The donation for mufti would be a gold coin which is either $1 or $2 but honestly not that many schools make you pay and if they did it's highly likely it would be optional.
And I had no idea you don't eat from the cabinets in America!! Cabinet food is literally in every cafe haha but generally you wouldn't grab it yourself unless you're in a bakery where it's more common to grab it yourself (barefoot in a bakery grabbing your food is such a normal thing!)

mufti day in our school in NZ was a gold coin donation, which was $1-2 dollars which is probably 50 cents -$1 american, and it was fun because you could wear what you wanted instead of a normal school uniform.
the thing is it was a donation and you didn't have to pay it if your family couldn't afford to. they never sent any student home that couldn't pay.

That is, however, except when the southerlies start. Then I close my window and regret not owning any long pants. There's a reason why you can buy special woolen tops called icebreakers. Yes you can be criminally charged for breaking laws and by laws but you cannot have a member of the public just decide its your fault their bodies, spirit or feelings got hurt and have them sue you. This opens possibilities for the average person to relax and try stuff.

Eggs in the US are cleaned because the chicken poop on them typically contains salmonella, as most US egg farms do not vaccinate their chickens so touching the eggs can make you sick. In NZ and many other countries, egg-laying chickens are vaccinated against salmonella (which US farms don't want to pay for), sometimes even as a legal requirement, which means you won't get sick from touching the eggs and thus they don't need to be cleaned, preserving their natural wax coating that keeps the egg fresh. This is also the reason why Americans are told not to eat raw cookie dough, because raw eggs can be contaminated with salmonella, whereas in New Zealand this is typically not a problem due to the vaccination.

NZ is equidistant from the Equator (4,547.94 km or 2,825.96 miles) and Antarctica (4,868 km or 3,100 miles) hence the temperate climate, warm-hot in summer, warm in the north, freezing in the south (because of the arctic blast, wind chill factor) in winter.

Soon after eggs pop out of the chicken, American producers put them straight to a machine that shampoos them with soap and hot water. The steamy shower leaves the shells squeaky clean. But it also compromises them, by washing away a barely visible sheen that naturally envelops each egg. The egg is a marvel in terms of protecting itself, and one of the protections is this coating, which prevents them from being porous,

Most of the world sell their egg from a store shelf and they remain unrefrigerated when you take them home, only a handful of countries refrigerate their eggs. The washing of eggs removes a protective coating left by the chicken, when the eggs are laid. Therefore they are usually good for about two weeks, on the shelf. Washed eggs are liable to allow bacteria in, so they have to be refrigerated. Christmas crackers, mince pies, fruit cake are all part of a traditional British Christmas, and therefore many commonwealth countries all retain a lot of these customs.

Mufti day is normally a gold coin donation. It’s normally always for fundraising. My kids school do it to raise money for charity or 1 year was to try lower camp fees so families who struggle to pay can get help so all kids get to go. I’ve never personally had an instance of there being issues with kid not paying. Also moneys usually collected in a way that kids don’t know if others haven’t payed. Different cities may be a little different though. In Hamilton alot of our primary schools aren’t in uniform so we have themed days like blue clothes day to raise money and awareness for kids with diabetes or Pj day where we donate a gold coin, teddy bear or even pjs that all gets dropped of to the children’s ward at the hospital ( this is collected by dropping it off outside the office so again kids don’t feel bad if they can’t).
NZ is all about our community. At the school I work at we have a local church who drops lunches of for kids who can’t afford food, a local dairy drops bread off and supplies spreads so we can feed kids breakfast who doesn’t have the luxury of breakfast. We have a retirement village who knits slippers which kids can go help them selves to so that they can keep warm during winter and in turn schools do our part to support our local community programs too not just monetary but working bees (painting away graffiti or going to the retirement home once or twice a year and read to them or put on a play.)
Just like every country we don’t always get it right but as long as love and respect is our focus we are on the right path.
Also worm pee never heard of it 😂

15 mins and you can be badly sunburned here. We're pretty close to Antartica. There is water in the loo, just not as much as the U.S. Mufti isn't always cash, you can bring a can of food instead to donate to the foodbank

Auckland is one of the most diverse cities in the world. South Island is less diverse. So plenty of different cultures here in the most populated areas. Very diverse. The cabinet food isn't accessible to the public. Our health rules are strict. It is just that the food in the cabinet is the food available for the day so the shop server takes the food direct out of the cabinet. What do you mean we have no water in our toilets? lol. Of course we do! What the hell? Who been telling you lies? Never had to pay for mufti day in my school years. Plus, they can't make you make a donation in NZ schools. Even the yearly fees are not enforceable. Mufti is English slang for not wearing a uniform. And, as an agricultural country, we take our fertilizers seriously. You need different mixes for different plant types. Got to specify what sort of fertilizer you are selling.

    Part 2 from a Kiwi:
    11) I don't drink coffee so no comment from me on this one. I've never once bought a coffee.
    12) Again I don't go to camps but I do know while safety is important here in NZ, it's not regulated to the same extent as the USA. Primarily because here in NZ whoever owns the campground or whatever can't be sued just because you fell over and broke your ankle. Whereas that's exactly what someone would try in the US. You do what you deem safe for yourself and your family.
    13) Usually the best stuff from a cafe is in the cabinets. It's also great if you want something to eat but don't have the time to wait in the queue for them to cook it for you.
    14) Yeah hang your clothes on the line if you can. It's better for them. Sure takes a bit more effort but sunlight is far better than heat from a dryer for the health of your clothes. I don't know why she says she's frowned upon for using one though. Most families either have or have access to one. Everyone uses them at some point.
    15) I believe the US washes the eggs because that's what the consumer wants (or what they believe they want). Because the consumer doesn't want to see all the shit and dirt etc. Nice clean eggs. But when they put them through the cleaning process it takes away some of the natural protective coating eggs have, requiring them to be refrigerated and not last as long. In NZ you will often see the dirt and crap on some of your eggs. It's all natural!
    16) Don't know where you heard we don't have water in the toilets. We don't have nearly as much in the US (as in how high it's filled) cause that's a waste of water. The only toilets in NZ you will find without water in them are long drops which are common in rural/hiking areas.
    17) The main reason our outlets have switches is because of the voltage our electricity runs at. In the US I believe it's 110-120V whereas in NZ (and most of the developed world) it's 240V. The switches are to prevent arcing when plugging in/taking out. It is also useful of course to stop waste of electricity to appliances you have turned off instead of unplugging them.
    18) Mufti day is super common with schools. Any school that has uniforms will do it. It is for fundraising for charities and you only need to do a $1 or $2 gold coin donation. So super cheap and gives something to charity and the kids get to wear their own clothes to school for the day. You should know it's not a requirement. There are always exceptions and the kids can just wear the uniform if you don't want to pay. I'd say at least 95% of the students come to school in mufti on those days though so it is hard for the kids that don't get to be cause they're parents didn't support it or wanted to pay that measly $1.
    19) Can't say I know of worm wee. I do know of Caulk though. You should check out those NZ ads. They're hilarious. Search "NZ Caulk ads" Anyway at school we often had "car boot sales". I'm not sure if what she's referring to has something to do with that or not.
    20) Never had eggnog. There are so many similar products though cause it's pretty basic recipe.
    Bonus Christmas:
    1) Yeah they're Christmas crackers. Because they crack when you break them. They always have a paper coloured crown, and a shitty joke you've heard before. The better ones also give you a shitty toy.
    2) The Christmas mince pies aren't meat. It's a fruit mince in sweet pastry that's baked. If you like raisins/prunes you would like it. Very sweet though so will make you sick quick if you eat too many.
    3) The thing with strawberries your thinking of is Pavlova. It's an incredibly airy/light dessert. Its basically whipped up egg whites/sugar that's baked very slowly. Some people don't like them but most Kiwis love it. I know I do. Cover it up in whipped cream it is one of the nicest desserts out there if it's made right. But its sort of like a souffle. You gotta get it right. Or just buy from the store.

So.. our toilets have water just less; the dry ones are festivals camping etc . Our eggs are fresh daily.... that's why they don't need a fridge yet; to fresh for fridge...I turn off all plugs if not using it... saves power and safer for electrical fires. Only my fridge /alarm/ hot water cylinder are on when out... mufti clothes is usually for fundraising for the school or charity..I pay $2 a week for mufti for charity in community..they let it slide but it's in good faith.... we also call plan clothes cops "mufti cops" haha

The difference in toilet water between us and the US is because when we flush the toilet a whole lot of water pushes down from a tank above. In the US its the suction of the huge amount of water that is supposed to do the work. Ours works better and very rarely would you get a blocked toilet here. Kids shoving things down the toilet yes that happens but otherwise its pretty clean.

Then you got the old people up north on the tauranga area they basically get no wind just nice and then down south is where you get lots of snow it's real weird
