrote this so technically it's her song, just covered by Keith. And Cassadee Pope destroyed Keith's versions on the Voice......
+andrew dods She lacks the Texas twang. She can do Bonnie Tyler (It's a Heartache). See also my comment above.
Destroyed in a good way or bad way. Cassadee's version is my favorite, but I love it by Sarah and Keith also.
I did this song and love it..great writing and the raspy voice is great..i hope I did it some justice on my end..

Very good
Love your voice and writing Sarah. You're an amazing talent...💚🎸
She's really good!

You wrote a great song Sarah! Just uploaded an acoustic cover - thanks for the inspiration.
Love this song :D

Most Excellent!!
Thanks Sarah for this song. I still think Cassadee Pope's version from The Voice is the best but it's a beautiful song no matter who sings it!
omg i love song so much
She is impressive. Great acoutically.
Hearing this song from the woman who wrote it is the thing!
M M,
"... from the woman who wrote it ... "

Beautiful song and perfect clean smoky tone 🤤, Sarah.
Great Song
Wow !!!
She looks so pissed when she sings "Such a stupid boy. Oh, you're the same old same old little stupid boy." haha

Sarah can you Please put Reckless on cd? I Love That Song!! You are so talented!
Sounds so much better when its played on a vintage Gibson acoustic.
julia sheer just blew this away with her cover
I love her voice. I don't care for cookie cuter, everyone sounds the same. I like different, and this is not only different, it is beautiful.
I love my dad ❤️ hope he’s looks at this comment
@JillLawrence
I think she wrote it, keith urban sang it first, but he didn't write it
Doesn't her voice remind ya of Dolly Parton. Hughes is a lucky man, she's a keeper.
I love the grit in her voice. And.....YES....she is a little flat sometimes. Real music is rarely perfect. Only on records with multiple takes, digital correction, etc., etc. This is a beautiful song.
Come on Nashville . ..what's up? These guys are not stars and "you know how" is? This is crazy!
wow!!!! what tuning are you using on your guitar?????? love this version
is that her song??? OMG
This is wonderful even if it was written about me.
Stanley Blazeraznik
Nuh Uhhh.
Love that Whiskey quality of her voice...10 times better than Keith Urban !
I like it better from the perspective of a guy realizing he was the "stupid boy".
Love this! So sad that some "boys" make this choice. They always lose what they are trying to imprison.
Best unsigned talent in Nashville . .. what's going on in that town?
@kila879 NO HERS IS THE ORIGINAL!
It is her song she wrote it. Keith Urban was lucky to cut it.
interesting. capo at 4th fret here. hmm. might try it this way. I know she wrote the song....cool.
If Keith stole this song from her do you think she wouldn't have sued him for all he is worth? Do You think he would still be playing it live and what not? Do you think she would have helped him write Put You In A Song? Some people are so stupid.
@rjfcreative he stole it from her
i like her a lot she got Talent ..But Keith Version is much better ... They both wrote a lot of Songs together and these Songs are all amazing ..a Duet will be just perfect ..
WHY do MEN feel the NEED to diminish a woman's only thread to HOLD on to....her self worth??
I don't think I have ever heard anything I did not like that she did.....
I'd really like to hear Lady Gaga sing this. Really.
lol and who are you?
who would want a girl that's like 50 others? I rather have a girl other guys wish they could have. not a girl other guys could have :S
She is more like Kim Carnes or Stevie Nicks but less rasp.
its alright i guess i love Keith urban's voice singing this song "Stupid Boy", no offense to yous.
Sarah Wrote this song not Keith
Keith Urban's version is better. I heard his first then I found this and was expecting something powerful, and was disappointed with the wimpy voice.
This is an acoustic version and to be honest hers is better than Keith's.
J.Ob3rting,
The "wimpy voice" is the sound of the jagged edge of a broken heart that the stupid boy left her with. It fits the song perfectly. More of a feeling thing than a thinking thing.
keith urban is just way too talented...he's pretty much flawless musically so its hard to compete
Why was the mic so dry? She did great but, clearly, you need a new mixer.
