M Shadows talks to Stryker about new music, a new album, and a potential tour, as well as the mindset of the band.
I’ve missed hearing this guy talk. I’ve missed hearing him sing and scream more, but these guys have been in my top three since high school. I’m excited for when the album eventually does come out. As much as it sucks waiting, it’s understandable. All the reasons he listed are 💯 valid.

Take all the time you need! I'd be a liar if I denied wanting to hear the new record as soon as possible, but I understand the delay and only wish the best for the band! I really hope that I'll finally be able to attend a A7X concert the next time you go on tour in Europe. I wish y'all the best and love you all and the music you create!

The stage released when I was a senior. Time flies and I’m ready for the new stuff. Still listen to the stage though because man that album is god tier for me and the chorus of paradigm plays in head from time to time.

The Stage was awesome even though personally it's not my favorite I'd say Nightmare and City of Evil are tied as my favorite, but I'm definitely ready for more.

I understand why they don't want to release the record yet and I respect them all, I want that to be clear, but it would be nice to have a single after so long. Throw us who've supported a bone, so to say 😂 Spark some hype
The later show Zacky just looked like he hated life on stage. You could see the tension between the members in the band. The usual crowd interaction was gone. They were looking into the crowd with an almost disgusted look. Take the break, but if you don't fix the problems in the band they will be back within the first week of a tour. People gave Metallica shit for going to therapy, but it saved them. Anyone that has been in a band for any length of time, big or small, knows it's like a second family. They take work to maintain.
you are 100%on the band dynamics part, but I saw that show too and to me, they looked fried, not pissed at eachother. Shadows voice is like gravel and the band looks and sounded burnt out. Hopefully his voice is ok, from what I heard it was pretty serious. And I always would tell people "being in a band is like having 3-4 wives/girlfriends and asking where do you wanna go eat and what movie to catch later?" sometimes its easy and in sync; most times its a fucking headache lol

@@yokisullivan8647 you would be wrong in your assumption about my assumptions. Time in the studio is different than time on the road. Bands that can't stand each other can still manage to record an album, just look throughout history. They never survive the road though. You could see it in their performances, paired with a huge break. It's obvious.
This is why A7X are my favourite band, well thought out music as well as making sure that everyone is ok and that everything is up to a group standard , and with the touring and that makes perfect sense to me I'm happy to wait another 3 years if that what it takes cause either way I still get my A7X fix
I for one am just happy that they are doing well and moving forward at their own pace with the goal of giving us their best when the time comes! I have been waiting to see them since Nightmare and its just awesome to know that someday I will be able to!
He makes so much sense. They wanna do it when they want to do it, and do it right so it makes sense financially and mentally for them. They’re one of the last great new (I say new, but they’ve been around over 20 years) bands, and they shouldn’t have to compromise anything less than putting out the best album that they can. I think the Stage is the best thing they’ve ever done, and I can’t wait to hear what they’ve done next
If a new album comes out and then they start touring I’m gonna be so hype. I can’t wait for the new album

Wow...a lot of honesty from Matt...what I take from this is that there probably won't be new music released or a new tour for a long time, maybe even into 2023....and that makes me sad.
i'm pretty sure the album will come out this year. I saw this interview several months ago, it's not recent.

They have promised to release it before summer 2022. They are touring this summer
Good news for you. This interview is like 6 months old. When they first did their NFT thing. And the band decided to record the strings in Prague. And they already went there and recorded them. So as long as those final vocals are laid down and they are all on board with touring (they are playing a bunch of the big European summer festivals already), I think everything will come sooner than you think.

@@lucium4034 el problema es que metieron la excusa de que en el mundo no se habían levantado las medidas y ya muchas bandas han sacado albums y han comenzado giras, ahí tienes el ejemplo de muchas bandas que han llenado por todos lados como Coldplay hace apenas unos pocos días, ya el mundo está listo para ir de nuevo a conciertos, cuál es el pretexto? Va pasar una década y tanto para el mundo y ellos pasará una década, al rato cuál será el pretexto? Se siguen esperando y habrá conflictos y otras pandemias ¿? Y aún así muchas bandas siguen sacando discos llendo de giras, si ellos dicen que van a sacar albums cuando quieran porque hacen música para ellos y para nadie más entonces que ya mejor no saquen nada, porque es lo que sucede tal vez ya les aburre hacer música y seguir con la banda.
Pierden seguidores, ésta era mi banda favorita, hoy es The Warning, las bandas mueren y nuevas y mejores nacen 😎

Album should be out by summer I heard, before the tour because this interview is from 2021, I saw this interview a long time ago. Also if it takes longer I don’t mind waiting tbh. I heard it pretty much just needed to be mixed and the strings are actually already recorded.
Must suck as a band to have a album ready for 2 years and not be able to tour because of COVID.

There are some damn good bands releasing new music and touring.
Homelife & headspace are the most important things to have straight, so I can get behind that.
The rest sounds like smoke…almost sounds like you’re eating your soup with a spoon.
A few years ago, I met Matt’s mom at a movie theater in Huntington…I was wearing a Papa Roach t-shirt, and she came up behind me and said she loves them, and they were such good friends.
Those guys just became their own record label, put out an amazing new album, and are killing it on tour with Hollywood Undead.
Be cool if they did a metal album like city of evil or metalcore like bag in the day
Unfortunately years of screaming etc. take their toll on singers voices and he's no exception. I doubt they'll ever record any heavier stuff again as it wouldn't be able to be performed consistently live without risking more damage.
Can't wait to listen to that new record. Man, A7X is one of my favorite bands.

There's still loads of time to release...times have changed and I think he music biz has changed as well...I always considered the next album will be heavily punk influenced, like going back to a source of their roots but I think it's gonna be very fresh...

I love this band and I’ll just be happy when the album comes out, whenever that may be. You can’t rush perfection. Although I would REEEEALLY appreciate at least a single. Just something to get hyped for the album 🤷🏼♂️

The Stage to me is the best Avenged Sevenfold album, been listening to that ever since I was a freshman in high school. Six years later, graduated, went to trade school. Hoping the next album can absolutely knock The Stage out of the water. Love this band
Damn that brings me back. My high school album was their self titled one. They will always be my favorite band even as my musical taste changes over time. Some things just never get old.
The Stage is what made me leave them. I know they can do any sound they want but I hated this one.

@@bestbrainbigman it has a lot to do with shadows voice too. He lost that power from the mid 2000’s. He’s starting to sound like an old rocker now. I know he’s went through some surgeries but he sounds 80 years old. I’ll give it a listen when it does come out though.
Yeah, I loved the Stage too. I’m really surprised it didn’t go over so well with a lot of fans. To me, it’s complexity is what keeps me coming back and finding so many new little things that I didn’t hear before. I’m really excited to hear what they’ve done next
I don't think I've seen a single interview with Avenged in the last 4 years that didn't have to plug their NFT's. Even in a 3 minute clip about the music it gets a lil plug, they're making too much money off NFT's to even need to tour lol.

No question. May not be their most "commercially successful" album but was BY FAR their most advanced and mature material they have ever written. They are fantastic musicians, all of them. I love City of Evil, but The Stage convinced some of my heavier/progressive metal friends to give them another look, and that's awesome to me!
It’s all about the money at this point obviously lol. I get logistics but just say “we’re not going to make a lot so we’re not going to” “we’re happy with the NFTs(money)” the mr krabs of “metal”
Sadly yes. They made so much money on the nfts they realised they dont have to bend over backwards for fans touring in odd conditions. Their absence has gotten me into so many newer bands though that are grinding super hard during these times, not sure i'l even remember to look for the new A7x album when its eventually released.

Been a fan since ‘99. Disappointed does not even come close to describing my thoughts on this portion of the interview.
COVID doesn’t mean the end of a tour. So many bands got hit with it and all they did was either have a member replaced or if it’s the vocalist, they take the time off and come back, which is like a week. The whole tour doesn’t need to be called off.
Except for if the replace a vocalist or a player it wouldn't be a7x... it'd be some of a7x and whoever was helping......... I'm glad they are waiting it just shows how much they want to make the shows right.. you outta be happy to hear this
@@mynt4153 it bands like korn and jinjer can replace their drummer and guitarists for a week or 2, A7X would be perfectly fine. Like I said, the only time it has to stop is if it’s the vocalist.

Idk, it all sounds like solid BS to me... I mean, Gojira is a "smaller" band and had no problem at all releasing an album right in the middle of the pandemic and now they are touring and seem to be doing just fine, but since all the NFT kr4p this band's been really focusing on money lately
I totally agree with this! There been a bunch of bands with new music since last summer and even a few tours that haven’t been shut down. It just seems like the want to isn’t there anymore for A7x
@@Sandhills_Coyote Look at this way. With the size of a band like A7X you have tens of millions of people there's much bigger risk for a band like them which also means much more money. Gorjira can play the Masqarade in Georgia, Avenged Sevenfold can't do that anymore. They can't play smaller shows like they used to. Sure could they release an album in the middle of a pandemic? Yeah sure but to not be able to go on tour afterwards? What's the point?

Psych! Gotchya.
My fear is that they may have missed the deadline to start touring this Summer. Covid restrictions have eased quite a bit and a nationwide tour seems feasible but I’m worried they waited too long to reserve tour dates, venues, and the whole album release process. I mean it’s almost May and there’s not even mention of anything at all music wise 😳. I could see all the NFT stuff working straight into the new record so I hope that’s the case and that we’ll see new music soon. Either way, it’s their music and they’ll release it when they’re ready. I totally understand that and will support whatever they’re doing.
There's no better explanation than this. The dudes are waiting for the best time to put their songs out, and even though we're all crazy to hear this record, we all know Matt's right; if they release it when they don't want to, it's gonna be bad for them for us, for their crew, for everyone. So let's be patient deathbats, it's gonna be worth it!

It was such a defining part of my childhood and DJ Stryker and the amazing soundtrack were such a huge part of the character of that game and what made it so unique and nostalgic to this day. Thanks so much man, thank you for all the happy memories you brought me and my brother.

Even though they're millionaires they can't take money out of their personal accounts to tour just to watch it fail because nobody's coming because they're afraid they're going to get sick🙄, and if they spend the company's money on a failed tour and there won't be a return on their money they spent. Totally understand being mentally prepared for a tour, but a lot of bands are releasing music and are doing festivals and tours. Covid isn’t going away… ever. Yes, take care of yourself when you’re sick and make sure you don’t get sick. But It’s the new normal, so to always use that excuse is disappointing. If they wanted to, they WOULD.
